1.
Good enough for depeche mode....and thompson twin if ya old enough to remember!?!
Unfotunately I am !
2. Bob the builder Peppa Pig Rock n roll Modernish cheese Then do some of the stuff you want to do!
3.
And judging by the song you mention in your last post, I doubt whether anyone in the audience would actually notice if those parts were missing - I certainly can't recall them doing anything extra special.
That got me thinking, so went back and took everything we would have used out of the track. Does sound completely different believe it or not!
4.
PS: if your drummer isn't good at keeping time alone, he's going to suffer with a click, I'm certain...
We did have a metronome for him which he could play along to nicely. Hard bit was getting him to set the tempo on the new fandangled digital magical box. His biggest problem is putting in stupid drum rolls or double snare hits where they don't fit, which buggers me up no end. Past 2 gigs I have moved next to the lead guitarist and tend to follow him rather than the drums. Not ideal, but seems to work!! I WANT MY OLD BAND BACK! Damn wives and kids screwing everything up lol
5. The main one we want to try is Dreadlock Holiday. Got the track from Karaoke-version.co.uk a pulled out all the drums, vocals, guitar and bass and just left with percussion (basically a click through most of the song + some bongo / toms thing going on) , organ, synthesiser and doesn't sound too bad. Hoping that the click will keep it all together. we'll see................... lol
6. Well, the other benefit is keeping the drummer in time! He does have trouble at times, even after 50 years behind a kit!
7. What's the general feeling on using backing tracks for live gigs? 5 piece band (lazy, part timers, gig when we fancy it........ drummer, 2 gits, bass and singer) and a couple of the songs we want to do have keyboard / horns or something on the original, and just sound wrong either trying to get one of the gits to play the part, or leaving it out all together. We only really do pub gigs,so is it allowed to have a keyboard player that is actually an ipad?! Thoughts / comments / etc etc please!
8. Have a look at their live set on youtube. She also does some vocals and weird "praise the lord" arm gestures. To be fair, all 3 of them do some slightly weird things, drummer looks like the only one from earth
9. Done. Nice tune btw. Can I nick your singer? And drummer? Oh, and if the guitarist is free...............!
10.
Just thought I'd make sure we've all seen this version...
11. Before I even clicked the link I knew what it was going to be. Scary face, nice bass
12. Is it that much now?! Was about £58 when i registred
13. Can either set the band up as a business and make yourselves all partners, or have one of you as the business owner and put the rest of the band members down as subbies / labour. It would probably be easier (paperwork wise) for one of you to be the business owner, and have the rest of the band as labour / sub contractors. I wouldn't go down the route of having them as employees as then you have to get involved with PAYE etc, although it would mean more work for whoever does the paperwork. You need a receipt from each band member (with name and address and signed) when you pay them. It is down to them to register as self employed or not, as long as you get a signed receipt youre ok. As long as none of you earn a fortune in your day job, you'll pay the standard 20% on whatever each of you earn, less expenses. But, whoever the business owner is, will pay the 20% tax on every bit of profit. So if you charge £1000 per gig, give 3 band members £150 each, that leaves £550. Say there is £100 as 'expenses' , which leaves £450 then the business owner will be liable to pay 20% on the whole £450. Obviously if you done 10 gigs like this and had £4.5k in the pot, you could divvy it out between the band members (with a receipt from them obviously!) or buy a new PA to get round paying tax on it. Also remember that spending £4k on a bass is allowed to be put down as a business expense. Cant work without your tools! As for vat, you can register now if you like, it's just compulsory after £5x,000. I think im rambling now, so back to the suarez thread......
14. Personally, instead of taxing the sellers, I would make the classified forum only open to paid members. Tenner a year, buy / sell what you like. Maybe get a couple of benefits for paid members, could get a discount scheme with some online suppliers. As for the general / off topic discussions, you're always going to get a conflict somewhere along the line, so just stfu and get on with it. There are one or 2 of the older members who come across as they know it all and you're intruding in their little private club, but you get that anywhere where the stalewarts are! Overall I reckon you're all doing a good job. Admin set ot the rules and make sure the logistics work, mods are there to enforce the rules. If people want to bash the mods or admin for enforcing rules, then f**k them off out of here.
15. My god. After last night I now realise I need plugs. Drummers bell on the ride cymbal was killing me last night, mixed in with the vocals coming back through the monitor. I dont think these little pub/club gigs help where you're all sanwiched together in the corner in front of the fireplace.
16. Have a look on google, loads of diagrams on there
17. Sounds like your busting your balls with the theory side of things. Learn a couple of easy songs (thousands and thousands of 3 chord wonders out there) then you will feel some sort of achievement and the rest will follow. I've never had a lesson in my life (probably why i'm still shyte!) and 90% of what you said about pentatonics and scales mean screw all to me, so with your 4 weeks you probably know more than me already
18. Make a template of what you want and get one water jetted
19. I would say if you start asking £100 then they'll expect you to be sh*t hot. If you say bung me £30 and some beers then they'll know what sort of standard to expect! Keep it simple, enjoy it and buy yourself a new set of strings from it!
20. About 4 months for me. First instrument i'd ever played, if you dont count recorder when i was 8 or the bontempi organ i got when i was a kid which I dismantled to see how it worked. As I was the only one in our local that could handle not drinking and had a van, I was a roady for our local covers band. I wanted the buzz of being on stage so one of the guitarists gave me a bass, a little practice amp, a lesson which involved "Hold the string here, and pluck it here with the other hand", then just sat down with a book and a cd and taught myself the set, mainly because they were easy covers. Done a rehearsal with them (which was basically hitting the root notes) when the bassist didn't turn up just to fill in, then done my first gig with them when the bassist went on one of his heroin binges and couldn't be located. Was shaking for the whole of the first set, but bumbled through it! Luckilly it was a freebie leaving do so didn't matter too much!
21. They're ok but take some getting used to. Will need to crank the volume up a fair bit as theyre quite flexy.
22. Think we're gonna be there thursday rehearsing. Got a gig friday otherwise might have popped in
23.
Glad you got that sorted so quick. The JF is one of the venues I play, they get a good crowd, not too rowdy, decent load in and a half decent (if smallish) stage. Enjoy.
Ooo, they have a stage now? When i played there it was in front of the fireplace!
