1. I expect this to happen to my coffee table should i go on holidays and lend the flat to a mate.
2. yeah i made nice little loops so they stick out all pretty and colourful... im going to have to redo the D string as it seems to have made the tuning peg tight, might have just wrapped it the wrong way
3. Yasushi Ishii, Left foot trapped in a Sensual Seduction, Hellsing OST
4. D'Addario Helicore Orchestral Medium tension Blue with gold wrap at the Tail piece on all E = Light Green A = Black D = Gold G = Ruby/Dark Red Cat photobombs like a champ Now the question is to trim or not to?
5. Nice, Glad it worked out in the end after all the planning and worry its hard enough taking it on public transport half the time within the city.
6.
Hey, well done. I've bought the books and been swotting but haven't stuck my neck out and booked yet.
My Tutor did it for me I usually Aim to Misbehave but this time i will have to aim for merit as it reflects on my Tutor as well.
7.
I have one of the dreaded G4M basses which I picked up very cheaply (£250) and then spent £300 odd getting a new sound post, bridge and work on the nut and fretboard. New strings and It now sounds great and is easy to play. My guess is that any cheap mass produced bass will need money spent on it.
Bad experiences from G4M are common, and you ended up spending about the same as a cheap second hand preloved bass I was looking at the basses on G4M and got advice from this very helpful forum and found a Bass going on the Classified section here
8.
Though i am still learning the basics my tute knows i have no intention as yet to follow the grading process. He teaches for the most part classical and traditional styles, but seems alright with the whole not doing exams
Ahem Foot mouth insert said foot. Im booked for my ABRSM exam in June grade 1, well its better than i was 8 months ago as I had less than the sum musical talent of a rock. Still having fun and enjoying it none the less
9. My tutor would probably Freak haha Sounds Pretty good though, im assuming they are favouring the German for the Power? or is it more just what they learned on?
10. Even with a solid case i still wouldnt trust anyone with my kit, ive see how the baggage chuckers work in Heathrow 5. the idea of someone with a car heading over is a good one. If you had a screaming kid in a buggy it would be less hassle yet the bass would be less noise, take up less space and smell better.
11. Welcome to the Big side Jono. Im still rather new to Double bass and loving it. If you have questions please ask as the forums here are quite friendly and informative, especially if your just starting out. Keep an eye on the forums and you might find a good preloved Double bass.
12. This is pretty much what my Tutor says.
In order to learn diffiult passages, I play them again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again.
But sometimes there is a little rest and a movie then back to the Bass shaped grind stone.
13. But...But my Bass is female i mean seriously look at them curves
14. Afternoon folks, Im currently in Germany town called Rheine and wondering where is good for a double bassist to eye some new shiny bass and gear while im here.. And leads appreciated

16.
It would have been handy for England Cricket team in Australia.
HaHa nice one, could also be an oar
17.
You can also get this very thin tape which is designed to be wrapped around screw thread. When the screw is err screwed into the hole, the tape binds and provides more friction and also fills any small gaps there may have been before. I can't remember what its called but it is similar in principle to plumbers tape to water-seal screw threaded pipes.
PTFE (teflon) tape or a dab of superglue on the threads would do for a temporary fix. A new screw with a pointed end and opposite countersunk indent on the end pin is a pretty easy option to DIY
18. Though i dont gig ive been using a hercules stand. nice wide footprint and small outriggers but no way of securing the bass to the stand. its rather weighty and dont fold up much past in half size.
19.
If you get a clearance bass from a Scottish school, you can call yourself lucky if it's got a neck...
Yep Schools dont do music like they used too.
20. Damn thats one problem about being so far away from civilised areas...no deals to be had. im keeping an eye out for any of the local schools or uni doing a clearance or closures
21.
That's who I use too! Not the cheapest but good quality! I just carved a new top block with some maple that David sourced for me . By far the trickiest of all the blocks to make with its double corkscrew profiles. Will get some photos up here if that's of interest?
Looks like a good winter project mate. Out of curiosity about the scroll, Why a scroll or golden spiral are there any variations? Possibly along the lines of Figurehead on old boats.
22. My Wolf super ball is a Cello one i think its all dependent on the spike diameter at the point of fixing . I can do the grub screws up and it holds secure
23. Archimedes' principal. i can think of better ways of measuring the volume of my DB. but would require me taking it to work and using a CMM, but i havent been there that long to justify my curiosity. my boss is still getting used to my quirks
