Wow, Rick. That is drop dead gorgeous! I presume this is the product of the multiple-part trade you mentioned to me?

Hi I assembled this collection off eBay sellers about a decade ago, they are supposedly taken from gigs and actually played by Metallica (Jason) and 2 x Slayer (Tom Araya). They are just sat in my musical odds and ends drawer so I thought why not auction them for charidee? Let's say this runs until Sunday so I can post to the winner Monday. Winner has to donate to Help the Aged. I am setting a minimum of £20 (actually they cost more than twice that but I am a mug!) What do you reckon? Be like your metal heroes, even if only in plectrum worship Edited: I thought the black one was Motörhead but it is actually a 2nd Slayer pick

This has been my main gigging amp with double bass for about three years now but is in very good condition (like all my gear; others on my feedback thread will testify to this). Comes with deluxe padded cover which is slightly ravaged by use but still fully functional. Mine is the single channel version (the head is removable and can be used separately) and has all the functionality a DB'er could possible want (phase switch, high pass filter, different room settings etc). Works really well with acoustic guitar and other acoustic instruments too. Only selling as I find I prefer the ultra-portablity of my super-light, small footprint Crazy8 cab and a separate head. New would run you over £1,500, so I think £850 is a bargain. Currently unable to post so its hand-over/collection only in London area for the moment Looks like this but actual pics to follow

I'm after a 51/55 Precision relic ... but there are limits

Hey matey I have done but I am just not a fan of black basses, superficial though that sounds. If they could re-spray it blonde I would be in like Flynn!!! -
I attended a bluegrass instructional weekend in October ('Sorefingers') and there was a lady there with Rotosound Rs4000 strings on her bass which sound to me like the ones you have described. They are basically synthetic equivalents of an old time gut set with metal wrapped E and A but at a much lower price than guts. Herbie Flowers uses them. They are very low tension indeed and were not that loud in my view, so the comments above on set-up may be very relevant. http://basschat.co.uk/uploads/monthly_08_2012/post-862-0-57064300-1344451156.jpg I am playing occasionally in a bluegrass type outfit and I sm using Spiro Weich E and A and gut D and G, however Velvet strings also work well in this genre as they are low tension and quite loud (the cheapest ones Blues are very good and similar gauge to 'regular' steel strings while the fatter gauge Garbos and Animas are slightly better sounding albeit pricier).

I have a couple of gigs upcoming in January. Tupelo Uncles, 8th Jan First up is an all-acoustic tribute to alt-country's finest, Uncle Tupelo, at the Betsey Trotwood in central London, supporting London bluegrass stalwarts Foghorn Leghorn. We are calling ourselves the Tupelo Uncles and comprise guitar/vox (x2), fiddle, mandolin and double bass. The gig is on Thursday January 8th and should blow some cobwebs away! No detailed timings as yet but we have a 40-minute set FaceBook page (for those who have FB) here: https://www.facebook.com/events/492318107576839/?pnref=story All The Queens Ravens, 23rd Jan Although the band is on something of a hiatus (as our drummer has gone traveling for a year and two of the girls have moved out of London) we are playing a drummer-free gig at the lovely Green Note in Camden on Friday 23rd Jan. We are headlining so will probably be onstage about 9.30pm Details here: http://www.greennote.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2767

As well as the wonderful 'Beyond the Missouri Sky' album with Pat Metheny (one of my desert island discs) I can wholeheartedly recommend the album "Nocturne", a Latin-influenced late night jazz album. Wonderfully melodic and with (as ever) the most tasteful and generally to the point/non-meandering solos from Charlie Haden https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTeVod4eH5k -
FYI, the seller is a BassChatter who has the username subsong (real name Mark). If it doesn't sell on eBay (4 hours to run and no bids yet) and you are interested in this bass I suggest you drop him a PM. I was considering the bass but finances do not allow

http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&t=4m30s&v=3sxh-FXhFBU Solo starts at 4.30 but the whole piece is rather lovely. Spotted this on Geoffbassist's facebook page, thanks Geoff! Also interesting to me to see how far away from the end of the board he plays with his right hand (which in part explains his beautiful soft, non aggressive tone). Completely different from say Ray Brown who played right near the end of the board and was a lot more propulsive in his playing.
