2.
Id be really gutted if it was the laptop, having just replaced the last one I broke by standing on it!! lol Its the mixer thats buggered. I've tried just plugging the bass into the line in socket but dont seem to be able to get a signal, not sure why. Thats why I was thinking along the lines of a usb interface. or even firewire. but I would like a drum machine as well. which was why I liked the look of the Boss Micro BR. 4 track recorder, with built in drum machine and effects.
Aah, ok, my mistake. The Boss Micro BR does look nice but I have no experience with it, I am sure others will have other options for you as well. If it were me I would probably get a usb interface and keep everything in one place on the laptop but what works for me may not work for you. Another possibility may be the Tascam MP player thingy that some people have on the forum? Steve
3. Hi Mike, Whats given up the ghost? Your laptop or the mixer? If you still have the laptop then you have more potential solutions I think. I have ditched my Tascam CD bass trainer in favour of my apple mac with garageband and itunes/the amazing slow downer software. I usually just play along with itunes unless I need to change the key or speed to a song and then I use the amazing slow downer. I would like a usb interface for the bass but at the moment I just go straight into the sound card and its reasonable. I can mix the different levels using garageband and itunes seperately. If you have a PC and not a mac there will be alternative software which you can use including free basic drum machines. Hope this helps, Steve

7.
It is indeed, it'll be May 3rd then as the college is shut (if we use NCN at all) on a Sunday. I've enclosed a couple of pictures I took last night, I'm informed that the room will be tidy, a class had literally just walked out when I got there. There is an echo in the room, put plenty of power etc. I also popped into the Grovesnor (which is open btw and very nice!!) and took one of their function room. Grovesnor said they'd let us have the room all day for £50, they cannot do Sat 3rd May but we could do Sunday 4th. NCN would be £40, Mrs M is going to work on the times if need be. Or there was the other suggestion from Budget with regards to the pub in Hucknall. So: Grovesnor - has stairs but the room is good NCN - all on one floor but has the "echo"
I will go with whatever you decide. I think as you are taking the time and trouble to sort this out you should get to choose where it is personally. Steve
8. With regards to regrets and what might have beens I always find a speech that Steve Jobs (Apple Computers) gave as highly inspirational and how all that we do can be right for us. Anyone who is interested can read it here http://news-service.stanford.edu/news/2005...obs-061505.html and hopefully it may be of some interest or comfort. Steve
9. My Laney K50B Bass Combo. First amp I ever had in 1979 and kept it since which is suprising for me. It just sits in the garage doing nothing....I must try it out again soon actually!! Steve
10. Nottingham isn't too far from me and I am free that date so hopefully may be able to get there so add me as well. Steve
11.
What basses did you guys favour? Mark
Top bass for me was CK's Celinder Jazz. Super playable with immense tone. I was also impressed with the Markbass F1 Head and all the Bergy gear that Mark from Bassdirect bought along. Urb's Boss looper was very interesting as well. I had never really 'got' what they did before but Mike was kind enough to show me what it was capable of in the right hands!! Also, I 'played' the double bass that Roger (apologies if I have your name wrong, so many faces) bought along and enjoyed that. PS a big thanks to Woodenshirt also for the sarnies!! Steve
12. I have just got back as well. Great afternoon and a big thanks to the organisers. Just when I thought I was gas free.......

16. Sounds like a great experience. I reckon its when things like this happen that you can really progress and learn from it. Good on you for having a go! Steve
17. Thanks Guys, I gigged with it tonight and it sounded great. Someone in the crowd came up at the end and comment on the bass tone which is quite unusual! Trouble is I now want a Celinder Jazz........ Steve
18.
Thought you was gonna be exclusively 5 strings. You should have kept the Jazz.
My plans change a lot! Although the Jazz was lovely I really thought it would be best to let it go to someone who would use it more regularly as its a lot of money to have tied up in one bass really. I was looking at possibly getting a 5 string Sadowsky from the Gallery when down there to soften the blow but once I played the Celinder that was that! The latest plan is to sell my 5 string Sadowsky metro and just keep a Nordy VJ5 but we will see what materialises. Steve
19.
Is this the one from The Gallery? Very tasty.
Yes thats the one! Very impressed so far so hopefully its a keeper but you know GAS!! Steve
20. More Pics, if anyone wants more detailed ones please let me know. I am open to sensible offers on this as its just not being used.
21. Picked this up yesterday and can't put it down!! Steve
22. Nice Collection there! I am not usually a fan of singlecuts but your Sei looks stunning!! Steve
23.
Steve, did you pick up that Celinder P at the Gallery?
Yes I got it today (or yesterday really as its now tomorrow). I had never played a Celinder before and was pretty blown away by it. Just took it to band rehearsal and it sounds huge. Have you seen and played it? To my mind they are worth the money when I compare them to other basses I have played. I have changed the strings to roundwounds and adjusted the string height very slightly and it plays itself almost. Very impressed with the slim neck. Steve
24. Ideally I would keep this but as I keep buying gear some things have to go so back for sale. Will bring it along to the bash on sunday if anyone wants to try it out. Not really interested in trades at the moment. Thanks Steve
