3.
Total respect for giving it a go. I'm still in coward mode.
Results in, i know its only Grade 1 but 138/150 isnt too bad for a Double bassist who has the sum total muscial tallent of a rock and the breakdown they give you on the marking lets you know what you didnt do so strongly on. Dont be feart it is relatively painless, though some tuition would help most everyone in preping for it. though i wasn't keen to do them its a great benchmarking excersise.
4.
Good for a burial perhaps.
That was my first thought, wondering when Count Duckular was show up
5. Ressurection isnt just done by Lazarus. Done my Exam today, it wasnt a train wreck but my scales were pish. I can do 100 tonne lifts without breaking a sweat yet put me in a room with someone getting me to play scales ill start to shiver like a scared little girl Oh well next time i know whats coming and can prepare accordingly.
6.
What on earth would you have to do to get it into that condition? I've seen old garden tools in better condition than that.
7. Staggs are Piezo, unless there is some aftermarket tinkering going on.
8. there is also Preloved.co.uk and Scumtree This forum is quite a good place to get a good bass, its just a matter of when and where they show up.
9. Great tunes from Havana Swing.
10. I Just got my Bass back from Tom, all work carried out in good time and less than the price originally quoted. If you arrive by train he will probably meet you at the station and transport both you and the Bass to the workshop. He works on all stringed instruments. [email protected] Road End cottage, Aberdalgie, Perth . PH2 0QB 5 minutes from Perth. 01738638928 07816637470
11. Just makes a good alternative to getting a brass one. Im curious how much replacement parts would be or it might be a trip down to your local plumb centre.
12. Uh strange things afoot in the plumbing section wait a minute its a plastic trumpet, they even make trombone http://www.ptrumpet.com/
13. If you happen to find a Kolstein case http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6akhwYoRBk
14. Cheers Rabbie. Im not so worried about cost its the jump into the unknown with a new luthier. Aleast he has some positive feedback so im not so worried noe
15. Im taking Blondie away for MOT on the weekend to get some minor repairs done. Tom Murray is based nearby in Aberdalgie near Perth anyone had dealings with? Its 2 seams to reglue, new Bridge and redoing the endpin hole or fixing an endblock (which i hope it is not the latter). He has also been kind enough to meet me at the station although we have not agreed on a price but an approximation was around £170 Inc New bridge and a layup of 7-10 days of which i wll be concrete about unless he has a loaner. The job is still dependant on what i feel when i talk with the bloke and the price we agree on. oh dear, you'd swear that it was a child of mine... Input welcome.
16. Looks like fine sawdust mixed with PVA smear filled into the slots. That technique works fine in places where you dont see it but id never use it on a visible area.
17. Apart from you being 350 miles south and the inevitable divorce should i get another double bass. I would seriously consider this.

Hey mate another convert i got my bass of this forum, there is also ....scumtree if your lucky to find one on there. Try Preloved.co.uk or musicalchairs. as your in a more civilised area compared to North East Scotland you might even find a rental to use until you can buy. have fun
19. Ive been using this Soft case for about a year now.good similar to the one ^ up there. its sturdy and well padded, lots of handles and pockets. Have fun on your trip.
20. not exactly in the lower register but a good tune and good animation, its got a sense of humour.
21. Many words not much said
Have you read the Q and A's on that one? Classic...
although "hard insertable piece of musical history." made me raise an eyebrow
22. Uhhh, My Ma was a Hipster to the end so i heard the "new" stuff from the 80's through 90's early punk, and a bitty of grunge. Me old man he was more a Pink Floyd, T-Rex, ELO, Moody blues, Travelling Wilburies kinda bloke. My musical taste varies from them both as i listen to a massively wide variety though i have certainly taken some influence from them both and added to it.
