  1. I bought an Epiphone EB3 in Cherry Red 2 months ago brand new from PMT Birmingham for £220.00 and am looking at moving it on. Its in immaculate condition and I've only taken it to two rehearsals. Although its a lovely bass to play its not really suiting the music my band is playing (Mod, New Wave) so I am looking to sell for £120 or trade for a Squire Jazz. Ideally looking for something a bit retro looking ie metal plate pick up covers, ashtrays etc, but all things considered, or would also trade for a fairly decent amp head around 400W (HA4000 maybe???) I live in Midlands but am a sales rep so happy to arrange to meet somewhere for sale or trade Cheers
  2. If I'm asked first then yes.........If its assumed then no!
  3. Yes I'm there too. Played in bands for years but now in a mod/new wave covers band and its first time I've played with serious musicians. I think it helps that we are only a 3 piece so less conflict and we all love playing. Can't help feeling its also because we are all past 40 and rock star egos have long since disappeared.
  4. Cheers guys. Just looked on their web site and you can select a none padded 'dust cover' and works out at £25 each. still a bit pricey but better. May try and do the cardboard and gaffa tape type myself as I can claim both those back on my works expenses!!!
  5. Hi Does anyone know where you can buy cheap none padded covers for cabs. Over the years I've bought the padded versions for my guitar and bass combos and whilst they are excellent, they are expensive. When I've spent a few hundred quid on an amp I can justify £40 odd quid for a cover. However as my circumstances have changed I've been buying some SH gear since getting back into playing again. I have picked up a couple of lovely Hartke 410TP and did not pay much for them, but they are in great nick with no damage to carpet at all. I want to keep them that way but can only find padded covers on the web. Is there nowhere that does more of a thin sleeve type cover that can be folded away when not in use, but when on the cab it protects the surface. Thanks in advance
  6. I've sang at plenty of 40th Birthday parties in the last few years and always do a disco at the end. For that age group you cant go wrong with some Ibiza anthems. Born Slippy, Sandstorm, Insomnia etc. There are millions of ibiza comlialtions out there and another good compilation CD or Mp3 is 'Old school disco'. I have sometime just played that start to finish and it works a treat. Also anything by the black eyed peas, with 'Time of my life (dirty Bit) being a particular floor filler
  7. Ive never thought of doing that......but may try it now. I've just bought a Hartke HA3000 (off here) and paired it up with a Hartke 410 8 ohm cab so I'm not getting the full amp potential yet. I was going to start looking for a 115 cab but after reading this post its made me think I have 2 Yamaha 300W 8 ohm PA speakers I use for my club singing, so I suppose I could use one of those added to my Hartke set up

  9. I posted on another basschat forum the other day about my Crate 220W combo buzzing at high volumes as I thought I was maybe asking too much of it (although levels were only up to half way). Luckily I found a local amp repairer who agreed to look at it for me. After various tests he concluded the amp and speaker were fine but the buzz was coming from the cabinet where the horizontal piece of wood between the amp and the speaker was not glued sufficiently enough to the sides. Apparently very common with Chinese cabs. He showed me whilst I played through it that if you turn it on its side it improves as the weight is pressing down on the loose joint. This amp has a built in tuner on the top of the cab and apparently this makes it very difficult to take apart and fix from inside. My question is it worth maybe screwing a few screws in from the side into the cross piece of wood to try and eliminate the buzz or would I be better off just selling it and taking the hit. I would have to sell it as damaged as I am not the type of person to pass on unknown problems. I didn't pay too much for it but I can't use it as it is. Any advice would be welcom

  12. I had two of the LEDJ version in my singing days. They are ok but not as bright as you may expect. They act better as a wash, ie lighting up walls or equipment rather than used as spotlights. I think you may need 4 of them to get the brightness you need.
  13. After only two proper rehearsals he wants to think about recording???? That's way too early. Its pointless recording till the songs are 100% otherwise they will not sound like you want them to and you will regret it
  14. Congratulations!!! Enjoy every minute as they grow up so fast......

    SOLD

Would really like this and I am in wolvo too!!! Just got to try and raise the cash
  16. You also have to remember that we, as bass players listen out for them more. Memorable bass lines to me don't necessarily jump out of the song as being the main riff. So a memorable bass line to a bass player is a lot wider than to anyone else. Its surprising how a lot of the 'joe public' do'nt know what the difference is between guitars and basses. When I have told people I play bass in band, it surprises me how many people ask me to play something they'd recognise and I have to show them 'Town called Malice'.Even then they say they didn't know that was the bass.
  17. Thanks for the replies. I will have a play around with it tonight and try and borrow a cab from somewhere to see if that helps. Really will have to try and get some cash together to buy another rig as I would prefer a separate amp and a 4 x 10 cab
  18. As much as I would like a new bass amp, finances allude me at the moment and I am currently using a Crate 220W combo (1 x 15). At low volume in the house it sounds fine, but I have recently started taking it to rehearsals rather than use the in house bass amp so I can play with the sound as I need to use it for a few up and coming gigs. With the gain at around half way and the master volume at the same, with a flat EQ, I am getting distortion. We do not rehearse particularly loud (Drums, Bass, Guitar and 2 vocals), but if I play any quieter I am struggling to be heard. I have checked for any loose connections or screw fittings and everything seems fine and the speaker looks intact. There is an overdrive channel but I don't use it I don't have anyone that can look at it FOC so I may have to pay a local shop to take it apart to see if there are any issues, but don't really want the expense if I can help it I play an epi thunderbird active through it, and select the active input switch. If I then play my passive EB3 though it and select passive input then its a bit better but still distorting. There is an output for another speaker but this is a series output so if I connect another speaker I am not going to achieve any more power, but do you think connecting another speaker may help to reduce the distortion in as much that the amp power is being spread into two speakers/cabs. (if that makes sense) Would appreciate some help as I cannot decide whether I am asking too much of the amp or it may need looking at or an extra cab
  19. Have a look at the Yamaha stagepas 600i. A nice compact system of powered mixer and 2 passive speakers for £600. We use it for rehearsals and small gigs as a vocal PA, with me and guitarist going through amps and then for bigger gigs we hire a PA and use stagepas as a monitor set up.
  20. In our 3 piece band me and the guitarist share vocals, so I sing the songs where the bass is either easy, or just has nice fills in between lines. We do a wide range of stuff but current songs I sing and play bass to are - You do something to me - Paul Weller Up the Junction - squeeze Ever fallen in love with someone - Buzzcocks That's entertainment - the Jam If you want to up the tempo a bit more, other ones that go down well that I sing whilst playing bass are, Should I stay or should I go - The Clash She sells sanctuary - The Cult So Lonely - The Police Are you gonna be my girl - Jet
  21. Every drummer is different and its not always his ability that will determine his commitment. He may be a very good drummer looking for a band that is not working as much as hes used to or he may be a less talented drummer wanting to learn from a more experienced band. Best thing is to advertise and be clear in your advert what level you are at. Most of the time it is your enthusiasm that people are attracted to I am hopeless at learning original bass lines by ear but youtube is full of people showing you how to play the bass lines to virtually every song. I don't think I ever not been able to find one. Just type in the name of the song followed by bass cover. They are not always 100% accurate but most are pretty close
  22. Thanks for the reply but its a bit too short. Over to tony_m Thanks
  23. Hi Beedster Can you let me know internal dimensions. I am looking for hard cases for my Epi T'bird and also my Epi EB3. I doubt my T'bird will fit in but may be able to get my EB3 in there. Cheers
