1. Good grief, you're lucky you didn't decapitate someone! There's an interesting thought. If a chicken can run around for 10 seconds after you've chopped it's head off, how long do you reckon a drummer can maintain the beat under the same circumstances?
2. Yup, the Thumb is ace on it's own, but it also cuts through the guitar sludge in the band as well.
3. Bought a pristine Warwick from Pete last week. No problems at all doing the deal or collecting the bass. Pete's an excellent bloke to deal with and he's really helpful, friendly and informative at all times.
4. Yeah, spot the cats!
5. PDF and MP3 http://rs76.rapidshare.com/files/35290180/...es-for-Bass.rar
6. I found neck dive to be a (not big, but technique-affecting) problem on my Thumb last night, when I played it in anger for the first time. I'd like to try a non-slip strap first. Can anybody hook me up with a link to where I can get one please?
7.
Agree with all the previous comments - friendly, great advice on gear etc - only trouble is my GAS has gone thru the roof looking at what everyone else plays!
Took the words right out of my mouth.
8. I love early Megadeth, but they've been sh1te for years and Mustaine is a pewling idiot.
9. I picked up my NT Thumb 5 last night having never played a Warwick before and, as I have been reading this sort of thread quite a lot on here, I was quite fearful about the neck. but it just seems normal to me - maybe even a little narrower than I'm used to.
10. I bought 2 SM58s a couple of years ago. They're pretty cheap now and seem fine to me. Mind you, I'm hardly Whitney Houston...
11.
hilarious laser noises
Ahahahahaha. I told my wife that I would like a Warwick Thumb for my birthday this year (40th) and she pressured and pressured me until I found one. She wouldn't let me get a BO either, 'cos she knew I really wanted an NT. We really can't afford it. She's awesome. Collecting the NT tomorrow (thanks Pete)....
12. Recently, that Simpsons theme that Stuart Clayton posted. It's not just the playing of it (which is insane), it's the working it out. There's a completely mental two-handed bit in it that really just scares the life out of me. I reckon that if I could play that, I could probably play anything, but I acknowledge that - even given all the time in the world just to practise bass - I'd never crack it.
13. You sent me back to my youth so I went looking for this. Gotta love WASP! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqT2Y2l6aLA
14. Much rather do songs I like. Because I take lead vocal as well as bass, an interesting bassline isn't the be all and end all for me.
15. £70? Oh god, that's ridiculously cheap.
16. Wasn't Boris The Spider one of his 'signature tracks'? I'd buy the book to get The Real Me anyway.
17. I have one of those tiny little Marshall 'stacks' that runs off of a 9v battery. It is rubbish though...
18. The feedback idea is good and would encourage me, but on the other side, there are some amazing bass players here that I wouldn't compete against the same way I wouldn't pick a fight with Joe Calzaghe!
19.
Justin Chancellor
Good call.
20. Ryan Martinie, LD50 - that's my ideal bass sound. Unfortunately, I haven't got access to the million pounds that it would cost me to achieve it, so I set my Zoom B21.u to mimic an Ampeg and then just hit my bass really hard around the bottom of the neck.
21. TBH I'd play almost anything, just to play. The music I like to listen to doesn't have the greatest scope for bass playing/singing anyway. I'm too old to be blinkered by 'integrity' now.
22. Gear elitism isn't my style at all. One of the best basses I own is a Shine 5 string that cost me just over £100 on Ebay. It was my first 5 string and it was exactly what I needed at the time. If I keep fresh strings on it and really crank it out, it sounds excellent.
23.
Dya reckon that Stevie is the greatest metal bassist ever?
I think there are loads better than him these days, but he certainly broke some ground. Apropos of that, the most difficult bassline I learned was Severed by Mudvayne. I'm sure there are much more difficult basslines out there, but I know my limits.
24. I have 4 but I only really use one of them. They just accumulate as I see something I like (need?) and usually they're too old or worthless to sell off.
