Debby?!? I thought the bass was Blue Dawn :confused
  2.
Does it matter? A pickguard is a pickguard
It certainly matters to me. If I am buying a vintage instrument as ALL original then every part of it should be unchanged or it should be labelled as not ALL original. If you take a 65 jazz worth £5000 and put a non original pickguard on it you devalue it by hundreds of pounds. This is the same but to a lesser degree. Steve
  3.
guys this is an original finish sunburst of late 70's , now they made a reproduction called "vintage sunburst" as someone said......i would really like you don't insult someone to be lying before to know how the things are.... the pickguard is true, can be not original..if it's really important in a music man. The finish is absolutely original...here an example of vintage sunburst on a stingray , very similar to mine http://www.gbase.com/Stores/Gear/GearDetai...px?Item=1815215
I am no expert but the finish looks original to me. Some more detailed shots of the neck pocket may help prove this. I don't understand above whether you are agreeing that the pickguard is non-original? In your first post you stated that everything was original - is this the case or not? Steve
after playing it extensivly over the weekend, and discovering my hand still isnt liking it and realising that the B is really never used as anything but an anchor, its back up. im more keen on seeing what trades i could be offered, again obviously 4 string orientated the prices are concrete, so if they are good for you, let your interest known thanks
Dude, Give the hand more stretching time before you make such a decision. Its only been a day since you withdrew it to try and stretch it out. Plus theres no way that you wanna give this bass away.
  5. That is absolutely stunning and not much gets me excited nowadays. I don't want to contemplate how it sounds and plays as I am pretty much all spent up but best of luck with the sale. Steve
  6. It was black. I bought the bass from the states, sold it to Marcus who had loads done to it to improve it and then it went to Peter. Was a great bass when I owned it so I bet its pretty hot now!! Steve

    ari - feedback

I am a bit late to the party as I have only just discovered this thread but I sold Ari a 5 String Sadowsky at the last bass bash and he paid on the spot and was a great guy to deal with. Steve
  8. For me its anything by level 42. Great playing but I have never 'got' the songs. Steve
  9.
Another +1.
And another. Very sad news. Steve
  10.
apparantly these kick seven shades out of sadowskys, although i think in definatly need to try one for the prices they are. seems a nice looking bass
Having owned both I would say they are a different shade to Sadowskys but not 'better'. There are pros and cons of both makes and which you prefer is really down to personal preference. As it happens I am using a Lakland at the moment instead of a Sadowsky or a Celinder. I am sure Igto's precision is fantastic as every Celinder I have seen has been. Flankers P Celinder is the nicest precision bass that I have ever played in every way. Steve
  11. I have owned two albeit briefly. They are fantastic basses, great playability and look gorgeous. Not quite sure why I sold them actually - although I could say that about most of the stuff I have sold Have a word with Mark (poptart) at bassdirect he has one as his main bass and stocks them. There is also a Roscoe forum on Talkbass. Steve
  12.
I wouldn't necessarily agree about how good the band is thing.... I've seen a lot of god awful bands go out for a lot of cash and some excellent musicians get paid a pittance for a NYE gig.... it's all about marketing and selling your band. I think there are a lot of bands selling themselves rather short...... Come on guys it's the biggest party night on the calendar!!
Agree with you in the main but what I am trying to say that is if your usual band charges £250 for a saturday night pub gig and you get £50 of that then as a rule of thumb you should expect about double for NY eve. As opposed to how good your band is maybe I should have said how financially succesful it is. Steve
  13. Depends how good your band is. Double your usual charge is about right in my experience. Steve
  14. Andy kindly purchased my F bass in a smooth and easy transaction. Very easy to deal with and highly recommended. Steve
  15.
OK, the provocation was: let's make the "For sale" section what it says on the tin. Anybody could have done opinion/tip exchange, price research and other soul-searching/mulling over in other sections BEFORE, so that when the axe is placed up for sale, the vendor has ALREADY clear in mind that the bass is DEFINITELY up for sale (first) and at what price (second). This is what the thread was about. In the "For sale" section I would prefer the brutal honesty of vendors stating clearly "if it does not sale within X, it will go back under the bed or to the 'bay". Please note this was a general comment and not with anybody particular in mind. Obviously the idea did not prove very popular (this is the mother of all the euphemisms...) and I take notice, no problems, simple as that. Thanks to you all for replying and letting me know I was an isolated voice.
Fair play for coming back and responding in this manner, Thanks Steve
  16.
"Oh, I have gigged it today and I have decided it is going nowhere..." "Oh, it was only a feeler, I was in two minds, so it is not up for sale anymore...." Nothing is more irritating than this!!! Reading between the lines: nobody offered what I had in mind, so I 'll have to stick with it for the time being, but I will use a silly excuse... It's free!! I can!! I would dare to suggest to moderators to charge a fee for putting a bass up for sale, e-bay style. No "feelers" allowed: either it is up for sale at a specific price or it is not. If you do not know what to charge, do some research first and avoid some embarrassment. I know this is a great community but the "For sale" section is the "For sale" section, not the smoochy-smoochy, "oh, lovely!!!! but I am skint " waste of bandwidth!!! Anywhere else you pay to advertise. If you DEFINITELY want to sell it, be prepared and that's it!! Too many "I will try here, or it will go to e-bay" transformed into "... well, after all, I did not know what I was doing....". Very well, maybe there should be a charge upfront, to clear in advance the mind of people just testing the water. Attracted buyers will visit the site anyway. In a few words: too many taking advantage of the (free) system. Please do not flood my mail box with comments, I will not reply. If you want to add something, please do in the open thread. And before anybody asks: yes I have sold a bass here, a cheap one, and if I had known in advance about all the timewasters begging to reserve it for them for the next week/month, only to disappear in the blue yonder, I would have done otherwise. Surely not again. All the best to convinced sellers that WANT a change and go for it!! Thanx
I am going to answer this as I feel it 'could' be partially directed towards me as I have withdrawn a bass from sale today AND I mentioned that I may eBay it. Firstly, When I wanted to sell it my thoughts were to sell it here and see what happened, To give the members here, many of whom I know, first shout on a fantastic bass. The price would, as always, have been negotiable and believe it or not I would rather sell to someone I know on here for LESS than I could get on eBay (within reason obviously). Had I got desperate I would then have either eBayed it or took it to the Gallery to sell for me. BUT and this is the main point if I had had interest or agreed to sell it to somebody or taken a deposit I would then have honoured this regardless and not withdrawn it. Not sure if you are annoyed as you have been part way through a deal that has fell through and if so then to some degree I can sympathise but your post looks like you just want to have a moan for the sake of it. You would probably win more friends and have more people listen to your gripes if you had made a few more posts before this one rather than browsing the forums, presumably to see what bargains you could get from the for sale forum As to your issue with the timewasters that is a real shame. If you stay around the forum you will get to know the forum and make good friends and know people who you can trust and I like to think there are a group of many members who I would hold stuff for. There are many people on here who I have met and would let have something I was selling before I have had any money back such is my trust in them so for every negative experience there is a positive one. I think people may have given you less of a negative response to your original post if you had contributed more to the forum and were a known member. Steve
  17.
I can't imagine ever getting rid of a Celinder. Steve, whatever happened to that amazing red Valenti jazz that you got from richardd ?
Pete - it went to Waveydavy as part of one of our numerous deals about 6 months ago. I don't think he still has it but I could be wrong. Steve
  18. I am withdrawing this. Done 3 or 4 gigs with it and this is going nowhere ;-)
  19.
What's the difference between a BN5 & the studio here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=17441&st=0 ?
Not sure really but I did a search on talkbass on 'BN5 AND studio' and there are a number of threads discussing this. I don't think the studio is made anymore. In one thread a couple of people said the Studio was more precision type sounding and the BN5 more jazz like but that could be complete rubbish. Anyway, lets BUMP this beauty back up to the top. I know F basses aren't as well known over here as in the US but this is a seriously good price for this bass. First to see and play with the money will buy this bass. Steve
  20.
I've had one and I would get this one... but... I need money for an arrival that is on the horizon. (PS any pics?)
Child or bass
  21. No interest so it must be overpriced in the current market. Down to £1100 plus p&P or whatever. Steve
  22.
Steve, are you Sadowsky-free at present? I'm shocked to hear you've got all 5 strings!!
Hi Mark! yes Sadowksy free at the moment. Not sure how long that will last as they are great basses. The 5 string thing has been a gradual process of trial and error but I am enjoying them now and they are really useful in the covers band for a variety of reasons! Steve
  23.
another celinder? If this does go to Ebay, I'll be watching the auction with a lot of interest.
I am still in two minds as to whether to sell so won't be rushing it on to eBay just yet. Its something that I 'should' sell rather than 'want' to sell so we will see what happens! Steve
