1. Taken some more pics today. Without pick up covers or straplocks but rest assured they are all present and correct. Its a camera phone but not too bad and I am no Lord Lichfield. 2. Just out of interest where is the serial number on the Ray? I thought they were on the neckplate but I could be mistaken. Steve
 3.
I'd be interested to know how much you payed for her. I know V&R are known for hiking their prices a lot!! They had a really nice sounding '72 Jazz for £2,800, no pickup covers. Si
I paid over £5500. Maybe I could get one off ebay for £4000?!? I wanted the assurance that it was all original and hadn't been put together as a parts bass or made somewhere in the far East etc. If you check Gbase.com which is an American site you will see that the going rate there is about $10,000-11,000 for something similar and then you have to pay tax and shipping. As a bass its probably worth £2000 in terms of it matches Sadowskys and other high end basses, the rest is nostalgia and investment. One things for sure is that it will appreciate in value. I would be interested in what anyone on here thinks its worth. I won't change my price as I could sell it back to V&R for close to £5000 tomorrow and they will then sell it on for £6000 and it will sell, may just take 6 months. Thanks Steve
 4. I have played Lovecats and I think you are fairly close but not quite there. Can't remember without a bass to hand but the chorus has a couple of different notes that it slides up to for starters and the main riff I think you have done is only half right (the first half). I thought the main riff was... Main riff E—5-------------------5--3 A--------7—5—3--------- E—1-----------------3----- A--------5—3—2-2-------- X2 no lyrics X4 with lyrics Or similar....let me know what you think as it could be me thats wrong !
 5. Thanks for all the comments guys, I will try and get some decent pics done in the next few days. I will be sorry to sell her (is she a she?) but just glad that I had the chance to own her and play her for a while.
 6.
The bass isn't bad, but I love the sofa
Not mine unfortunately :-) The pics I have shown are the pro ones from V&R this time last year. I will do some more and post but I am sure anyone who wants this bass would come and view in person. I don't really expect to sell it on this forum but you never know and its worth offering it here first as I am not in a mad rush to sell - its just something that I should move on and let someone else enjoy. Steve
 7.
Wow!!! £5k is a hell of a lot of money... Even for a Bass
Thank heavens its not a 1960 stackknob or we would be looking at £30k :-) EDIT: in fact thank goodness its sunburst so its 'only' £5.5K - If it was a rarer colour we would be looking at even more!!! Steve
 8. Reluctant sale really but I am just not using this and need some money for mundane things like cars and house repairs! I bought it from V&R 12 months ago so am pretty sure of its provenance so read on.... It was previously owned by Jimmy Nail and appears in the film 'Still Crazy' which is quite cool. Its a 65 in sunburst which is pretty worn in all the right places. Its 100% original apart from it 'may' have had a refret and theres an extra hole in the pickguard for some reason. The guys at V&R weren't sure if it had been refretted but they said it is likely that it has. The extra hole is relatively minor. I don't think the case is original but its from the same period. The only other thing is minor which is the string tree is missing from the headstock. Its got both ashtrays etc etc. The tone pot is a little noisy when turned but nothing too worry about. Its got a very distinctive patch of wear above the bridge pick up which is how I am sure that it was in the film. Its a sort of worn away bit of wood where a thumb has been I think. One other minor point is the serial number isn't an 'L' series one. The neck is dated Oct 65. Its a transition bass with the oval tuners and dots on the neck with no binding. The neck is really thin at the top, similar to a Geddy Lee jazz. It sounds and plays really really good. Flanker and Funkmunky have played this and both really liked it. I could have got one cheaper no doubt than if I had bought from somewhere other than V&R but I wanted to know it was the real deal and have some comeback. I have a certificate valuing it at £6500 for insurance purposes and stating its provenance and the fact it was in the film etc. To cut a long story short I paid over £5500 for it and would expect to lose a little possibly but would be looking at offers around £5500 or it would be better to hang onto it as it will go up in value. I could sell it back to V&R for around 5K and they would then sell on for £6K plus I imagine but would prefer to see if anyone on here wants it. Will upload some pics later. I have played many many high end basses and this is really up there with all of them. Heres a link to Jimmy Nail with it in the film to be going on with http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1800019391/photo/34305 Thanks Steve
 9.
Thoght it was obvious - my bad. If you ain't a pro then you are a con.
Does the con relate to how much you earn in your day job or how much out of music? Steve
 10. Thats an interesting read, thanks for that. Finland looks beautiful too!
 11. Madis bought my Mesa Walkabout me which I shipped to Estonia for him. I was a little wary of this but he made the deal easy by paying very quickly and being a superb communicator. Thanks Madis! Steve

 13.
I've seen a few like this and I'd say that it is original, finished age in very odd ways!
My gut feel on this is that it IS original too. I am easily fooled so who knows but it looks like a cracking bass to me! Steve
 14.
What makes this any better (as a player) than any other '62 Reissue? Is it the fact that it's from the Fender Custom Shop? How good are these FCS instruments? Or to put it another way, what actually makes a good Precision?
Theres been some debate before about Fender Custom shop instruments. I can only speak from personal experience but the 1970 Custom Shop limited edition jazz that I owned (that was owned also by Flanker and is now back with Marcus) was one of the nicest instruments I have ever played in every way. So from my experience they are fantastic but others opinions may differ :-) Steve
 15. I have played Flankers F bass on a couple of seperate occasions and its a very special bass. I really struggle getting a 5 string that suits me in terms of playability but Flankers was really nice and sounded fantastic and is extremely versatile also. Steve
 16. I must admit I didn't think it was transferreable which is a shame. This is now ON HOLD pending a sale. Any changes will get back to y'all Steve
 17. I should have. I bought this about 12 months ago from PMT in Birmingham and they will have records of the sale etc and I probably still have the receipt somewhere. Are you sure its transferrable? Thanks Steve
 18. My Mesa walkabout for sale would be ideal. You can remove the head and run with other cabs for larger venues and its a loud 300W, Its in the for sale section if you are interested :-) Steve
 19. Trades Considered on this as follows: EBS Microbass II plus cash my way MarkBass F1 Head plus cash my way MarkBass LM II plus cash my way. Quality Preamp plus cash my/your way Thanks Steve
 20. Hi, Its black. Never seen a purple one but I know they do do different colours. I am a little reluctant to ship overseas but will do based on the following conditions: 1) Buyer pays for shipping and insurance (approx £150 to most of Europe but will be charged at actual cost). 2) In the event of a problem I will refund within 7 days as long as the amp is returned in the condition it left AND the buyer pays for shipping BOTH ways. I think this is fair. Would ideally prefer local collection and trial etc. Thanks Steve
 21. BUMP. Will sell for £600 NO OFFERS. Buyer collects if at all possible from North Birmingham. I need the cash to fund my new rig bits and pieces and this is now redundant. Thanks Steve
 22. How or what he builds is irrelevant its the finished product that has been DESIGNED and QC checked that is important. If he overcharged for what he did no one would buy them. At the end of the day you don't have to like Sadowsky basses, they certainly aren't for everyone but to disregard them as parts basses is a shame. What an individual pays for a bass is down to what they want it for and their expectations. The Metro's and NYC basses should be identical but for whatever reason there is a subtle 2-3% in my opinion thats better about the NYC's. Lets not forget that the more you pay the less improvement you get also. You can buy a £1000 that may sound twice as good as a £200 one but a £10,000 probably wont sound twice as good as a £2000 if you get my point. Its all down to what level of playability and tone you want against what you are prepared to pay for it in my opinion. Steve
well they were originally based on Dimazio jazz bass pickups, thats what he was using right up until he brought out his own brand which sound very similair. yea he doesnt actually build anything, all the parts are bought in. He may have some samples from the parts shops that he buys from, sure.
23.
We have to move onward, its NOT about ERBs,just coz I play one of the things...thats NOT what I am getting at,never was. Im saying as it stands the basic instrument,at the level of 'standard',that is going to have to move otherwise,we are going become history... I see that as physically changing, quite why anyones hostile to this I have no idea, but hey, change hurts.
We dont HAVE to move onwards at all? If in 50 years time something has replaced the bass guitar then so be it but in many forms of music there will be the need for low end. Why don't you just let things evolve and not worry about it? You seem to be demanding change when it will either happen or it won't. You are helping that change already by playing what you play. New musicians will play whatever instruments are around at the time and if in 50 years time that is a piano based instrument then so what really?
 24.
Im used to idiots,ye Gods there are enough of them of this forum, but Im always coming across such conservatism in the Bass community to change and difference, its not just the anti ERB stance......thats to be accepted,it looks plain freaky compared to a limited range Bass, but nothing original or different is being done on a 4 string instrument unless you alternate tune in a savage fashion (ala Manring),and even then people cant get to grips at the possibility,or even allow the idea, of performing upon the instrument as a solo or 'solo-able' point of expression. Expression is easily suppressed by many factors, tradition, fear of ridicule, and of course our old friend ignorance. Seeing as nothing new,or at least ear catching,is being made, this is bad....I see this a VERY bad. There is only so long we can go on harking back at the old heros, its time to accept that traditions..not standards, but traditions...have to ...cease....even die out peacefully...all the arguements must end..the bar must be raised. It will take an awesome effort, changing the rule of guard....we are 'Guitarists' after all,and we have the abilities and freedom of expression, break free from the herd mentality, and when the spotlight shines on us...try to make the extra effort at your next gig, every little step....every little step.
I don't see that anyone is stopping you do whatever you want with your instrument. I can't see how your expression is being supressed, you have your instrument and you can make whatever music you like. Whether people like it or not is their choice. I think that you are labelling things to much. It should be all about the overall sound of whatevers being played whether by a 4 string bass in conjunction with drums and guitar, or an orchestra or an ERB. The role of each music maker is to play whats 'best' for the overall piece at the time. Of course the 'best' is subjective. Look at U2 as an example. Many people like them and there songwriting. I am sure Adam Clayton could play more technically challenging lines but if he started double thumping or tapping he would ruin the overall picture. Its about turning down your ego a little to fit in with the creative whole in my opinion. I am sure you may disagree :-) Steve
 25.
I wouldnt get either basses, they are just 'parts' basses, sadowsky just screws the body and the neck plus hardware together. the parts come completely made and finished from places like Warmoth and Guitar Parts, so its a question of screwing a neck onto a body plus some fret work. Many will argue that he sets it up like a magician but you're paying 1000 dollars for the parts and 2000 dollars for the setup. Id rather pay 3000 dollars to Celinder or Sei to build me something by hand. Just my Opinion by the way.
I don't care how they are made or what out of. Its how they sound and play that justifies the cost relative to what you are prepared to pay. Your point above also takes no account of the Sadowsky pick ups and electronics which are unique to Sadowsky. Steve
