I must admit, when getting really 'into it' in the metal band the strings could sometimes feel a bit flimsy, but this helped me hone my right hand sensitivity even more, I think. I wouldn't change back, now.

Yeah maybe. I'll ask them if they have any plans for them. They seem harder to find these days. I hope they don't stop doing the super lights in Nickel, or I'm screwed!

As I say, this is the basic plugin and we can adapt it as we go, but first let's see how it goes. I think it's going to work really nicely. I do agree with comments like Rick's post above - remember I use this place as a bassist too (I just happen to co own it) so your concerns are the same as mine. However I think people will still get by with the Q+A bit or by PMing the seller and forging a bond that way, It might mean some people start a thread on the forum talking about a type of bass they've spotted in the marketplace. What it will definitely mean, however, is that the people who run BC will have far more time to help in other areas and effectively stop them having to step in when comments are seen as derogatory or unhelpful, which they sometimes can be. I'm sure it'll work very well and I think the drawbacks are far outweighed by the ease of use and the enhanced sellability it'll provide. Being able to see the latest 60 things listed at a glance is pretty cool. ped

Hi guys Thanks for the comments. The 4% is calculated by how many paypal transactions have come through as donations (either random OR from selling items) against the total number of things listed over the last month. WHilst some of those listed items may not have eventually sold, it's the best I could do with my quick assessment. I agree it's very low,so hopefully we'll see this reversed now that everyone has the chance to pay a couple of pounds for the gallery view. We thought it was important to allow free access to the classifieds, though - out of the kindness of our hearts and the fact that more listings makes us more visible on the web and can attract advertisers, so it's kind of win-win. Please though, for all our sakes, take advantage of the paid option!!If nearly everone avoids it, we might have to make charging mandatory. My feeling is that most members here are quite grateful for the facility so having a gallery item shows they care By the way, I'm in the process of adding Sagepay to the site so users can pay via card rather than using PayPal (though you can use card through them too without being a member) Thanks ped

Maybe we can make the forum locked to new posts but still allow replies. We'll investigate this week. Bumping isn't happening just yet - there are plugins we can buy that will allow it but with 60 items a page, an item listed in the most popular section (basses for sale) will remain on the first two pages for approximately 3 weeks, so it shouldn't be necessary especially with the gallery view making items more visible and being able to filter out sold items too. Again, as many people disliked and were annoyed by persistent bumping than those who liked to bump daily. I wonder if it's actually very fair to do that. We currently have a 36 hr rule but that requires constant vigilence by the mods and it's not really enforcable. We may custom make a bumping button that is only allowed to be used once every 36hrs but we'll see how it goes. By the way sorry I missed the mobile theme question - again, that's coming once we can afford it. We're trying to bring you the best experience we can, with close to zero money, remember Cheers guys

The driver for change is lack of funds - approximately 4% of current sales throught the site end with the seller donating a few pounds. We also feel that the new format is a big step forwards in usability and clarity. 'Proper communication' can be entered into with the seller, albeit in a clearer, less 'stop messing up my sales thread' and more direct kind of way, which is important as the volume of sales is so high on BC. We feel it'll be less work to look after, easier to see what's for sale and raise some funds to help develop BC, DC (drumchat) and GC (guitarchat). I hope you'll change your mind when you try it. It's impossible to impress everyone, but the benefits for us as a team running this site are huge, and we believe the majority will enjoy the new format and find it clearer and as useful as before. Cheers for the feedback, all ideas will be discussed when it's been going for a while and when we can afford to hire more programmers to add any adaptions we might like.

It's great that my bass represents the sense of community on BC. It's reminding me how special this forum is.

Recently I decided that I wanted to install two buttons to control the Roland GK system into my bass. I asked on BC if anyone could help me source some appropriate momentary function push buttons and I had a response from KiOgon who sent me a couple of samples. After we got chatting about the installation process he offered very kindly to do it for me. All I had to do was supply the bits. I installed the GK system myself a couple of years ago but since moving house I don't have the equipment to do a neat job of this further addition. So, when the bits arrived from Roland I emailed KiOgon to say 'when are you available'. 'Any time' he replied... 'Now?' I ventured... and two hours later I was parking up outside his house 104 miles away. Needless to say he was a welcoming and friendly chap who did a superb job of the install whilst I watched on, feeling somewhere between terror and awe as I watched him drill holes in my bass: And here's the finished job (sorry, crap pic): Vigier Passion GK by chiscocks, on Flickr Thinking about it, this bass has been 'adapted' over the years by a few BC members. The pickup surround was made by a BCer from Australia many years ago, before BC was called BC, and the bass itself was bought on BC and filled with Marleaux electronics by Eubassix here on the forum. I had one of these. Really cool piece of kit. I'd have one on my current bass but there's no room! I bought mine directly from their site and even though it's a bit expensive and a piece of foam works pretty much just as well, it's much quicker and a nicely engineered solution [IMG]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v164/pedullaman/Vigiers%20and%20Bacchus/P7010684p.jpg[/IMG] They get my thumbs up!
