1.
I admit to having been in Gaerwen several times between 2004 and 2009
I really can't imagine why
2. Amazing, no one visits Gaerwen it's not exactly a holiday resort - I would've like to meet up if I'd known you were around. We do have hardware CDs, 3 albums so far with another due out soon. PM me your address and I'll send them to you. They're also on i-Tunes, spotify etc. And here: http://www.mixcloud.com/tacsiband/
3.
Contacted eBay through all means I can. I'm not sure if he ended it early as it was a few hours after I last looked at it and it was due to end before I finished work. Anyway I got a message from eBay saying I won and needed to pay etc although no point since he won't sell it me anyway. I'm bothered but not that bothered. I've ended stuff early, but not sure how he has done it. As when I have no one has been a winner, maybe because it had less than 24 hours to the end time, which I believe eBay put on to stop people doing exactly this. If I pay for it, which I still can. Will he not loose out, ebay fees and PayPal fees to pay along with having to give me back the full amount?
It sounds like it went to the end of the auction, otherwise ebay wouldn't have sent you an invoice. They would have told you your bid was cancelled if he ended the auction early. If you pay and he refunds you, his fees will be refunded too. I would advise you to contact him and remind him he has sold it to you, but you understand his mistake and ask what his buy it now price is. Friendly negotiation may still lead to an amicable outcome. If he did end the auction early then you have no claim of ownership and ebay should not have sent an invoice. Looking at the listing page, it seems the auction was not ended early and the winning bidder got it for £230.
4. I will be watching - I like the show and I've discovered some new acts on there as well as seeing old favourites.
5. My you tube playlist:
6. Bought 2 sets of strings from Paul, they arrived in good order faster than a fast thing on a particularly fast day. He's one of the good guys, deal in confidence.
7. The foam core Flite cabs aren't particularly expensive and they are easily the lightest 15" cabs on the market afaik. I don't remember seeing any bracing inside and they don't feel too delicate, mine have been thrown around a bit and show no signs of damage after years of use. I don't know the price of foam core panels and there may be some compromise in sound and strength, but I think anyone producing these cabs in the UK would find a ready market due to the incredible weight saving.
8. Thanks Bert - that pub is my local, just round the corner to where I live! We've even played a gig there, what a coincidence.......... if you believe in such things Your review is very helpful and gives me a lot of food for thought. We have another album recorded and almost ready for release, I will upload it for your appraisal if you don't mind.
9. The problem with evaluating speakers is that it's hard to know whether it is the driver or the cab that is producing the sound - it's the interaction of both. It's similar to how a bass sounds different depending on the strings it's fitted with. I don't think I could say whether a driver was neo or ceramic by listening alone, but I don't like distortion and I don't like heavy cabs so my preference is neo.
10. Thanks RR, a lot of people have a problem with the vocals and I know what you mean. The singer isn't actually a singer, he's a poet who is known for solo spoken word stuff and he writes all our lyrics in both languages. He doesn't come over well in recordings, but he's better at gigs, where his humour and charisma come over better. I like him because he's authentic and not faking an American accent or copying anyone else, but I know what you mean about the timbre. The backing vocals help a bit and we may look into adding more in future.
11. Thanks Bert, I know you love the Welsh - do you still live in that van on South Stack? Glad you like it Truckstop, I know the recording quality isn't great - we wanted a lo-fi acoustic sound and non of us are really into recording or mixing. Diolch yn fawr Dad - I think I agree with your analysis, not sure since I don't speak Welsh (or Polish) Here's the google translation of your review: I'm listening to it now, it's very good. You have chosen to sound soft, very nice compared to a lot of debris 'in your face' contributions often. I can not comment to much on the biting wit and a keen sense of observation in the texts more politically-inspired, as I do not understand Polish, but it's more my loss, I guess. The play and the production is excellent, the best all so if it is done at home ..! Congratulations, I particularly like the drums and percu 'relaxed', and flute-playing is good. Voice ..? It is not your strongest suite, but you do not discrace yourself, backing vocals and the occasional help keep the dream credible. Overall performance comendable; wish you well (... and I'm not a little jealous, honest ...). Thumb well and truly up, and hat offed appropriate. Well done, everyone. PS: Problem with Track 7; refused to play. Just sayin '.
12. This is my band's latest album, recorded in my front room on budget gear. Honest reviews welcome, however critical. https://soundcloud.com/tacsiband/sets/heddiw-a-fory Thanks to anyone who can be bothered Steve. PS It's in Welsh
13. I had a new one in the late '70s with two 4x12s - worse rig I ever had, it sounded like mush.
14. I sold an EB-0 to Norton on here and he modified it and I think had a thread about it. You could PM him for details.

16.
I like composites very much - my mech eng final year thesis was in them.
Did you try making any bass cabs with them, braced or otherwise and if so, what were your conclusions? I know Flite have not been successful as a business, but I am so pleased with mine, I can't help wondering why the idea hasn't taken off.
17.
For me it's never been about the weight
On that bombshell...
18.
I spent quite a while looking into foam-core ply and other composite methods. But increasing panel stiffness through added thickness still leaves you with a single vibrating membrane with a fundamental frequency and a series of overtones - adding braces breaks that panel up into multiple segments. Spacing the bracing cleverly can make all the fundamentals occur at different frequencies.
Thanks for the explanation Alex, which makes sense even to me! It would be interesting to compare the Flite cabs to the BFs loaded with the same drivers.
19. I still don't understand why foam core panels are not used by any commercial cab manufacturers other than Flite.
20. Good vids Louis, thanks for the links. Steve.
21. Cheers Si and thanks for the big up I've never intellectualised bass playing and I must admit your explanation goes over my head. My playing is very basic and I've never had a lesson apart from the recent advent of youtube tutorials. For the OP I'd recommend practise, practise and more practise along with finding a good teacher, but also to find your own voice and to play with other musicians, particularly a good drummer.
22. Some people seem to have a naturally funky approach to playing and it's just there in the fingers almost from day one. I've been playing for 35 years and it's sadly still not there for me. I play reggae which suits a less funky style, but I'm still envious of more funky players. This video lesson is very good at showing how to develop the funk, especially from 9 minutes, where Scott explains ghost notes:
23. Alex, have you considered using foam core ply like that used in the Flite cabs? I'm not questioning your production methods which are well renowned, I just wonder if you have looked at alternatives and whether you are aware of the foam core models.
24. Thanks Mr. Foxen, some interesting reading there.
