Another bump before I pursue other avenues with this such as shipping it down to the Gallery or vintage and rare. Heres a link to a new one at Mansons which will cost you £2.5K http://www.mansons.co.uk/product_info.cfm?...FTOKEN=83730315 Thanks for any interest - I have all of the case candy, certificate, pick up covers, strap etc that came with the bass. Only thing marginally 'wrong' is a few scratches to the case. This will hold its price and go up in value. Plus its an awesome bass!! Steve

If you really aren't enjoying it then sell everything apart from one bass and a small practice amp. You never know when you will feel the urge again! Why not try starting your own function band? Steve
What bass is the custom shop? Jazz? Precision? Just for clarity for everyone else Si
Good question!! Its a jazz......remarkably like this one... http://www.fender.com/customshop/instrumen...rtno=9270000288 Steve

The Sadowsky Metro and the fretless jazz are sold/withdrawn respectively. Last one for sale is the fender custom shop.... Fender Custom shop 1970 jazz limited edition 1 of 100 only made. Its a stunning natural wood colour with maple neck and inlays. One was just on eBay for BIN of £1900 and starting at £1500 I think. I got this in a swap and it really is a hard decision as to whether to keep this or the sadowsky. I think this is more playeable but I prefer the tone of the sad but its marginal in both departments. It comes with a fender special cream LE case. I have gigged this bass but theres no damage to it that I can see. There are some scratches on the case which is a shame but they are meant to be used. I was going to ask £1400 for this but due to the slight case damage I will let go for around £1300. Would prefer anyone who is interested to come and try the bass rather than post where possible. I am based centrally in North Birmingham Any questions fire away. Not desperate to sell but I get in trouble if I have too many basses from my better half.... Thanks Steve
Agree with the majority should have set a reserve, i'll always remember Birdys vintage fender, £500 or something daft wasn't it, still that's ebay for you some you win some you loose.
Thanks for the memories...... I think it got closer to £600 almost and it had been refinned and refretboarded etc but was still a few hundred quid lite. You win some and you lose some. Sometimes you just want to move things on!!!
Buddhism.
+1 but also try changing your strings!
-
To answer the original question I have broken one string in about 20 years of playing and had no other problems BUT....depending on the gig can you take the risk? If you are getting well paid in a function band playing weddings and corporate gigs surely the professional thing to do is have a back up? If you are playin the crappy pub with 4 people in that you have played 100 times before then maybe restringing isnt an issue but for anything serious I take a back up. Mind you we even take a back up desk so maybe we are just over cautious!! Steve
An excellent right-hand exercise I've been doing of late is the 'I Feel Love' bassline (as done by Flea on the live at Slane album). root root octave octave 5th 5th minor 7th minor 7th (start at something like 5th fret D on A string). Try doing it alternate fingering then try it raking. When raked, the finger pattern reverses every other time through.
Whats the best way to approach the LEFT hand fingering on this exercise? Anyone got any preferences. Tricky! Steve

If you want a good exercise for this try playing saw her standing there by the beatles without raking and using alternate fingering. I find this hard enough to play when raking!! Steve
...................I would have thought the price was a bit too high personally - I tried the Sub passive & active [£150 & £250 paid], and neither of them sounded close to the Stingray although I did love the feel of the neck..
You got a passive sub for £150.00 That must go down as a massive bargain

Due to the imminent arrival of a 5 string metro this needs to be sold. Its a great playing great sounding jazz bass and I will be sorry to see it go. I have gigged it heavily and so its not in mint condition and there are some dings on it. Quite a few basschatters have played this bass and all have loved it. Anyway normally this would go for £1000 but due to the not perfect condition I am after £900 plus shipping. Will get pics up later. None of the dings are massive or really noticeable and in my opinion add character. Its oly white with tort pickguard. Not really interested in trades as its a case of one in one out at the moment. I am only selling this as its being replaced with another sadowsky. Thanks Steve

I owned this instrument and can vouch for the amazing sound it puts out. It's got wizard pick ups I believe and certainly looks the part for anyone wanting a new old fender!! Steve
Hi Guys, just putting out a feeler for this rare and outstanding instrument..... I'm sure many of you will know the standard of the instruments John makes, the attention to detail in making these instruments puts the fender custom shop (even the masterbuilds) to shame.... John Doesn't take orders for instruments any more so you'll be lucky to get one from him direct and they are the proverbial rocking horse do dah on the 2nd hand market..... I'm selling because I'm committing to 1 instrument for my live work and as it's a tribute situation i've got to go with an authentic instrument..... Also I've just spent a fortune doing up a bass and I still want some Simms Led's to finish it off.... This Bass rings like a piano and resonates like no modern bass i've had..... it's just like a great pre CBS Jazz !! here's the bass on the bravewood site.... it's in the same 10/10 condition as it was built in..... http://www.bravewoodguitars.co.uk/BlondeJtype60.html If anyone wants any further info or photo's then that's no problem, PM me, I'm offering it exclusively to the BassChat community for a week, if it's not sold here it'll go on ebay..... I'm really not looking for trades on any other instrument, but may consider a GK RB1001 mkII head or a RB 210 cab Cheers Mark
