1.
Ooh ooh ooh, had an email earlier, it's left Gedo and on it's way. Oh sh*t, must remember to play it cool, I'm a jazz cat now.
Much like mate
2. Hmm i have 3 white dots put into the side of the fingerboard by previous owner/owners, though i dont tend to use them. i guess its better not to to get used to the terrain.
3. Whoa...i know a bass is big but i forgot how big it gets when you add packaging.
4. HAHA nice one, my wife did the same it came out along the lines of " You wanted to learn an instrument so you chose the biggest bloody one around" "ofcourse dear".
5.
Pizz - pronounced Pitz? Didn't sound right on a fretted bass for some reason. That does sound like a rather lame excuse to give into gas, though...
Pizzicato pronounced Pitsi Kato, My tute is always correcting me on that haha just started learning to play pizz with a bow in my hand seems damn awkward Excuses excuses...you know youve always wanted too, go on buy a Real Bass feel the rumble of the deep side you wont regret it.
6. New album out soon from Cherry poppin daddies : White Teeth, Black thoughts. !
7. Yep Pizz, Uhh i play sitting down Umm mine sorta leans on my left knee, Fingerboard bro fingers go on it like Stingray said just practice with it, i just find it weird when i change back to the big bass as there is no body resting on you
8.
I'm pretty sure most art councils let you rent them if they have them available. I know someone that rents an upright bass for £12 a year...
That really depends, I know that Aberdeen City/shire do not have any Double bass for rent unless your in primary or secondary school. Dont know about other shires
9.
Buying a double bass is just like buying a car (interestingly enough they are pretty much valued about the same according to the spec ):- Spending around £40,000 ++ buys you a 'head turner', the porches and Ferraris of basses, the instrument we would buy if we won the lottery. Spending around £10,000 buys you the most amazing instrument that we all aspire to own one day Spending around £1,000 - £3,000 where its at for most bassists £500 -£1000 buys you a workhorse but don't expect it to drive quite like a £10k machine £300 maybe about the cheapest 'run around' that you will get , may have cracks, breaks, be a bit clunky - but hey you only paid £300 ! £100? Question - what would you expect the performance and quality of a car that you bought for £100 ( clapped out, about to fall to bits, hard to drive, beyond economical repair, etc) ...well expect the same from a £100 double bass ! You may be better off spending your £100 on hiring a reasonable DB and giving it your best shot with a half decent instrument !. Good luck with it !
Ive never thought about it that way. As for renting, if your in an area that you can rent one its usually a better idea till you can buy your own decent instrument. the places ive seen renting cover re-stringing and have insurance so always a plus there.
10. I don't think the fuzz would mind if it was in the original containers Although on that thought tiny containers packed with a block of resiny stuff does sound a little suspect
11. course not, that would be helpful, although im wondering what the impact on the bow would be having multiple types of rosin on it..
12.
So many brands. Shame there isn't a place you can get samples from!!
i do not doubt somone Intelligent and bright (not me organisational skills of a hand grenade) might start up a rosin trials thread similar to the Innovations string thread. also Nymans Bas rosin, it sticks and came recommended by my tute so no arguments, although in the future i might try others.
13. looks like its been chopped out of the deck its lying on and painted...badly.
14. Poor vid of Scott Owen of The Living End, at a show in Perth Australia. thier gigs are mental fun.
15. Once played Blackjack across the table from Phil Rudd. I was dropping $10 chips he was dropping considerably more.
16. took mine off, patched and sanded it Oh well.
17. I brought several items from them each time single items. Bass stand was slow to ship but that was only 3 days later than expected Upright bass case shipped the next day got to me within the week. No problems and very quick on queries. Although DHL are a royal pain cards saying attempted delivery and not having rung the door bell. not rocket science but Royal mail are just as bad.
18. Nice product, if i hadn't already brought a case with wheels i would buy one now.
19. Its amazing how close genious and insanity are related. thought about pneumatic wheels for a bit more cush?
20. I am getting a tiny bit of pain in my right hand when bowing, im putting it down to not having to grip it like a axe or a pick, and not being used to the fairy wand action So manly. It will likely diminish as i get used to the bow more. Apart from the slight tenderness in the tips of the fingers on my left all is well. Also Thank you Hector for the warm up PDF.
21. im learning to read and play at the same time only about 4 weeks in as well. things are starting to fall into place that mass of lines squiggles n dot to dot suop is starting to make sense. Dont rush it, remember its a new language your learning to speak and read small parts over and over till your used to seeing it and playing it then move on and go back and start over again.
