  1. Martin Owen, from Owen Electronics, was my guy... he repaired a few pedals for me back in 2017-2018. After a quick search, looks like his website no longer exists... His business email was: [email protected] Not very helpful, but I will follow this thread as I will also need pedals looked at down the line and without Martin, I am not sure who to go to either.
  2. Forgot to mention that the general rule of thumb with the Meatbox, and other variants like the Mantis Density Hulk, has always been to max out the controls and let the pedal do its magic via the PA. Mantis even released the version with the EQ knobs inside the casing as users tend to run the thing maxed out anyways. Beware, you can fry a speaker and even a power amp section if you are not careful! There is so much low end content that amps struggle, hence the PA + Subs approach.
  3. I can't answer for the noise you're experiencing, but regarding the Meatbox itself, I have always found it behaves differently to a regular octave pedal. I have always used mine on a clean parallel signal that is split from my compressor and goes straight to a DI and to FOH. Never in line with my amp or other effects. The intent behind the Meatbox, or at least the meta that Juan Alderete popularised, is to give you that ultra low bass extension that pushes the subs in a venue. Emulating the range of a 808 synth. The eq controls, as far as I recall by memory, were around 30Hz and 60Hz (I could be wrong), which will make any amp sweat a little if you are pushing them. This is essentially killing all your headroom too. Maybe the perceived volume drop is based around the frequencies that are boosted when the pedal is engaged. Not sure if you have access to a second amp or a PA system, but if you can split the signal into two separate rigs, you will really be able to balance your main sound and the sub accordingly.

  6. Janek just posted the below on his YouTube channel. They have managed to secure a venue in North London, in Dalston, on the 1st of June. Tickets on sale, I bought mine just now and with the exchange from US to GBP it comes to around Β£35.

  9. Shame it's been cancelled. Currently watching Janek Gwizdala's latest video regarding the cancellation and the fact that him and Ian Martin Allison are still looking at doing something in London. I hope they do manage to put something together, I would definitely get a ticket to see them both.
  10. Curious to try out LUNA. I have been hesitant about it as I have been on Logic for years (and ProTools way before, I learned on ProTools 7/8 many moons ago).
  11. Option paralysis is definitely a thing when you have a generous amount of UAD plugins. I also do try to limit myself, and try to build a channel strip for each instrument/vocal going in. Funny enough, I have also upgraded my rig with an 8-channel ADAT as my 2-channel Apollo was not enough in some scenarios. I do like the fact that you can still load plugins onto the ADAT channels and get a flavour out of them too. In today's "in the box" workflow, I do like to commit to tape sometimes (with a separate clean DI tone as a backup) as it makes things more interesting when committing to a sound.

  13. Hi there! I have been using the UAD Apollo ecosystem for a few years and wondered what other bassists like using in their digital signal flow. I have had great results running my P-basses through my A-Designs REDDI and then into the Apollo, using the industry-standard Neve 1073 plugin and then into the DBX 160 or the 1176 compressor emulation for a great all-round sound. I do like other preamp and eq options within the UAD range too. The amp simulations are also pretty good for in-the-box production, and I do not need to piss the neighbours off late at night if I want to get an Ampeg 8x10 sound onto a track 🀣 What are your favourite signal chains? Would love to see what everyone else is doing 🀘
  14. Really cool basses these. I have a trans red one that used to belong to Scott Whitley, he modded it to have a 3-way, Vol + Tone. They have a really cool sound with both pups on, almost Alembic'ish in character IMHO, and the body shape is soooo cool. GLWTS!
