1. Thats an interesting read, thanks for that. Finland looks beautiful too!
2. Madis bought my Mesa Walkabout me which I shipped to Estonia for him. I was a little wary of this but he made the deal easy by paying very quickly and being a superb communicator. Thanks Madis! Steve
3.
I've seen a few like this and I'd say that it is original, finished age in very odd ways!
My gut feel on this is that it IS original too. I am easily fooled so who knows but it looks like a cracking bass to me! Steve
4.
What makes this any better (as a player) than any other '62 Reissue? Is it the fact that it's from the Fender Custom Shop? How good are these FCS instruments? Or to put it another way, what actually makes a good Precision?
Theres been some debate before about Fender Custom shop instruments. I can only speak from personal experience but the 1970 Custom Shop limited edition jazz that I owned (that was owned also by Flanker and is now back with Marcus) was one of the nicest instruments I have ever played in every way. So from my experience they are fantastic but others opinions may differ :-) Steve
5. I have played Flankers F bass on a couple of seperate occasions and its a very special bass. I really struggle getting a 5 string that suits me in terms of playability but Flankers was really nice and sounded fantastic and is extremely versatile also. Steve
6. I must admit I didn't think it was transferreable which is a shame. This is now ON HOLD pending a sale. Any changes will get back to y'all Steve
7. I should have. I bought this about 12 months ago from PMT in Birmingham and they will have records of the sale etc and I probably still have the receipt somewhere. Are you sure its transferrable? Thanks Steve
8. My Mesa walkabout for sale would be ideal. You can remove the head and run with other cabs for larger venues and its a loud 300W, Its in the for sale section if you are interested :-) Steve
9. Trades Considered on this as follows: EBS Microbass II plus cash my way MarkBass F1 Head plus cash my way MarkBass LM II plus cash my way. Quality Preamp plus cash my/your way Thanks Steve
10. Hi, Its black. Never seen a purple one but I know they do do different colours. I am a little reluctant to ship overseas but will do based on the following conditions: 1) Buyer pays for shipping and insurance (approx £150 to most of Europe but will be charged at actual cost). 2) In the event of a problem I will refund within 7 days as long as the amp is returned in the condition it left AND the buyer pays for shipping BOTH ways. I think this is fair. Would ideally prefer local collection and trial etc. Thanks Steve
11. BUMP. Will sell for £600 NO OFFERS. Buyer collects if at all possible from North Birmingham. I need the cash to fund my new rig bits and pieces and this is now redundant. Thanks Steve
12. How or what he builds is irrelevant its the finished product that has been DESIGNED and QC checked that is important. If he overcharged for what he did no one would buy them. At the end of the day you don't have to like Sadowsky basses, they certainly aren't for everyone but to disregard them as parts basses is a shame. What an individual pays for a bass is down to what they want it for and their expectations. The Metro's and NYC basses should be identical but for whatever reason there is a subtle 2-3% in my opinion thats better about the NYC's. Lets not forget that the more you pay the less improvement you get also. You can buy a £1000 that may sound twice as good as a £200 one but a £10,000 probably wont sound twice as good as a £2000 if you get my point. Its all down to what level of playability and tone you want against what you are prepared to pay for it in my opinion. Steve
well they were originally based on Dimazio jazz bass pickups, thats what he was using right up until he brought out his own brand which sound very similair. yea he doesnt actually build anything, all the parts are bought in. He may have some samples from the parts shops that he buys from, sure.
13.
We have to move onward, its NOT about ERBs,just coz I play one of the things...thats NOT what I am getting at,never was. Im saying as it stands the basic instrument,at the level of 'standard',that is going to have to move otherwise,we are going become history... I see that as physically changing, quite why anyones hostile to this I have no idea, but hey, change hurts.
We dont HAVE to move onwards at all? If in 50 years time something has replaced the bass guitar then so be it but in many forms of music there will be the need for low end. Why don't you just let things evolve and not worry about it? You seem to be demanding change when it will either happen or it won't. You are helping that change already by playing what you play. New musicians will play whatever instruments are around at the time and if in 50 years time that is a piano based instrument then so what really?
14.
Im used to idiots,ye Gods there are enough of them of this forum, but Im always coming across such conservatism in the Bass community to change and difference, its not just the anti ERB stance......thats to be accepted,it looks plain freaky compared to a limited range Bass, but nothing original or different is being done on a 4 string instrument unless you alternate tune in a savage fashion (ala Manring),and even then people cant get to grips at the possibility,or even allow the idea, of performing upon the instrument as a solo or 'solo-able' point of expression. Expression is easily suppressed by many factors, tradition, fear of ridicule, and of course our old friend ignorance. Seeing as nothing new,or at least ear catching,is being made, this is bad....I see this a VERY bad. There is only so long we can go on harking back at the old heros, its time to accept that traditions..not standards, but traditions...have to ...cease....even die out peacefully...all the arguements must end..the bar must be raised. It will take an awesome effort, changing the rule of guard....we are 'Guitarists' after all,and we have the abilities and freedom of expression, break free from the herd mentality, and when the spotlight shines on us...try to make the extra effort at your next gig, every little step....every little step.
I don't see that anyone is stopping you do whatever you want with your instrument. I can't see how your expression is being supressed, you have your instrument and you can make whatever music you like. Whether people like it or not is their choice. I think that you are labelling things to much. It should be all about the overall sound of whatevers being played whether by a 4 string bass in conjunction with drums and guitar, or an orchestra or an ERB. The role of each music maker is to play whats 'best' for the overall piece at the time. Of course the 'best' is subjective. Look at U2 as an example. Many people like them and there songwriting. I am sure Adam Clayton could play more technically challenging lines but if he started double thumping or tapping he would ruin the overall picture. Its about turning down your ego a little to fit in with the creative whole in my opinion. I am sure you may disagree :-) Steve
15.
I wouldnt get either basses, they are just 'parts' basses, sadowsky just screws the body and the neck plus hardware together. the parts come completely made and finished from places like Warmoth and Guitar Parts, so its a question of screwing a neck onto a body plus some fret work. Many will argue that he sets it up like a magician but you're paying 1000 dollars for the parts and 2000 dollars for the setup. Id rather pay 3000 dollars to Celinder or Sei to build me something by hand. Just my Opinion by the way.
I don't care how they are made or what out of. Its how they sound and play that justifies the cost relative to what you are prepared to pay. Your point above also takes no account of the Sadowsky pick ups and electronics which are unique to Sadowsky. Steve
16. Definately latish 66. I had a 66 with blocks. Steve
17. Apologies for messing around with this but its back for sale. I was thinking of selling it and keeping my EBS rig but realistically I won't be using it and its too good a bit of kit to not be used. I am open to sensible offers on this as stated. The only negative thing about this combo is that the fan is relatively noisy, theres threads galore about this on talkbass and some people have replaced the fan but it doesn't bother me enough to mess with it. On the plus side its a LOUD 300w and has a great parametric EQ system and the walkabout head is easily removed from the 12" 4 ohm cabinet to be used with other cabs as desired. Would prefer trial and pick up on this rather than postage. I am in North Birmingham. Thanks Steve
18. Hi Lee, No problems mate, thats the problem with internet forums and writing things down its easy to get the wrong of the stick. Hope you get a sale as they are cracking cabs and great value also. Steve
Hi steve Thanks for the reply, i totally misworded that ,it did sound like i was blaming you, and your right your s was a fantastic price someone did get a bargain, my apologies to you i didnt mean to cause offence, its the usual thing when you buy something new you can never expect to get anywhere near what you paid for it only what someones willing to pay. Once again my sincere apologies, ill think before i typoe next time. Lee, I wouldn't normally respond to this thread as what you sell a cab for is your business but I am the guy who recently sold the EBS cab. I don't want to derail your thread but you seem to be blaming me for the fact that EBS used prices aren't great. I bought my cab off eBay second hand 12 months ago for £350.00. I tried to sell it for the same price and had no interest. I then dropped the price to £320.00 and sold it quickly. There is one on eBay now with a start price of £350.00. Anyone with half a brain who sees your advert would check eBay so I don't think I am out of order by pointing this out. I feel that these cabs are worth a lot more and if yours is in exceptional condition you may get what you want for it and I hope you do but I certainly haven't set a precedent for giving EBS gear away. It is a great cab and I wish you all the best with your sale because someone will be very happy with it. Thanks Steve
19. A very pleasant way to spend a sunday afternoon :-) All of the gear on display was top notch but I was particularly impressed with the Bergy cabs, the Genz Benz head and also the Markbass F1. I had never seen a GB bass before and they seemed absolutely fantastic, BassFerrets fretless had some jaw dropping tones coming out of it through the various rig combinations that we tried. The EBS Gear also came out well in my opinion. I think when you get to this level of quality gear its not a case of something being better than something else its more down to what suits you personally. Steve
20.
Someone recently sold an ebs cab for nothing recently and i feel hes set a precedant which is a shame as mines practically brand new and im not prepared to give it away as i need the cash to buy another accugroove (im using a tri110 its great) mind you your right neo is the way forward.
Lee, I wouldn't normally respond to this thread as what you sell a cab for is your business but I am the guy who recently sold the EBS cab. 21.
I'll have the Jazz
Yours for £6000 !! Steve
22. Sorry Guys withdrawing this as I am selling something else.... Steve
23. Looking to sell this as I have something new coming in :-) Will get pics up later but just seeing if any interest in this. Its a loud 300W into a 12" 4 ohm speaker. The walkabout head is easily removed from the combo and can be used as a head in its own right, it has a lovely tube preamp and parametric EQ system. It has been gigged and so is not immaculate. It comes with a canvas type cover that offers some protection. Very occasionally the fan is quite noisy when you first turn the amp on. Turning it off and on again seems to sort this and it has never been enough of an issue for me to have it checked out etc but best to mention here. I know that Flanker sold one here for £650 recently so I am looking for similar but am open to offers as it has done a few gigs!! Thanks Steve
24. Bought an EBS NEO 1x10 off John and met in person. Lovely bloke and a pleasure to do business with! Steve
25. Sold Richard an EBS 4x10 Proline cab. As Flanker says, a pleasure to deal with! Steve
