3. It wouldn't be difficult to make a regulator circuit to take one of the 18V outputs and drop it to a stabilised 12V.
  4.
The amp in the CMD121P is the same as the LMIII (or LMII depending on how old it is).
Cheers Mr Bus!
  5. The 25k is worth a punt. Quite often circuits will work perfectly well with a pot value changed by a factor of 2 either way - try it and see. Also if the only issue is the hole diameter in the top of the bass, you could always enlarge the existing hole using a tapered reamer.

    Which Flanger?
What kind of sound do you get from a flanger and how does it differ from a phaser?
Both produce moving 'notches' in the frequency spectrum. Chorus and flanger effects do this by delaying the signal by a short time (typically 2mS to 10mS) and mixing it with the dry signal. The delay is varied slightly - the speed or rate knob controls how fast this variation occurs. Flangers tend to operate at the lower end of the delay range, and feed some of the output back to the input. Phase shifters create a very short delay by passing the signal through an 'all-pass filter', basically a resistor-capacitor network. The difference here is that the time delay is frequency-dependent, so different frequencies get delayed by different amounts. Like flangers, they also usually have a feedback or regeneration control. Hope that helps! Note - my personal preference is for a good phaser.
  7.
Unless you're using rack fx (which very few of us do), I don't see the point of an fx loop.
Pah! FX loops are for wimps!
  8. I keep thinking about adding to my tiny bass heads stable (current occupancy: 1), and natural I dwell from time to time upon Markbass. So what is the closest equivalent head to the amp in the CMD121P combo?
  9. Sorry, these basses always looked to me like the spawn of the unholy union of MM Stingray and Parker Fly!
  10.
Lol, I'm just laughing at the fact that I never get any of your jokes
Back of the net! Actually no, that would be hideous.
  11. Just had a mildly brilliant idea - I will bring my Orange Valve Tester, so if you want your valves checked (whether in a head you're bringing, or loose spares etc), bring 'em over to me. You can find the full skinny here. Please note: (1) It won't test rectifier valves; (2) Valves must be tested from cold to avoid spurious results. 5 weeks to go!
  12.
My Dad had a Fender Bullet Guitar. It had a genuine USA Telecaster neck with Fender tuners but a cheap wooden body and pups. The body was a smaller version of a strat. They were aimed at beginners I think. Came in a nice hard case too
I had the Bullet Deluxe guitar - Tele neck and downsized plywood (ahem - 'laminate') body, 2 Strat-style single coils. I added a middle pickup and complicated switching options before I eventually sold it, having purchased an '85 MIJ Squier Tele (which I still own). Mine had a proper 6-way bridge, whereas on the cheaper models the bridge was formed by an upturn in the pickguard - really! I don't know whether any of the basses suffered that particular abomination. EDIT - I still have the case too! I removed some of the polystyrene foam behind the black fur material so that my Tele would fit. Ah those were the days...
  13.
Just look at what's happening with disco right now.
Better start strutting down the street whilst toting a can of paint
  14. Having owned and played both Korean and US models, there is not a lot in it. The feel of the neck is different, and the pots on the Korean model were not the best, but the range of on-board sound-shaping options is pretty much identical.
  15. What they all said. If you EQ in more bass before the RAT you'll just generate a more congested mid-range at the output; if you EQ after it, there probably won't be much bottom end left to boost. For a clean/dirty mix I would recommend TheGigRig's Wet Box - although it is described as letting you add delayed/chorused/whatever signal to your clean signal, it will work just as well mixing dirty with clean.
  16.
This is exactly what I found. The Midget was like a Jack Russell, small and snappy, the Compact like a labrador, round and warm-hearted. Together however, well it was obviously a Jackrador, the best of both. But I must admit, it`s easier to remove something than to add it, so the Midget may be a good idea. Plus, with Barefaceds amazing try for a month offer, it has to be the first port of call.
If by 'first' you mean '4-5 months down the line'...
  17. Funny, I am OK with it on guitars (I have 2 in SB finish) but I much prefer solid colours on basses - and don't even mention coffee-table timbers! EDIT - sorry, don't know why.
  18. There are also electro-mechanical devices such as the Kramer sustainer (fitted as neck pickup) and the e-Bow (hand-held). Boss used to make a distortion pedal that simulated feedback, but as it was manufactured in Japan it is now only available for silly money off eBay.
  19. I can hear them in Swindon, but that's with the windows open
  20.
Amp and cab matching makes a huge difference as well. Even using the same brand you can sometimes find certain cabs that work with certain amps and some that sound really nasty. There's also some amps that just seem to 'work' with whatever cab whilst others are incredibly 'picky'.
Now that sort of thing would be useful to know - which amps play nicely with any cab.
  21.
Whether sarcastic anticipation or not, I think this could prove useful to people! I would add but I personally don't have much of a definite idea myself, which is what gave me the idea for this thread
No sarcasm intended, but to quote the late great Frank Zappa: Talking about music is like fishing about architecture.
