  1. Under The Bridge was my first but I used a book for that one, the first ones I learnt by ear were David Bowie's Slow Burn & Stars.
  2. They're very similar in some respects but I'd say the Shuttle is more refined & has more tone shaping value. The tube pre is a great addition for adding a touch of dirt. I doubt I'll ever use the preset switching though. That said the LM is a wonderful gigging amp with a nice full fat tone that fills any room I've used it in, its worked really well with my Genz cabs. Both are more than loud enough for my needs but there's more headroom with the Shuttle obviously due to its power. I think MarkBass & Genz heads have modestly rated their power as everyone I've heard has been loud!
  3. Absolutely, it drives the song along nicely, in both versions!
  4. I used to play with a band that insisted on playing War Pigs, I'd happily never play it again!
  5. Ok Ok, technically it's not new because obviously they're discontinued now but it's new to me. Second generation GB Shuttle & its absolutely brilliant, after stupidly letting my last one go I had to buy this for the price it was selling for! Very happy boy today! Might even use it at rehearsal tonight.....
  6. I haven't had my B3n long but I agree that some of the amp & cab emulations are quite nice, much nicer than I ever expected. That said, I won't be using them live anytime soon,
  7. Adaptability & choice overlap in this debate I think, I'm sure we can adapt to most things, different environment, vocation, relationships & so on, its part of the human condition & if forced upon us we will in time adapt. However, we do have a choice in whether or not we are prepared to make the effort to adapt, because let's face it, most people are creatures of habit & will resist change. It's how our brains work. I've said recently on here that I prefer 19mm spacing, its something I've grown comfortable with over the years, that doesn't mean I don't ever play my basses with narrower spacing. I will flat refuse to adapt to metal though, I'd rather eat my own fingers & pour cement down my ear holes before I play that poo 😜 no offense metal heads!
  8. Look up Bass Aerobics, it prescribes one exercise a week for a year & there's absolutely no need to wear Lycra unless you really want to!
  9. Love Foolosophy is nice to play live, I'm still having to pay attention to the timing but it sounds good.
  10. Ain't it! I bought it new for £220 I think & it'd been a while since I did anything like this so thought why not. It doesn't get out often because I prefer wide string spacing but when it does it always gets positive comments.
  11. Mines had a nip & a tuck, hydro-dip graphics, lacquered neck & dyed fretboard, hipshot bridge & string retainer & wired VVT.
  12. Bridge, pickups, string tree are the main differences then some of the earlier 1024/5's had lacquer on the necks. They're great basses & I think Yamaha have lost some of the essence with the new models.
  13. I enquired about buying 1000/2000 pickups direct from Yamaha a few years ago & they were crazy expensive! I think it was somewhere near £400 to replace both, I have since owned a 1024, 614, 300 (early 90's) & now a 425 & can honestly say there's not much difference between them. Can I ask why you think they need an upgrade? On my 425 I have removed the selector switch in favour of VVT & is opened it up to lots of tonal possibilities.
  14. Man this thread has pickled the think melon! Half the time I can't figure out exactly what the message you're trying to get across is! Your double slap thing hasn't changed the way the world see's or plays funk, in fact I'm sure the left hand could achieve similar results without lamping the thread off the truss rod, if it works for you great but I doubt very much that it will be a technique that we all rush to add to the musical toolbox. I will off course watch your ultimate funk hack video just to see if stinky poo gets real for me the very next day guaranteed, but experience tells me that there are no shortcuts & theory, regardless of who's theory it is is just that..... Theory! That's not meant to be scathing by the way, different strokes for different folks and all. P.s, if anyone could fill me in on the "gaming site" references if love to be educated!
  15. If ask him to define better! Really pick him apart & put him on the spot by asking why he thinks what I'm doing with the line he written isn't cutting the mustard. It would be very difficult for anyone to make recommendations on what you should try playing without first hearing what's going on harmonically with the song. But be assured, there's absolutely no reason why you can't groove the shiz out of four notes!
  16. Another option would be to wire it VVT, I did it to my 425 & it opens it up to more tonal variations!
  17. I'm happy to buy & sell here & have done many times, meetups to buy the odd Stingray here or there & swift trips down the M5 to find a Berg cab a new home. Think I even shipped abroad once. I did get stung by the doctor who shall remain nameless though, we all know how that went down! All in all it's a great place & it's nice to watch a forum grow, I think I joined BW in 2004 :-0
  18. Hydrodipped then clear lacquer, neck has a satin tinted lacquer too & a dyed fretboard. Got rid of the pickup selector in favour of VVT & stuck a hipshot bridge on. Looks, plays & sounds great but it's not light!
  19. I don't play mine much these days as I prefer a wider spacing but I too can vouch for the humble BB, great platform for pimping too if that's the kinda thing that blows your head back!

  21. Walsall/Wolverhampton West Midlands. Hands off until we decide 🤣
  22. All good input guys thank you. Part of me wants to give "contestant number three" a chance because I think he has some potential even though he's the least experienced I think he might sit in well if he can come out of his shell. Number one is a safe bet once he gets into playing again & has no other commitments. But then there's just something about number twos style that I like. We'll be discussing at length tomorrow!
  23. Thanks for all the input chaps, I think we're going to get them all back for a longer session!
  24. I think that's probably how it went Lozz, my only concern is that he might lack dynamics. We did Englishman in NY as one of the tracks & he played hard on that too, but again, the recording sounds good! Absolutely, we like to think we're quite steady & would like the new member to compliment the dynamic & not detract from it! Drummer number two occasionally deps for a band but was firm in saying that he'd commit fully to our trio, he wore in ears with a vocal trickle & I'm thinking that may be partly why he hits so hard. I've never used them so wouldn't know if they massively quieten things down? Agreed, we've been open in saying that we'd like to continue with one or two gigs a month with rehearsals only when required! A friend of mine said we should go for the one that's works somewhere cool & can get us free sh!t 🤣
