1.
Sell the P and buy a Squier VM Fretless
+1 on the Squier. I have one and it's a really nice bass out of the box.
2. Totally agree with the OP and specially about the new Squiers. I have the fretless P-Bass that was great out of the box, super light and really loud for a passive bass. I decided to mod it to my specs, but just because I am a little picky too, and attached an All Parts fretted J neck and a KiOgon wiring kit. The bass has greatly improved, but the stock version was very well put together and priced at only £299! Squier is catching up with Fender and I would not hesitate to buy a modern one versus a pre-2008 MIM Fender standard.
3. For the price of the work done, you could probably pay a little more on top and have a custom ACG built to your specs.
4. Does anyone know if Warwick sell replacement necks? This could make a great bitsa at an affordable price (if Warwick's necks are affordable).
5. Hi guys, Thomann has the "Volo" in stock for just over £600. http://www.thomann.de/gb/ibanez_btb33_ntf.htm I would go for it if it had a SR or even an ATK body, but I just do not like the BTB shape at all...
6. Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. I know CNC routers are very expensive and I cannot justify the price of one. A pin router with a template, like the old Fender´s may be a possible alternative. I am going to do further research as I am very interested. Keep the comments coming!
7. Hi, where are you based? (Using mobile version). Cheers, Byron.
8. Hi y'all, Question oriented more to luthiers and amateur builders. I am currently attending Guitar Building evening classes at the London Metropolitan University but they focus only on hand made acoustics, which I am really enjoying and has become an amazing learning experience. They do have an industrial CNC machine and I have seen several Telecaster bodies and builds in the workshops as it is part of their BSc degree but as mentioned above, it is all hand made guitars focused and hardly any power tools are used (nice). I would like to hear from your experiences with CNC machines and what would you suggest. To give you a context, I would like to start working mostly on classic Fender shapes and move on from there. Cheers, Byron.
9. My MIM's are amazing basses and I will put them against any MIA or MIJ any day of the week. I have a Reggie Hamilton Sig Jazz Bass, RW Jazz Bass and a rare Precision Bass Jr (short-scale) and they all kick some serious butt.
10. Lovely P-Bass Chris! What's the neck like on this one? GLWTS!
11.
I'm planning on going for a creamery pickup for my P build when I get round to it!
Let us know how it sounds!
12. That P-bass looks amazing Si. Let us know how the CMT pup goes!
13.
I was about to suggest Entwistle I heard a P copy bass with the cheaper of the 2 Pup versions recently It sounded great, and I'm left wondering how much better the more expensive (PBXN?) pickup is EDIT: I say "more expensive" - but they're still really cheap, compared to most other makes
A lot of love on BC for Entwistle! Does anybody know the tonal qualities of a "regular" magnet Vs a Neodymium one? I have never played or heard a Neo pup.
14. Super quirky! A shame you cannot post. GLWTS!
15. Just found this on one of the classifieds in the forum regarding Squier CV pickups probably being made by Tonerider. If true, my current P-pup is a Tonerider. https://tidywords.wordpress.com/2013/03/12/tonerider-pickups-vs-squier-classic-vibe-pickups/
16.
Hiho,Wizard thumper is a good choice but seeing that the Wizard has retired hot rod would be the way to go. If they are the same as the originals then they will be good. Andy at Wizard was making pick ups for bare knuckles at one time but that,s another story.
A few Wizards got sold in the classifieds in the past year, but you never find what you need when you are looking for it... A friend of mine has a Thumper in his P-Bass and it has a great sound. I wonder too if HotRod's are the same?
17.
I've used Gemini Pickups in the past and they're great pickups and very nice to deal with http://www.geminipickups.co.uk/

Armstrong Pickups - Here make for some well known bass manufacturers and will make what you want.
Thanks for the links guys!
18.
Crash Magnetic Transducers are on hiatus at the mo I believe, although I have one of their Salt Bass Precision pups in a new build and initial impressions are very good Si
Hi Si, Yes, I have seen that they have taken "some time off" apparently. I really like the concepts they have for their guitar pickups, a shame they do not come up with some wacky bass pup designs. I really liked their video for the Jazz pickups, but not the P-Bass demo unfortunately. The should have gone with the same approach of the J video. I was tempted to go for a Crash pup, but with the hiatus news... bummer. How would you describe the SALT pup then?
19. Thanks guys, Bareknuckle was another option on my list too.
20. I Purchased an All-Parts rosewood J-Bass neck from Chris (Beedster). I had placed an advert on the WANTED section and he was kind enough to offer me a lovely neck (that fits incredibly well on my bista Squier body) for a really good price. Great communication, photographs and details from Chris during the process. The neck was packed extremely well and seemed like it was delivered from the manufacturer directly! I will certainly deal with Chris again in the future. Byron.
21. Hi y'all, Just writing to see if anyone has any suggestions on a good, all-rounder passive P-Bass pup. The instrument is a bitsa bass currently sporting a Squier VM (agathis body) with an All-parts rosewood jazz neck (purchased from Beedster!). I apologise if the topic has been discussed before, but I am looking for a specific product: I would like to see if you has tried any of the UK companies that are manufacturing pup's, as I would like to stay away from Seymour Duncan's, Fender, etc... as I already have basses equipped with such pups and want to try and support something built "locally". I have found several UK based companies such as Mojo Pickups, Crash Magnetic Transducers pickups, Catwhisker Pickups, Creamery pickups... There are also other UK companies that manufacture in Asia, such as Tonerider Pickups (I have a set of 50's single coils in my Strat and they are very nice). I understand that sound and perception is all down to the player and the equipment being used at that moment, but I am looking for general feedback from you. Thanks for your time! Cheers, Byron.
22. Y.O.B here too... soooo tempting! Lovely Peavey!
