1. Adrian Erlandsson? You lucky, lucky man. And Stuart Clayton too. It sounds like a fantastic week. Do you mind if I ask how much it cost?
2.
Pagelli 5-String-Bass Joel Reif
It's fabulous. Where can I find out more? Is it a total one off? Is it a partially lined fretless? Where are the pickups? Where are the controls?
3. Hmmm, even £650 might be a bit full, I've seen them go for £450 on Ebay. I think they're intrinsically worth more than they're making at the moment, so I'd be inclined to hang onto it if you can.
4. My wife used to snog his poster when she was younger, and she still goes gooey if she sees the video for True. I therefore bet he can't play for toffee.
5. Depends how I'm playing. Recently, it's mostly been called a F***ING STUPID PIECE OF CR&P.
6. You're not gonna get anywhere near £200 for the kids, not if they're anything like mine.
7. Crikey, what's the one on the top left?
8. Get well soon then.
9. Groovy. One word of warning. Warwick send you all the usual order processing emails, but they're all in German, so I had no idea what was going on at any stage.
10. Sounds good to me. I can play the intro to Smoke On The Water if anyone's struggling.
11. Here you go chap. Cleeeek!
12. I'm no expert to be honest, but I have made the JAN2 to JAN3 change on my Thumb. I did consider a JAN1, mostly for the look of it rather than the sound. What put me off is that you have to take the strings off to adjust the nut height on a JAN1. It seemed to me that you'd have to de-string, adjust the height, re-string, test the height, de-string again, etc. It just seemed like a pain to me. Also, I've heard it said that people have had to take a file to their headstocks to get a JAN1 into the space previously occupied by the JAN2, and there was no way that I was going to do that. The JAN3 just slots right in there (if you take the truss rod cover thingy off first).
13. Sounds like a banning offence to me mate.
14. So much potential for innuendo. Must resist.
15. I have no particularly erudite thoughts on the subject, but I think it's pretty clear that, in terms of absolute popularity, technique is not going to make much difference. In point of fact, the real virtuosos are probably less popular than they could be if they hid their chops under a metaphorical bushel sometimes.
16. Just get a JAN3 from Warwick. The JAN2 is rubbish anyway, because the retaining pegs snap off and leave you with nasty sharp edges at the edge of the nut. The JAN3 is cheap, Warwick send it quickly, and the swap out is a piece of cake.
17.
I'd then have to've grown my hair (check my profile pic as to the main reason why this'd be an issue) and made it do that flicky kinda-across-the-face thing...ooh, and dyed it black, and worn my jeans round the middle of my thighs, and started wearing black checkerboard belts/ties/scarfs etc etc etc...
Ooooh, we seem to have tapped a deep, bitter vein of prejudice there.
18. Go! Filth Sword. Goldfish Wort. Fold Hog Wrist Dog sh*t Fowl (cheated there) Hours of fun. Oh, hi by the way.
19. Nah, bilbo and mcgraham's posts were sh*t.
20.
Graduate from Jeff Berlins Players School of Music in Florida 2006, and then five years study at Basstech @ The Guitar Institute in London
Are you posting from the future? Nice CV, I wish I was you.
21. Hi, welcome. Never a good idea to over-emphasise a semi in my experience. Generally leads to disappointment all round.
22.
Smooth.
+1 Very Nigel Havers.
23.
Presumably the drummer would still have to be going at a consistent speed otherwise the sample will never run at the same speed?? Mmmmm - this does sound like bad news.
Only way is to suck it and see I suppose. It's not a massive amount of work to setup a full track with click (especially if you already have the keyboard part), and maybe your drummer will be able to play along to the click for the whole song. For us, the struggle was where we had a backing track that lasted the whole length of the song but was only a click in places, then big stabs of keyboard (or whatever) in other places. In that case, it's not just a keeping in time issue, it's also a making sure that you play the song exactly the same every time issue. If you throw in half a bar extra somewhere (for example), then you're shagged, because you're out of synch with an immovable backing track. Whereas, if you have a human triggering bits and pieces when required in the song you're playing, then you don't have to be so accurate with your real instruments.
24. Nope, it's called Battery 3. I just asked our guitarist and apparently it was free, but it's not meant to be, if you catch my drift.
