2. a thin bit of padding around the inside of the end pin hole, gotta go in through the panel on the back while the pin is full up
3. Tempting to get just to tinker with and muddle my way along with something other than the Double bass
4. Lazarus strikes back, Has anyone else had any experience with these horns?
5. I get the distinct feeling my situation will be changing, how does one fit practice in when progeny arrive? i seriously hadnt thought this whole pregnancy thing through. But yeah healthier living, and a less stressy environment help me practice. Now to just win lotto, buy an Island somewhere near Shetland so i can sandbag up and practice
6. I can see that Bass players finger tape being linked soon . i patched my blisters up with a dab of superglue once its broken to hold the skin together a bitty longer to allow the meat under to toughen a little.
7.
"Is that a 'cello?"
I get this one alot as i walk with my double bass on my back, I dont mind children asking but fully grown slackjawed adults makes me cringe. I pass several pubs and when asked the usual response is "no im the drummer/organist/clarinetist/etc(whatever springs to mind) i swear you can see the cogs turning. Put a Double bass on your back and everyone becomes a comedian.
8. ive got a Killer Twinkle twinkle little star and Tell Aunty Rhody
9. Changed from Unknown strings to D'Addario Helicore Orchestral Mediums after an E went BOOM!! Made a difference to my Arco, Much brighter and cleaner. I dont Pizz enough to know what changed there.
10.
I can barely play with either! Lol
Practice mate practice, blah blah blah makes perfect. Never seen let alone used a German pattern bow, Im still rockin the French cheap student wood bow.
11. Ok so going with Daddario Orchestral Mediums the strings pull a grand total of 266.9lbs...thats kinda worrying when its only a few inches off my face. Naaaahhhhh, was more a curiosity as i was working with some Hydraulic cylinders n got to thinking about retained pressure and what would happen if it was charged
12. That seems too easy... But cheers for the info.
13. Evening all, Just a random question yet again from me, How does on work out the overall tension on the neck of the Double bass when in tune. Undoubtedly it will involve some physics and algebra, im ready to melt my mind. Cheers Owencf
14.
The G4M cases are enormous, so you need to consider how you'll be transporting the bass - if you use a softcase, you can fit the neck between the front seats of a regular hatchback, or tilt the passenger seat back and put the neck down into the footwell, if you use a hardcase, the added bulk of the case will make it physically impossible to do this. Mr Chalmers shows how it's done in this vid
Cheers Geoff and Subsonic, My Alto should get this in Never tried though
15.
Er...preppy?
I dont get it either sounds fine to me
16. This does sound WAAAAY better. My wife says its too preppy.. Cheers Owen
17. I use Nyman's bass rosin, it does not make much in the way of dust, quite hard and gives a decent bite. I got mine from Thomann when i picked up a few other bits.

Hope it helps Owencf
19. Ha i noticed this in Big Bad Voodoo Daddy "why Me" Film clip today. Here
20. Strings and rosin will bake your brain so many types varies with what your gonna do A stand for when the bass is at rest dependent on space, portability. I use a turtle case from Thomanns good padding and decent built also easy to pack the bass plenty of pockets...has wheels but straps do me if you have the physicality too hump the bass around. Ask your teacher/tutor what bow they would prefer you to use as some use French others German. If your going to be constantly using a bow better to get decent one. Im using a student brazilwood bow from Thomann though yita carbonfibers are rather popular. A comfortable stool if you can find one they can get expensive and awkward to transport.
21. Dont have kids but may yet happen. I was forced to learn that bloody wind instrument the recorder hated the damn thing and promptly forgot all of it when I went to secondary school. Along with most of my grammar. I think for myself and me own Like ecumenical matters let them make their own minds up and decide on what they want to learn. Only took 20 years for me to admit i wanted to learn music of some form. Always had something else to do or see ad ad nauseum
22. Good tunes when im in the car..my wife slides down the seat:D
23.
Thomann now stock the bass buggie if anyone is interested so a bit quicker than a US import and no import duty or paying the post office fees. I've just ordered one myself. 125 euros inc postage. Pete
Here for thomann's KCNC buggie
