1.
It is used, you can get Fearful/fearless cabs made like that. Also Nidacore ones. And the barefaced ply is dual density, so has different engineering properties from standard ply.
Great - can you post links to the other manufacturers making cabs from un-braced foam core panels please? I can't find anything on line, but I'm very interested to see anyone else doing it, especially in the UK.
 2.
If they are a plywood sandwich with foam in the middle, that does sound good on paper.
I'm surprised no one else is using the idea.
 3. I use one or sometimes two 15" cabs made by Flite and loaded with Eminence neo kappalite drivers. I think they are made from un-braced thin ply with a foam core originally developed for the aerospace industry, but I don't know the details. They are incredibly lightweight, yet sturdy and they sound great to my ears compared to many other cabs I have owned and played through, including Ashdown, Bergantino, Trace, Ampeg, Aguilar, Acoustic, Epifani and others I can't remember. I play reggae, so I like a very deep, clean tone and these cabs provide that whilst weighing less than a BF compact. I have had mine a few years and I have played plenty of gigs in various locations and never noticed any ringing, buzzing, chuffing or distortion, despite the cabs being very small with a tiny port and a huge inset handle. I'm sure they shouldn't sound so good on paper, but they work for me and all those who have used them - that's not to say they would suit everyone.

 5. Mr. Clark is a diamond geeza as they say down his way - honest and no messing. Strings arrived super fast, can't wait to try them...
 6. I posted this link last week, but it seems to have vanished. The festival never got off the ground anyway and there is another Jazz festival in Brighton not associated with this AFAIK.

 9. Very nice, those 3 single coils should give a lot of options tone wise and a great dub tone from the neck pick up.

 11. Brilliant, loved it Thanks for the link, I never heard this band before and I love them. Very authentic and yer pal plays a mean one drop.
 12. This is the best MG video on youtube, if not THE best video on youtube full stop:
 13.
What would make you think that basschat's survival is in question?
I was under the impression that the fees were introduced as an alternative to closing the forum due to it's running costs. If not - why were they introduced?
 14. There are various ways that web sites attract revenue, but we are going a bit OT now. Some suggestions specific to the OP are, a membership fee, advertising and/or commission on sales. Perhaps members could be offered the choice of no fee to read posts, or a small annual fee to allow them to post and trade on the site.
 15. Perhaps a membership fee of say £1.00 per year would help BC survive? Just a thought, shoot me down in flames if you must.........
 16.
People should to an extent be able to say what they want providing it's put across in a polite manner but I can't help feeling the detractors of the new system should instead look elsewhere to sell instead of begrudging the new system publicly.
I have not seen anyone being impolite, (apart from in Conan's post above) and those that do not like the new system are doing exactly what you suggest - hence, (at least in part) the decline the OP refers to. I have never begrudged the fees publicly or privately, but their effect is obvious so why can't we discuss it without being made to feel like traitors? Is it not even slightly possible that the new system is not working as well as envisaged and there may be a better alternative? It is disturbing to see those brave enough to admit they don't like the fees being ganged up on by those that do, simply for holding a different opinion and calling the 96% of basschatters who did not donate under the old system 'twats' is not very polite or helpful to the debate. Skank - it's a relief to know we are on the same side, which is to see BC thrive as a place we all feel welcome to share our views openly
 17.
Worth remembering that the fee was introduced because only 4% of sales generated a donation. If more of us had slipped a few quid in the kitty, then the fees wouldn't have been needed. Fact is, Ped and Kiwi were funding the forum out of their own pockets while many sellers were benefitting financially or otherwise. Apart from being unsustainable, it was also entirely unfair. The Dark Lord made the splendid point that switching from free to fee has a pronounced effect on internet-based activity. And this would be a predictable outcome if we were talking about a forum owned by a large media company. But this is a privately-owned, community driven platform and I would hope that we'd be a bit more relaxed and understanding about the issue. Sure, it's a pain and I can understand how it might impact more on casual, infrequent traders, newbs or the financially-challenged. I don't want to rain on the parade but some have very visibly gone above and beyond the cause when it comes to criticising this change. Perhaps some are disproportionately exercised by events and - I say this respectfully - should reflect on the simple choice between paid-for ads and the disappearance of the forum. Perhaps others have an unconnected axe to grind with the ownership in which case they might be happier elsewhere on forums more suited to their specialist needs and interests.
I don't know if you're having a go at me here or not, but I would like to make it clear that I have never criticised the introduction of fees. I only tried to offer some possible explanations for the decline in trading and selling in answer to the OP. Those people that have criticised the fees are entitled to their opinion and should not have to suffer the jibes of other members who hold a different view. The fact is there are a significant number of members who do not like the fees and they will not list items or visit the site as often. I suggested a commission based fee as a possible alternative and I think it could work with the good will of the membership, if it was made compulsory instead of the previous voluntary donation. Some people would abuse it, but I believe the majority would react well and it is easier to pay when you have just sold something than before hand when your item may not sell at all.
 18.
Fine, you're obviously the expert, although you might want to take a look at a better disguise for insults than sticking a smiley face on the end of the sentence.
I am very sorry you took this as an insult, it wasn't meant that way at all and the smiley was meant to show that. I am not an expert, I just disagreed with you and you may find I'm not alone in that - it isn't personal though and it would be a shame if this descends into an argument. My views and suggestions are just that and you are free to ignore them if you so wish. Peace man

 20.
The recession is hitting every part of every market, either directly or indirectly. Basschat isn't exempt from that. By common business practise you mean 'it's not the same as Ebay/Gumtree' I presume? The thing that is being missed here is that Ebay/Gumtree and so forth all have hundreds or thousands of employees and £M's worth of infrastructure to provide them with ability to work in the way they do. We don't.
The recession is not hitting every part of every market, in fact many business are booming, especially those that are able to adapt and work with consumers, rather than alienate them. Ebay/Gumtree started small and grew by adopting a business model that appealed to their users - not by burying their heads in the sand and blaming the recession. I am not trying to cause an argument, just simply putting some alternative views across, if you refuse to read the writing on the wall, fair enough
 21.
I'm pretty sure that if we had implemented fees 'pre recession', we'd not be having this discussion now.
But you didn't and we are I do not agree that the recession is a significant factor and there is no evidence to show that in any of the above posts. Some people have come out and said why they are selling elsewhere and it is not because of the recession - they simply don't like up front fees and they are not unusual in that, which may be why it is not common business practise.
 22.
I sold just one bass on BC and the £20 was under half what it would have cost me on ebay.
But it would have cost you almost nothing if it hadn't sold on ebay - still £20 here if it sells or not. The £20 fee favours those selling high value items, but not someone selling a £60 bass for example.
