1. I had an 80s tokai flying V that has a sausage-shaped ridged rubber thingy in that position. It didn't work - the guitar was still akmost unplayable when sitting down.
2. I had a foster x-15 & Yamaha cx5m music computer then fostex 160 & Atari STE running cubase I remember recording rehearsals / gigs by setting up a stereo casstte deck, the fostex160 or my Sony dat recorder, a mixer or pair of mic preamps and a pair of realistic PZMs mics from tandy converted to give a balanced output. I currently use a zoom h1, which is much less hassle & probably one of my favourite things I have ever owned.
3. I use Beyer DT-150s. Stuff I mix on them & then listen to on other systems always comes out well - perhaps because I'm so used to them. More importantly they are ridiculously comfy and don't make my ears glow bright red after a few hours of use.
4. I would wager that it was programmed by boffins on a synclavier. It has that sound and a step-time feel (or rather lack of feel) that is compensated for by a massive punchy sound.
5. Sounds like the 'muslamic rayguns' bloke has decided to cash in on his youtube fame & form a band
6.
Discuss please.
7. Get a piece of wood, a saw and some sandpaper. Use the saw & sandpaper to remove any bits of wood that don't look like a bass.
8. It would be a lot less fugly with the pots rear-mounted & no pickguard
9. With flatwounds & palm muting I can do anything with the left hand as long as the right hand is in time - Shhhh don't tell my band though.
10. I wouldn't say I have particularly good ears, but the second track has some dynamics that allow it to breathe and the first track seems to be pretty much at the same level all the way through. However its not as badly squashed as a really horrible sounding Rush CD I once borrowed from a previous band's drummer. Probably mastered with the goal of making it louder. Silly to ruin music like this.
11. Surely the law of cool is that once something has been described as cool, It ceases to be cool. I would never describe my beautiful 12" picture disc of the Residents eskimo LP as cool as the eyeballed ones transcend all that nonsense.
12. If you've ever thought about possible improvements in bass/guitar/amp/accessory packaging or cases Fender are looking for ideas with a $2500 minimum advance for any they develop. Fender is searching for innovative cases and packaging to protect and transport its iconic guitars and basses: http://www.edisonnation.com/live_product_searches/FEN713402
13. I remember seeing these when they first came out. I assumed they were gibson's attempt to cash in on the popularity of the steinberger bass and getting it all very wrong.
14. get a squier and spend the rest on hookers
15.
CONUS - as the Yanks are fond of calling it - will keep RIC afloat.
Rics float on sea snails? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conus Would the warranty even cover that?
16.
In case you decide to go for the Thomastik Jazz Flats, beware that they are very low tension. This is not to everyone's liking. It is the main reason why a lot of people dont like them. Great strings though.
That's exactly the reason I love 'em
17. I record all all the bands rehearsals & the few live performances we've done using my trusty Zoom H1 recorder. I've been editing the recordings down to individual tracks using Adobe Soundbooth CS4 (OSX 10.6) and use the fx that come with soundbooth to master them. The fx are a bit non-intuitive to use and soundbooth crashes even more than most other adobe software. Since adobe are no longer selling updated versions of soundbooth, I'm looking at trying something more stable and better for mastering. Any suggestions? I've had an email from steinberg about the new version of wavelab, but the pricetag puts me off. Are there any less expensive or freeebie apps worth considering?
18. The benefit of a screw-on (or much rarer bolt-on) I like most is that it can be shimmed to change the pitch when the bridge saddle height is as low as it can go.

21. If you want your business to look cheap & nasty, get the cheapest cards possible I wouldnt touch vistaprint as I've seen too many of their cards at business link events - they were thin and badly printed & finished. I use moo & solopress. They use thick card stock, and always cut the cards crisply with a right angle at each corner. For small runs moo is less expensive than solopress. PM me if you'd like a code for 10% off your first order.
22. When people say things like these it tells you a lot about them and nothing about the target of their words
