Alright guys - I've just picked up the bass from Steve at Chapel guitars. The neck has been finished with Osmo Polyx which looks and feels great, so we'll see how it holds up. The loom is installed and working nicely with the now straightened pickups. I was sent two bezels by Gig.ink so I actually found stacking them game a lovely 'ramp' feel around the neck pickup, so that's what they're doing at the moment. I've only used tape so I'll see how I get on over the coming weeks. I've set up the bridge to my liking - despite being 'better' than the stock one I can't get the intonation quite spot on, but it'll do. Certainly, height adjustment is easier. Just a few snaps for now - I'll get some better ones to show off the neck. It's nice to be using the original neck with the fishtail tuners, which work fine and seem OK with the full scale strings which have been bedded in around the posts and bridge. Really pleased with it!! Bonus picture of my parent's new puppy, Lois. She's the gentlest little dog I've ever met. So quiet and just absolutely delightful (the previous two were absolute shits at this age!)

Also not a Dingwall fan, but I like the innovations here. The flip thing for hanging is pretty neat, and when you consider how guitars are displayed in the majority of shops, it's probably going to help them stand out.

I don’t think an amp changes my sound as much as a venue does. So I take a small powerful combo for monitoring and that’s that. My amp is basically flat and the rest is up to the sound guy. I have one sound for everything, it’s just my bass but louder. For heavy stuff I dig in and use some bridge pickup, lighter relaxed soul pop I palm mute and pluck with mostly neck pickup. That’s it really.

I guess the G&L basses, despite being part of Leo's legacy, are not as distinctive as a P, J or MM. Each of those, you can easily identify in a mix. G&L either do the same sorts of things or something else which sounds like a more modern bass, but not one that can be characterised so easily. Maybe that leads to a sense that they aren't as 'landmark' as the previous designs, regardless of the incremental developments like the locking bridge, MFD pickups etc.

Ah nice, yeah I did the same, once, then didn't really bother gain as the latency was too off-putting.

@Rosie C are you looking at actually using MIDI or using the GR55?

Yeah I guess it's a useful shorthand but I don't think many players using the GK system use it for MIDI. I tried it once and gave up because the VB99/GR55 have such great effects and options anyway.

The GK3b isn't a MIDI pickup - only if you use a GR55 or VB99 etc to do pitch to MIDI conversion, with associated lag. Using the native Roland gear, there's no conversion happening so it's almost entirely lag free and just like a magnetic pickup.

I use one at our practice room. We’re a 7 piece band and we practice with electric drums, guitars and keys into a PA. One of the guitarists uses an amp and the other has an active PA wedge. The volume is fairly controlled so the PF50 does very well. It has the matching 2x10 cab. I think I run it at about half volume with the gain also halfway up.

Yeah we get that a lot around here. Very long road with bits that are 50/60/40 and most people just do the whole thing at 47ish (including the 40)
