Importing a neck with an Indian rosewood fingerboard & CITES
ped replied to JimBobTTD's topic in General Discussion
I've spent the last week trying to get hold of SOMEONE, ANYONE at 'CITES' to give me some clear guidance that I can give to you all. NOBODY will give me a straight answer to my questions, I keep getting passed from one person to another and the whole process is frankly a shambles. -

Cool collection. I thought you had a really long sofa, too.

Although we’re not allowed to host Rickenbacker sales on Basschat due to John Hall being a (omitted for legal reasons), I can’t say I’m unhappy to see fake ricks being sold elsewhere. Scam or not!

can't shim a set neck, but the bridge saddles are too high
ped replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in Repairs and Technical
Naah I’ve done it loads of times without a single problem. It’s very difficult to make it a rough finish if you do it with a proper file. -

I’d file the saddles down. Go deeper than you have to then raise them up to taste. When I say file them down I mean use a round file and file the grooves down rather than the bottom of the barrel. -
Or, more accurately, lets see how long it takes the web company to make the changes. Speaking from experience the simplest jobs can take an age to get fixed and I’m sure The Gallery will do their best!

Great!! Looks nice, that.

Yes I have one like that and much prefer single balls. I wonder if there's a design where you can have the ball end at the headstock and then clamp the end of the string at the tuner end = best of both worlds...
-
I like the look of that design. For me, what kills most headless designs is the 'other' end, which often seems 'unfinished'. However, there are a few examples of ideas I really like which still have a sort-of headstock:

I could downgrade it to a spank

I owe you one punch, redeemable on Sat or Sun

I'm getting the train from York so I hope that's OK - last time the one in front of us was delayed by an hour because there was a balloon on the line. Guess we won't know until we get to the station (at 6am!)

One might question whether this was the right place to begin with?!

I’m especially pleased to be working with The Gallery - when I first started to play the bass I’d often take the trip to Camden to play a few basses then head off to Denmark Street. The shop will always hold a special place in my heart and I’d love them to get some more exposure. I know they are well known among enthusiasts but I’m sure lots of new players aren’t aware of the shop. So if you haven’t been, do!

Reckon between your legs it'll be fine. They probably envisage items being that big to be things like bikes or something.

Plenty of people do, if they want to try a certain amp or something. The environment is far from the best place for auditioning an amp though but if you want to bring it, go for it. There should be someone on the Basschat stand all weekend so you can leave it with us if you want.
