2. This has been doing the rounds on FB.Seems there are around 70 singers/bands depicted in this pic.Have a go.
3. Paul McCartney: "Teach me to sing songs of love instead of 'Burn Baby Burn' (a la Disco Inferno) off Pipes of Peace.
4.
Here we go with basswoman Megan Davies ... wouldn't embed so here's the link ... https://www.youtube....h?v=_yRxDKAYwlM
Ah y'see? Basswoman does NOT work. She is a bass player.Or maybe bassgirl,or basslassie,........
5. I refer to myself as a 'Bass Player'.I refer to my instrument as a 'Bass'.When referring to other players, the term 'Bassman' is usually used where appropriate (Think Talking Heads or Applejacks).I think 'Bassist' is a bit too highbrow for the likes of me.
6. I often play my '64 Precision in church, which is nicely beaten up and aged with lots of paint missing etc. I'm sorry but I first read that as it being your church that was badly beaten up and had lots of paint missing.I'm so sorry, really.nice bass though.
7.
If you're serious about a cover band then no song should be "off limits" unless it gets no reaction or worse still a negative reaction from an audience or your band can't do it justice. The bottom line is that you're there to satisfy the audience first. As there are thousands of hit songs from the last 60 years there should be a lot of numbers where the audience and you can agree. I don't like playing Tainted Love but it's a very popular number and a floor filler and sing along for every audience we've played it to. Cover bands shouldn't ignore a reaction like that.
I totally agree.I can't believe that anybody would refuse to cover a song just because they 'dont like it'.You're there to please a crowd, not yourself. That anyone would consider knocking back the chance of playing with a live band just because they dont like 2 of the songs on a setlist is beyond belief.
8. Jimmy Johnson, whose work with James Taylor I've always admired.I also believe that either him or his father had a hand in developing the first 5-string bass with Alembic.
9. We Gotta Get Outta This Place - The Animals.(Chas Chandler)
10. Do you Really Want To Hurt me by Culture Club.
11. Done.I dont ever get nervous before a gig,no matter the size of a venue.Never have except from my very early days.(I'm 63 now). But dont ask me to perform in front of family gatherings, parties etc.For some reason it scares the hell out of me and has led to some rows in the past when somebody has thrust a guitar in my sweaty hands and commanded 'Give us a song. You play in a band dont'ya!',and I've refused point blank.I'm completely overcome with nerves.Dont know why.
12.
Did you know that the piano on Hey Jude and Bo Rap is the same one??
Also 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' if I'm not mistaken.
13. Really nice Rickenbacker sound on this track by Renaissance.
14. Its gen up OK.I use one at the minute and had a previous one a few years back. They're OK basses as it goes although the neck is very wide, and the earlier ones had problems with poor outer string response (B+G) due to the use of 4 -pole pickups. The J-pups are strange, granted, for a so-called P-Bass.
15. Nearly every cover that James Taylor has done. eg Up on the Roof,Handyman and even Hound Dog.But NOT Day Tripper off the 'Flag' album.Love the man.
16. Again from John Prine; She was a level headed dancer,on the road to alcohol, And I was just a soldier on the way to Montreal. Spanish Pipedream.
17. Was that old Rick Stein in the front row.Didn't know he was into George Ivan.
18. Sister Josephine by Jake Thackary,or 'Fares for 50p' by Fascinating Aida.
19. http://www.aliexpres...2398566143.html Have a look at this one. They get away with calling it a war-Rick.Blatant.
20. https://www.youtube....h?v=TTtswoWkGQU Watch this.Says it all really.Especially the bass bit.Sorry its not in English but then it doesn't have to be!
21. Same here.Teenage Kicks always gets a crowd going. We're a bit biased tho, being from Norn Iron.
22. TE Boxer 15 at home.I've even used it at a couple of 'acoustic' pub sessions with my acoustic/electric bass.Plenty loud.
23. If there's one thing I hate its a pub with too many TVs.Especially when they're left switched on while the band are playing.Thanx to a much publicised boxing match between N.Irish boxer Carl Frampton and Mexican Alejandro Gonzalez all the pubs TVs were on when we loaded in and were left on right through the gig.OK Frampton won but the crowd seemed to be there for the fight and not much else.As the pub was packed to the gunnels,we then had to load out through said mob into pouring rain.Down with this sort of thing!
24. He's an ornery old cuss when he gets annoyed though.Did he end up clobbering the interviewer at the end.Did I get that right?
