2. As part of the plan to single handedly boost the economy by spending as much money as I can I have just received this beauty from Mark at Bass Direct... Its a lovely Nordy VJ5 - Specs: • Ash Body • Salmon Pink Nitro Finish • Bird's Eye Fingerboard • Blocks and binding with vintage tint • Pearloid Pickguard • Nordstrand Big Singles pickups • New Nordstrand 2 band eq with passive tone • Nordy "N" Gig Bag Lovely playing instrument and very well put together and massive tones. The new Nordy 2 band preamp is really flexible. Can't wait to get gigging with this and will report back later.... Steve
  3. Lovely bass Ian. Its got that classic 70's vibe and with the additions you are planning should sound massive! Steve
  4.
So, I have been helping a friend buy his first rig. He's just started out in the world of gigging - still to do his first gig, but for a budget of just £600 (OK, I went a tiny bit over budget), I think I have done him well. What do you reckon? (and the cabs were brand new!) He can't wait to get out there now! He wanted me to gig it tonight (smallish venue approx 80-100 people) so he could hear what is sounded like - so I obliged... and you know what, it sang beautifully. He's chuffed... and so am I! (for that sort of money, it would do me and I had already decided I was going to get the head for myself to use with the TD650 if he wasn't keen... hmm... stereo rigs are lovely if not a tad over the top!) Those Yamahas cabs are pretty good you know - well surprised at how well they perform at such a bargain price... and the HD350 seems to have endless amounts of power. It must be the most efficient 300w head out there!
So you managed to get the HD 350 in the end! Nice one, bet it sounds great!

Hi Steve, Nice design! Did you do it yourself and if so what did you use? Steve
  6. As requested pics in the GB Porn Thread! Steve

  8.
Can't put it down? Ha ha! Drawn in! When's the Nordy due?
Hopefully sometime this week, its definately on its way!!
  9.
So how was the first night with the GB? I suppose you'll learn more about it at your rehearsal tomorrow. I'm looking forward to seeing it at El Royale tomorrow night. I'll get you up so you can play it through my rig at volume!
Very Good, been playing through headphones as everyones in bed but I can't put it down. I have been playing my 4 string for last couple of months so there are a few clangers but am hoping to gig with it saturday night but we will see! I can't get over how good condition it is in considering it is about 4 years old and was Jo's main bass which he gigged and used a lot. He really has looked after it well. Yea tomorrow will be good. Thats all I need now - GAS for an EBS rig I cant see me replacing the Berg stuff any time soon so I should be ok!
  10.
Just check the avatars on this page. Sad isn't it?
I wonder if Johnny Lager realises he has spelt Goodfellow wrong on his?!!? Steve
  11.
ok slapped wrist, you know where im coming from tho!
Absolutely and I think you and Toasted were right to be apprehensive. Like I say I hope Jo comes onto the forum. Flanker tells me that he is an awesome player but unfortunately I didn't get chance to hear him as we did the deal at the motorway services and we would have looked a little odd Steve
  12. How many GB's have been built any ideas? Back on topic I would just like to put in a good word for Fingerz who came in for some stick for selling this bass after just registering. He was great to deal with, a lovely guy and I would recommend him no problem. Hopefully he will come back and use the forum. Steve
  13.
baby Birdy "youre de man" congrats and me and ebs-f and the rest etal see some piccy porn soon man, welcome to the most exclusive of clubs!
Cheers Andy - its pretty damn impressive!! I will get some pics up soon. Steve
  14.
C'mon then whose the proud and wifeless new member of the GB club?
Come to daddy....
  15.
Wesfinn, it's reasonably heavy but not incredibly so. With a comfort strap it's been no problem for me at all.
Played this tonight. Lovely bass and I wouldn't describe it as reasonably heavy. I would guess its around 9.5 - 10 lbs. It's certainly not heavy enough to make the weight a key factor in whether you would buy it or not. Looks nicer in the flesh as well!! Steve
  16. Very Tempting. This is a lovely bass, have a bump on me!
  17.
I dont have another FS thread? do I? anyway hope this is all over bass is sold, happy/lucky new owner, u cant beat a 70s Jazz for that even tone, this one heaves heaps of tone evenly across the strings, fab sound.
Cool, A happy ending :-)
  18.
again i think this may be aimed at me but not sure
Nope you are being paranoid :-) I think that Mike is referring to Andy's other for sale thread and nothing to do with yours. I could be wrong of course. Get some quality pics on your thread and it will sell as quickly as this. Looks a nice bass so best of luck with your sale, Steve
  19.
Im amazed how much abuse I get from advertising something which is not "picture perfect" is this not a general FS sale forum, does everything have to be mint condition?
On the contrary I think it looks great as it is which is why I advised against a refin. I think this will get snapped up. EDIT: Removed my query about abuse. Steve
  20. Seriously, I wouldn't have that refinned. I think due to its age you would knock hundreds of pounds in value off it as its pretty much vintage now. Steve
  21. I've got a DB750 and a HS210 and it sounds amazing :-)
I was just thinking about simultaneous equations the other day in the shower. Yes, I'm a geek. Finally a chance to use them in real life. Let's take B as the value of the bass without a neck. G is the value of the graphite neck. W the wooden, and S is shipping. So: B+G = 800 B+W+S = 800 B+W+G = 900 We can see straight away that W+S=G, and that W=100. Also G-S=100, and so 100+S=G. This gives us B+S=700 And therefore S=100, B=600, W=100 and G=100. Therefore we can speculate that the bass, plus both necks, plus shipping, B+W+G+S will be £1000. Which is a bargain IMO. I really enjoyed GCSE maths, all those years ago. Lovely bass, btw. I'm sure it'll sell soon.
This doesn't look right to me? If we assume that the shipping is £30 then it doesn't come to £1000 but £930 and you can apportion B, G and W differently? Will have a think in more detail..... Steve
  23. Just completed another easy deal with Rich. Nice cup of coffee and some friendly chat as usual. Highly recommended. Steve
  24.
It is a 73 p bass very worn out, I had intended to keep the neck and have it made lined fretless. I intended to have the body sprayed fiesta red and fit the existing hardware and some vintage pickups a la pino paladino. looking at the bass, I think that due to the extra routing that has been done, the body is worth little, the scratchplate has an extra hole where the 3rd pot was fitted and so has lost value and ive torn out the pickups so the bass is currently in bits and i'm trying to recoup some money. regards mark
Cool, thanks for the reply. Steve
  25.
Need to raise some funds for a new bass so will be removing various parts from my 1973 fender precision and will be selling in due course if anyone is interested. First up for grabs now is the neck plate from a 1960's precision bass. the serial number is 826** This date can be verified on the Fender website. If anyone is interested I have a 73 P bass that i will be breaking up and selling as spares. The neck is very aged but origonal but has a new nut fitted and requires three frets re fretting(18.19 and20) the body is origonal but needs a refinish and has been routed to cater for an additional bridge pickup The tuning keys and bridge are both origonal and in full working order. Regards Mark
Hi Mark, Why don't you sell it as a whole bass? Steve
