1. Anything by Prong. Tommy's guitar tone always makes me want to smash stuff.
2. I've got a Shine 5-string, it was my first ever 5 and I used it exclusively for a couple of years. Excellent thing and amazing value. I played a Shine 6 string at the London Music Show and that was brilliant too. Something ridiculous like £160 it was.
3. Keeping a steady beat on an open string is probably enough of a target for day one. Congratulations on the Aria, my first bass was a Pro II. Excellent bit of kit.
4. Can you give us a ballpark figure please?
5. That's gonna need a shed-load of storage.

7.
Any pre gig tips would be appreciated!
At this point I'd usually say 'get completely pi55ed and get your willy out', but I suppose that's inappropriate.
8.
I've never been able to work out why that happens!
Drink, usually.
9. Hmmm, I slap mine, but not often. I had no idea that the name Thumb signifies that it's built for slap. edit: I'm referring to my bass throughout the above post, thanks.
10.
I promise not to post on forums any more when I've been out on the lash.
Who hasn't got that particular tee-shirt?
11.
A young student of mine gave me one of her grandpa's plectrums as a present recently!....
Which begs a question. If her grandfather is John Paul Jones....
12. Ooooh oooh ooh, The Song Remains The Same.
13. Trainspotting? MI2 maybe.
14. Hmmm, I have a Laney that looks somewhat similar to that but I haven't noticed the overtone you're mentioning. I run the whole thing flat. Is your compression wound on too far?
15. You know the directory structure type set of links that appears at the top of every page, like this? Basschat.co.uk > "The Local" > Site News > Site issues Is it possible to make it appear at the bottom of every page too? It would make it a hell of a lot easier to navigate about if you could make a decision having scrolled to the bottom of a page, without having to scroll back to the top. If you catch my drift.
16.
I bet he is! What a pervert.
Ha ha ha, and this is why kids these days can't get into the scouts.
17. Bit far away for me, sorry.
18. I've done lead vocal and bass for years and I don't think it's a matter of knowing the song, as much as it's a matter of just practising the technique. It's actually not that difficult, but I'd say you should always be prepared to (somewhat) compromise the bassline if necessary if one of the accents in the line is really throwing the vocal (or vice versa).
19. Ah, it's not just me then.
20.
Anybody else ever been engrossed in a track, then suddenly thought "Where the hell am I? What am I doing? Sh*t! What comes next?!"
That's exactly the kind of intrusive mental panic that makes you bugger stuff up, whereas if you don't think about it, your hands cope just fine.
21. I have to get stuff 'into my fingers' so that I can play and sing. It can take a hell of a long time, especially if the vocal line is accently differently to the bassline.
22. That's the spirit. If you've got three knackered basses, a man of your talents must be able to construct at least one good bass from the bits.
23. Oh mate cheer up, you're usually a paragon of patience with this stuff. It just sounds like niggly stuff to me. If a pot's crackly when you turn it, don't turn it. How's your sister getting on painting that Squier?
