1. Lets wait until its finished then try it. If we decide its not working we can look at alternatives. What would people say to a forum based area but where members must pay a fee to make a listing, say £20 a year or something? The reason for this new system is two fold, mainly because we think it'll make browsing easier with thumbnails and because it'll make some £ we need. Lets try it, remember its not finished yet.
  2.
Ped, et al question.... the old sales forums had some nice terms and condition which you had to abide by - where are they on the new one? Reason I ask is there currently is an item up with a price of £0.00 and asking for offers. Naturally I offered him the £0.00 he had stated but wondered what the rules were in the new sales forum - has it changed at all?
Hi Luke, no, not in principle. They will need re-wording to suit the new area but the same rules will stand. Thanks ped

Thanks for the donations and purchases guys its all really helpful. The margin on polos and T shirts is fairly modest; somewhere around £4 after postage. I don't think they are ever a great way to raise funds but wanted to offer them more as a response to people asking and just for fun. The only way to make mega bucks in shirts is to do them In bulk but I don't have the space, time or funds to do it that way. I definitely need to take better pictures of the t shirts and photoshop my face out of the polo shirt pics. One job on the list is to create a better shop, so we're hoping to be able to spruce it up in due course and go as far as distributing gear from small businesses right here on BC. We also have made some huge progress with the blog which will be taking off soon with lots of exciting news and so forth. We'll keep pressing on - the potential and the enjoyment if it is what drives us, personally more than my day job most of the time. Cheers ped
  7.
Sorry if I missed this already, but the classified ads don't seem to be listed in 'view new content' for the forum. Is this likely to change, or is that how it is? Ta!
On the 'view new content' bit there's a classifieds bit you can highlight. That will bring them all up, albeit in a seperate filter to regular forum threads. Cheers

Thanks very much for the support with this guys. Anyone doing so has every chance of getting a free live Slade CD along with the payment, second prize is TWO Slade CDs.
Chris, may I remind you guys to please add a Twitter button/link at least to the home page. Our Twitter followers have increased by 100 since we took control of the account and started tweeting regularly and being responsive, and hopefully will continue to grow as more and more musicians and companies choose to keep up to date with the site through that medium. Edit: when I say "we" I mean you guys and me, I'm not using the Queen's plural...
Yes we have a guy on that - thing is the first thing we need to do is fix up to where we were and then do new things later. Thanks for the hard work in twitter, too.

  13.
ahh...the filters..does that mean you dont like bumping and this is the solution? maybe i do like then. I just wish the search windows all over the site would be more specific, like searching the titles only instead of absolutely everying posted. So much irrelevant info in all search results .
Hi The new classifieds will bring about better results in the searching of that particular section. In other areas of the site we are looking at improving the search index and refining it some more, so rest assured its something we would like to improve, too. The new classifieds will look so much better when it's finished, too. Give it a while to settle in and we'll see how it's going then Cheers!

    Help BC

Hi Basschatters I just wrote a massive thing all about the recent updates and the problems we're aware of, but then I posted it and I used HTML by accident, the formatting went and the whole post went tits up. So, instead, a short plea. The recent work has cost us every penny we had in the pot, and whilst the new section should raise funds going forward, it's not finished yet. So, with that in mind, can I just ask: Do you LOVE BC? Do you miss the little things like the 'go to first unread post' blobs/stars? If so, please help us by buying a BC lanyard. My friend Dave is waiting for your order RIGHT NOW. Buy a few and I'll see if I can get him to deliver them personally and shake your hand (or more) I know you might be thinking WTF am I going to do with a lanyard, well, all the money raised from them goes directly to BC (polos and T shirts we make very little on, to keep prices down) so you'd be helping us, at the very least. Alternatively please use this donations link: <form action="https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" method="post"> <input type="hidden" name="cmd" value="_s-xclick"> <input type="hidden" name="hosted_button_id" value="6RNHURY9AJ684"> <input type="image" src="https://www.paypalobjects.com/en_US/GB/i/btn/btn_donateCC_LG.gif" border="0" name="submit" alt="PayPal — The safer, easier way to pay online."> <img alt="" border="0" src="https://www.paypalobjects.com/en_GB/i/scr/pixel.gif" width="1" height="1"> </form> A huge thank you to everyone who has donated recently to help with the difficult past few days, we really are supping fumes now, but one more push over the top and we'll be stronger than ever once we're all fixed up and updated. Thanks for hanging in there and thanks in anticipation of your support. ped P.s - quick updates on current problems we're aware of:

'go to first unread post' blobs
'last post by... in...' bit at end of forum indexes
upload system borked
Malware (now fixed, though you may still see message until google take us off blacklist)
sidebar items missing
lots of smaller details - we'll bring them all back, don't worry
Kiwi still needs a bath
18. Yes, it's being fixed along with some other things currently. Thanks
  19. Hi BasschattersI thought I'd write a post detailing exactly where we are with the site at the moment. There are posts all over the place reporting the same things, and it can be tiring repeating the same messages and also confusing for the members. I also want to remind you of the new functionality coming up and finally to ask for your help. First of all, we are aware of several small issues with the site at the moment. Things like the 'go to first new post' blobs/stars not showing. Other things like the 'last post by.... in...' missing. Sidebar items not showing. etc. All those have been logged and are being addressed by our tech support chap who is currently in China on business, so bad timing means he can't look at everything all at once, though he's most definitely 'on it', plus a whole host of other things besides that.Secondly, the recent malware warnings. It's all been fixed, and as far as we know there wasn't any motive to take data from users. All your data is encrypted and stored safely, however you may wish to change your password if you like. Full system wiping/IED sellotaping is unnecessary. The warning may still show whilst we're removed from the blacklist as it were, but the issue has been solved. Unfortunately it just seems like bad timing that it happened when it did; there's nothing to suggest it has anything to do with the work that was going on at the time. Thirdly, the image upload system needs fixing. This is bugging me because it's a core concept of the new classifieds section, and through using it we'll have a new section that makes scanning what's for sale easier and faster. As it's busted currently though the section hasn't got the 'new section wow factor' which is a shame, however once it's fixed it'll start to populate with paid ads, hopefully. £1.75 to show a thumbnail on the index view. We all really hope this takes off as it'll mean we can pay for the site and reduce our dependence on donations and advertising. If it doesn't, or if it's not generally working, then we'll go back to the drawing board. Time will tell, and with your support we can modify and adapt the plugin even more. For the time being we've left the old sales area open, too. So, finally - the recent work and anti spam/virus stuff has cost us dearly. Although we have covered most of it, we would like to pay off one or two outstanding invoices for patching up the forum and keeping it running. Without these constant incremental updates the site simply wouldn't be here. The recent invoice is more then we have in the coffers, so if you would like to show your appreciation for this man's work, then a donation to the fund would be GREATLY appreciated by all.As soon as the new work is finished, we should be completely fine, but times are tight until that point. I know the paypal donations bit is missing at the moment, but a great way to support us would be to buy a BC lanyard from the shop as all the funds go directly to BC. Also polo shirt and T shirt sales help, though we make very little on those to keep the prices down. If you would prefer to simply send a donation, please do so using this button <form action="https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr" method="post"><input type="hidden" name="cmd" value="_s-xclick"><input type="hidden" name="hosted_button_id" value="6RNHURY9AJ684"><input type="image" src="https://www.paypalobjects.com/en_US/GB/i/btn/btn_donateCC_LG.gif" border="0" name="submit" alt="PayPal — The safer, easier way to pay online."><img alt="" border="0" src="https://www.paypalobjects.com/en_GB/i/scr/pixel.gif" width="1" height="1"></form> I would like to thank al the mods for helping out with the ongoing work - It's really difficult with us all being in different countries, parts of the UK and with full time jobs of our own to actually co-ordinate things. Hamster has been working really hard his end and I know I haven't kept him up to date because I don't know what's happening on the other end of the line. It's confusing, but it's amazing how people have pulled together to make it work. What really matters is that BC is YOUR website, and it's only as strong as it's members. If BC has meant something to you, please consider the above, and be patient whilst we get through the updates and bits and bobs. We'll get there ASAP! Many thanks to you all ped
  20.
Hi guys, I appreciate all the hard work you must have been putting in to get the site updated. I'm sure a lot of the ins and outs would be way above my head, or attention span! One little question though, is the panel on the front page which said who made the last post in each subsection gone for good? If have found myself bouncing in and out of each section just to see whether anything has been replied to now! Not a big deal, but it would be good to know whether to expect it back or not. Cheers, Andy
That should be back along with the 'go to last post' buttons and a whole host of other things we're missing/working on. I was really hoping for some progress today but... cheers ped
  21.
Sorry Ped, missed that one. I'd seen something originally saying that their would be pics on the front pages and thought that the fact there now weren't might be something to do with the various site issues kicking around
Nah it's not connected, thankfully!! Cheers
  22.
Ni images loading in the new classified section for me - the listings are there but the various home pages are completely image free
Hi mate Check my earlier post:
That's right. I've disabled it for the time being. It'll cost £1.75 and your advert will have a picture rather than a grey box in the forum index. It'll help people see what's for sale and help people shift their items! There were some preview links in post #1 but now the test site has closed so they don't work. Cheers
23.
So what was the problem? If we were hacked I wonder who would hack little old us?
It's nothing personal - because we're such a big 'pipe' to the internet, sites like us are targeted by malware bots etc for spreading adverts and crap. It's not the sort of 'hacking' that steals passwords and user data or anything like that. Just something we'll have to eek out and burl later today.
