La Bella Black Nylons on a Status Fretless.
markorbit replied to fretmeister's topic in Bass Guitars
I find that nylon strings work well with graphite necks. Real pure tone - some may find it clinical but I like it. -
NOW SOLD. THANKS FOR LOOKING. I bought this for a recent effects-laden project that didn't come off so it hasn't even left the house. As new... Markbass MultiAMP. I have just updated the firmware to the latest v3 software. It has all sorts of amp models and effects built in including a tuner. I liked this approach as it means I didn't need to worry about any extra stuff in addition to plugging in the amp. It still has the protective film on the display. No marks and works perfectly. Contains lots of different high quality presets - LM3, BigBang, SVT etc. Comes with owners manual and rack ears. Not looking for trades although a Status Streamliner deal might be tempting. Thanks. Looking to downsize from Ampeg rig but not sure what to buy
markorbit replied to sPiKi's topic in Amps and Cabs
I don't think there is a micro head on the market that will give you the real warm tone of a V4BH. Maybe the Aguilar TH500 is heading that way but it's still a long way short of an all-tube head. Another possibility is the SVT7 Pro - but nothing I've heard gets you that sound of a nice tube power stage. -

Maybe his black ones are in for a service or something? I would guess it's exactly the same amp. I think the JJ ones available to the public are tweaked a little.

Current GAS for a Mesa M9 and Status Streamline 5. Yeah, it's like I never started over 30 years ago.

Labella S660 vs Status Black Nylon Hand Wound for Steinberger
markorbit replied to Mr Bassman's topic in Bass Guitars
I don't play fretless but do have an L2 and I've tried all the strings you mention with the exception of the S500L. Mine are the S500M and they sure thud and thump on the L2 In my experience the Status black nylons are easy to play, not too tight and the strings add a certain round wound clarity to the black nylon charecter. What I didn't like was how they thinned out as you got to the G string. Both in sound and feel. This is from memory, it's a while since I tried them. The La Bella S660 are the complete opposite - big and chunky, rounded attack with quicker decay - that description sounds quite appealing but I felt it was a little sterile on the L2. In the end I preferred the normal S500M flats which have a more articulated attack and don't lose the depth. And now I'm just trying some standard gauge rounds and realising I can get the action lower and it almost plays itself. -
I think there is a V3 software update on it's way before too long. Did they announce anything at Musikmesse?

Very keen to try the Multiamp. It has everything I need except tremolo. Hopefully, that might get added. Can't be a complicated effect can it...

JJB-500 Ashdown Jean Jacques Burnel Signature Bass Amp WITHDRAWN

I played one of these Lakin P basses recently and was very impressed with tone, fit and finish. All USA hardware, bone nut and nothing wrong with the headstock IMO. It has it's own appeal. A big plus is you can get at the truss rod. All basses should have easy truss access. I see these as a modern, practical and in some ways improved version of a classic design.

I think this is a very cool amp for the home with the emphasis on classic looks, versatility and a clean (no wires) approach. I like the idea that you can stream bluetooth audio from a smartphone and just use it as a music system in bass downtime. Coupling that with wireless bass makes a very neat package IMO.

I used to own a ProIIE and a Mk1 Custom years ago. I found the ProIIE more 'electric/active' sounding. Great with a pick. I preferred it.

Yes, that's what I did. Ordered direct from Japan.

Harry bought one of my basses. Great communications and a fast, hassle-free transaction. Thanks Harry.

New Fender Adam Clayton and Dee Dee Ramone Signatures
markorbit replied to NJE's topic in Bass Guitars
None of the above basses particularly interest me although if the AC had binding I would give it a second look and hope the signature is a bit scrawly so no one can tell who's it is :-). You are right about the random choice of some signature instruments. Why Herbie Flowers (with the SAME LPB Jazz bass for over 50 years !!) or JJ Burnel (Precision most of the way - and a trendsetter) haven't been acknowledged beats me. I think a 1959/60 LPB Jazz with U neck and stack knobs at a sensible price point would interest more people beyond the signature. -

NOW SOLD... A feeler as I need to fund some solar panels... offers welcome. I have a Ampeg Heritage B15 from the first and only limited European run. There were only 100 of these made, all with numbered plate and only a few trickled into the UK. These are not the same as the B15N widely available today which has a black fascia, is PCB based (I think) and costs around £2800. This Heritage B15 fliptop is handwired in the USA and uses high-quality hand-selected tubes. The amp had a retail price of £4995 and a street price of at least £4000 (average seemed to be around £4400). I currently have it boxed up so photos may take a few days. There are very light scuffs on the lid from shipping (annoying but it was like that when I got it). Depending on the light you may see these or not, they are not major at all and when the combo is in use they are of course on the underside of the lid which is no longer visble. It's really nothing at all but if you look closely they are there. Anyway, the amp sounds fantastic, looks cool as heck with the black checked tolex and can switch between 1964 or 1966 valve preamps before running to the valve power stage. It's totally tubelicious. It's got to be as close to the holy grail as it gets. It would be ideal for a recording studio. Here's the Ampeg blurb - http://www.ampeg.com.../heritage/b-15/ Not looking for any trades at the moment, thanks.

Managed to take a few new shots of the Ken Smith Black Tiger. Yes, it is a lovely work of art. I couldn't find any dings or marks at all. As I say it has had very little use and has never been played out. Included with the sale is all the case candy, KS strap, tools, warranty etc. Had lots of interest and trade possibilities... thanks for that.... would really prefer the cash as I'm not 100% on the direction I'm going basswise right now... although a Jazz will definately be coming into the family. -
