2. At least it wasn't done to diddle you out of possible Royalties; see Bob Daisley & Lee Kerslake's removal from the reissue of Ozzy's blizzard of oz for a very sorry tale.
3. If you felt your playing wasn't up to standard on the day why didn't you insist on a redo?
4. Following on from the thread discussing Guy Pratt's sliding pickup Warwick sig bass, would it be interesting to have a about a fantasty signature bass thread? What I'm suggesting is as follows: Imagine you have been approached by a bass manufacturer you admire & they want to make a bass to be sold as your signature model. you will be expected to be seen using it and will get a royalty for use of your name & for promoting it. Which manufacturer would be ideal for you and what would the bass be like? Apart from people posting their basses (descriptions and/or photoshopped mockups) it might be interesting for people to comment on the basses (as they have on Guy Pratt's) To get the ball rolling here's mine The Junkyard Rocket Fender Jaguar Bass It will be based on my Squier Vintage Modified Short Scale Jaguar Bass, but with a few tweaks & upgrades Lightweight Swamp Ash Body Candy Apple red finish Rocket logo on neckplate Fender Hi Mass bridge with thru-body stringing Thomastick TI JF324 Flatwounds (should fit with thru-stringing) Volume, pickup Balance & passive tone pots (CTS) with US jazz bass knobs Switchcraft jack black/white/black 3-ply pickguard rear pickup: Kent Armstrong Jazz Bass Lipstick Bridge pickup (overwound to balance with humbucker) Front Pickup: Fender telebass humbucker Extra electronics on top plate - limiter & valve-sounding distortion Neck: quartersawn maple with rosewood fingerboard - rolled edge hipshot ultralite tuners with oval buttons black headstock with silver 70s style logo Truss rod adjustment at headstock end jumbo frets, pearl blocks, no binding Red Grolsch rubber seals supplied to use as straplocks
5. It is because guitarists tend to stand at the front at the stage, but bass players tend to prefer to hang around towards the back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vh5kZ4uIUC0
6. I've seen cheapo luggage scales in Poundland. I don't now how much they cost though.
7. I have a blueburst 90s one - it looks just like 12stringbassists one. A few things I've discovered about it over the years: It fits in any case or bag that a telecaster fits in La Bella make a 30" scale set of flatwounds specifically for the dano with smaller ball-ends to fit the bridge Its a lot of fun to play
8. I liked the sound of the tesco one best so thought that was the strad. In fact I managed to get them all wrong. Then again I usually prefer to play my squier bass which was £165 new when I could be playing one of my much more expensive ones.
9.
This. Dr Goodfeel; what a great name.
I agree & the UK domain is available http://www.nominet.org.uk/whois/lookup?query=drgoodfeel.co.uk
10. Guy seems pleased with it. The object of the exercise is probably more about putting a bass that will be used in the hands of a high-profile endorsee, showing that the custom shop can deal with off the wall ideas, and getting talked rather about than shifting vast numbers of this particular bass.
11. It struck me today that with my current band I consider it very important for any recordings to capture our live sound ie as we have one guitarist no 2nd guitar part overdubbed. I like quite a hairy bass sound and tend to stick to simple riffs so I'm probably filling the role of a rhythm guitarist with my bass as much as providing the bottom end. I'd be happy for all of our recordings to just be recordings of gigs & release them warts & all, but I guess at some point the lads are going to want to book a recording session in a studio. With my last band, which had two guitarists, when we recorded our third album we a lot of added overdubs & additional instrumentation (more guitars/organ/banjo/tambourine) so we couldn't reproduce the recorded versions of the songs live with the lineup we had, and doing those songs often seemed like a bit of a compromise compared to the richer instrumentation of the recordings. I'm seeing the current band as a gigging band that occasionally makes recordings rather than a recording band that does gigs. Is it important is it to you to be able to either 1. reproduce your recordings live or 2. Capture the sound of your gigs in a studio recording
12. It looks like Letterman is a drumwatcher.
13. Definitely check out as much Johnny Cash as possible & the Felice Brothers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcVku6bFe-U http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLrBd81ONOw
14. Looks like a generic cheapo far-east copy to me. Looks like the bass can be bought for £123.25 new from an amazon seller http://www.amazon.co.uk/Stellah-SJB-800-Jazz-Guitar-Natural/dp/B0080S11I4
15. I doubt the car insurance would cover it, but it might be worth a try
16. I've had the same set of TI-JF324 on my mustang since I bought it at least 5 years ago with no ill effects due to the thru-body bridge.
17. Thomastic JFs flats are only available in one gauge, so that's the gauge I use on my 5 string.
18. Get the singer to use a vocal capo instead? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mjWZhLWlwo
19. My last band did an acoustic gig where the consensus was that we should sit to play. We used chairs from the bar & in the pics we look like a performing dentists waiting room.
20.
Still more expensive than a Behringer BDI-21 though...
It does a different job to a BDI-21. I have one of those already. I've found that the IK ampeg software running in stand-alone mode is perfect for headphone practice playing along with tracks on itunes. It seems to be much more flexible in terms of the sounds available than the equivalent amplitube ampeg amps on the iPad with iRig & with much better latency. I'm using a 2008 macbook (the first unibody aluminum one) with Guitar Rig IO USB audio hardware & have cubase (studio 4). I've not tried it with cubase yet, but it will be interesting to set it up so I can track the bass dry with no processing & then add the amp being able to tweak the settings whilst mixing.
21. When I want to be bothered with making the effort to look neat & tidy I'll join a function band.
22. a heads-up: IKmultimedia's Ampeg SVX amplitube is on a 60% off discount deal at the moment http://www.ikmultime...summerstrummer2 http://www.ikmultime...ducts/ampegsvx/ edit: I just bought it. Worked out at £34.12 all-in paying by paypal including the £££ => €€€ conversion
23. Unless you're putting on another set of exactly the same type/gauge of strings that are on there already, doing any setup prior to the string change could be a waste of time as you might have to start from scratch once the new ones are on. I don't follow what the problem is. The saddles are each adjustable for height individually aren't they?

25. Sam, sorry that my weak attempt at humour went over your head
