Pint in Leeds

I would consider it apart from the prohibitive cost of transport to and fro ...about £300 for 2 return
2. Peckerheads and Badasses: Cherry Poppin Daddies: White teeth Black thoughts
3. could always spend a few weeks with a tutor or some such and see where the kinks are.
4. Another member of the Double bass family, welcome.
5.
You can also weave cloth into the strings - otherwise buy them some plugs and stand your ground !

Is this because of neighbours complaining? I'd go and talk to them and agree a time when you can practice, then they know. You may find having your practice time restricted makes your practice a lot more focused.
I live in a block of flats and i have arranged a time with the other tenants during the week from 1600-1900 and anytime during the day on weekends. it does focus my practice sessions although when you want to practice at 0400 you cant which really irritates me sometimes. Stand fast dont back down from practice because of anyone saying its too loud, just tell them to get some culture and enjoy the thumpin sound of a daddy bass.
6. Maybe subject tagging as they are created by the Poster, I know its in there and am guilty of never using it . it would probably be better than separating the Double bass mob into respective warring clans.
7.
I'll get killed for this, but I would say go for someone who actively plays jazz . If they have a classical background all to the good, but don't let them bog you down in bowing Simandl or you'll lose the will to live. / puts tin hat on /
Ok i have no background in music whatsoever but as it was explained to me if they teach only one style and are not open to other styles ...avoid. Although i want to start getting into Jazz or Blues im finding learning classical is providing me with a good base (no pun) to start from .
8.
You can tell they are serious by their listing of budget basses.
Call for pricing scares me stupid...HOW MUCH!! *Click* Yo fatgoogle, i use Nymans Bas (purple can) give me a nice pinch and its not to powdery. undoubtedly many other options will present themselves shortly
9. I do suppose that I could start doing my own small repairs. I do suppose that I could start doing my own small repairs. However as Ubassman suggested it might be a little more indepth than a quick fixMight have to look into a service for it.Might be strip down time.I guess that could cost some.
10. Yup, might be cheap and easy but luthiers arent abundant in aberdeenshire.
11. Hmmm i have just been giving my bass an eyeball over and found a seam opening in the left hand C bout See below the gap dont go all the way through but there is a small amount of splintering on the inside where the seam is letting loose. unable to take a photo at this point in time. I know it is a Laminated bass so pretty sturdy but its the only one ive got. Whats your thoughts?
12. Whilst i would LOVE to rehome it, The problem is both logistics and spending stuff, not to mention my beautiful wife would get a little crabby(er) if my collection went from 2 - 3. Though it does look loverly
13.
I started out playing e-bass, but could never quite get the sound I wanted. Then, one time, while watching the Rock Around the Clock movie, it all became clear how the sound was made... Marshall Lytle - a great guy and a great bass player - the upright bass world is poorer without him. http://www.lasvegass.../#axzz2Vp0o1g2x
This is sweet, seems to be a lack of gimmicky crap a plethora of artists use these days. Never thought about using a Bass as a sled..
14. Just saw this on youtube thought it was worth a bump. sounds crazy.
15.
Still hankering after an electric cello and maybe a Chapman Stick, but either of these will require some serious graft just to get a noise from them at all!
Ive never really got Cello, seems like a violin and a double bass decided to mate and that was a weird result. I like Chapman stick some really cool tunes come off them, though id never pick one up...im having a hard enough time with four strings Saw and heard my first Stick on the movie Dune Gurney halleck is "playing" it. Its actually Emmett with his arms sticking out past Patrick Stewart.
16. Porobably my Australian sense of humour. Thats not a bass, THIS! is a bass. Always get funny looks from guitar players who are carrying thiers slung on thier backs...MAN SIZE. Ive always liked the look and sound, opportunity never arose to learn till now
17. i dont have to worry much ..yet. This cat is a complete spaz! wife dont believe me that if it starts to claw my Double bass i'll turn it into strings.
18. [sub]Sweat on the Bass, no worse than beer or other bevvies with alcohol suspended within.[/sub] [sub]Not that I am at a stage that i can gig [/sub] [sub]Although my kitten called Misty (i call it furball) did smash itself into the endpin of my Double bass with a rather laughable, resonating THUD[/sub]
19. Removed, patched, sanded and forgotten.
20. Maybe Berrythebass could adapt his creation? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/205617-new-easy-fit-wheeled-cradle-wheelbass/ Someone has probably already suggested this before
21. ^ True that. Although i still use my Stagg in the wee hours to practice, I do prefer the Double bass.
22. Envy, You would be surprised how well a Double bass melds into a room. My wife no longer notices the bass in the lounge room now she is used to it.
23. Playing with a genuine stagg stand would be rather troublesome i would think, although as a stand it seems to work rather well. Collapsible, 8kg, sturdy and stable. best idea is as Pete said posture and getting used to the bass.
24. Nice, atleast it is repairable unlike the below which came from a...cheaper company Im just glad yours is in a condition which can be rectified
25. While someone else watches it? im not one who watches music gatherings on the screen, id rather go see em live. I put on Alien or some old good loud movie and practice not to mention the amount of mass produced rubbish thrust upon us by the likes of X-factor, the Voice....Idol . I was also mildly irritated by a major music retailer today when i was asking for something a little off the mainstream and was given a blank face followed by the remark "they cant be too good if we dont have them"... you have a plethora of sh*tty boy bands, hmm Why do i bother using highstreet retailers.
