  1. If it were my kid/grandson/grandaughter - I'd really consider investing for them in a decent year of birth bass (something from 2006 if they're 18). A USA Fender or Precision - or a bass in that ball park. Bit like premium bonds, except the bass will rise in value - and they'll have lots of fun playing it!
  2. He reached out to me after my initial comment
  3. Just to update. I messaged Will from Bass Bros, and the misunderstanding I had was cleared up
  4. There are some absolutely fantastic (young) musicians producing some great music these days. It's a great time to be a musician - there are so many channels to get your sound out there, the cream will rise to the top as it always has done.... And the price of gear... it's so easy and cheap to access great sounding equipment compared to when I was a lad.
  5. Not a commission sale, but I did sell a bass to Bass Bros before Xmas. There were some positives to the experience, but the episode left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth
  6. You had a lucky escape!
  7. Looks like a lovely guitar! Enjoy!!
  8. Reaper is great, it does everything I really need from a DAW... but on a Mac, you cannot argue with the value Logic brings to the table. I bought my copy in 2012, and since then haven't paid a bean more; but I get very frequent updates, and more high quality content & plugins than I could ever really consume. I paid £169 at the time, Reaper costs $60 - but only provides updates for 1 or 2 versions before you have to shell out for another licence. I would imagine over 11 years Logic is probably marginally cheaper on £ Horses for courses I guess
  9. Bought a Focusrite interface from Joe, smooth and prompt communication, posted quickly and arrived in tip-top condition faster than expected. Thanks Joe!!
  10. I have an MPC Live (which is the same machine under the skin just with more I/O and a battery for portability) and use it sometimes like you describe. It's great for that. Up to 8 Audio tracks - which is more than enough for a couple of Guitars & Bass. I haven't found any problems using the MPC like this. Most people use them to make 'hip-hop/trap beats' so that's what all the youtube video's will be geared towards.. I found it really intuitive to set up and use & only had to consult the manual a couple of times.
  11. My effort is a cover of Tom Misch's - It Runs Through Me recorded by my daughter and I earlier this year (she did the hard work on Guitar, and I played the bass and (terrible) piano line. It's a live looping thing done with an Akai MPC used like a loop pedal. Neither of us were brave enough to sing so you just have the instrumental to 'enjoy'
  12. Written by Ashford and Simpson.. Everything they touch turns to gold anyways, and with Diana singing just tops it off
  13. After a period of no GAS whatsoever, I'm getting a bit twitchy about the ISLA Instruments S2400 to augment my Drum machine arsenal & vintage Akai S900 Has anyone here tried one? or own one? The online reviews are rather positive (everyone seems to gush over it), but it would be good to hear from an actual owner if there are any cons to owning one
  14. I thought at first glance the OP was looking at new, but then if you're considering a fake 'ray - I take your point, you're unlikely to be in the market for a new 'un
  15. Can you tell me where you're buying Stingrays for £2k? - I'll buy one!
  16. Recorded today.. I don't think it's finished yet - hoping to get a 'real' sung vocal on there. Quite simply produced... Akai S900 handling drums and the EP/Chord sample, sequenced on my trusty Akai MPC 2000xl. The flute, sax and all other key parts played live from a Korg Triton. Bass is my EBMM Stingray with flats DI'd. All audio recorded into Logic Pro X, using only stock plugins. Inspiration, the 4 in the foreground look like they are heading home after a heavy night in the club as the sun rises..
  17. Love that black and maple. If I were in the market for a another 'ray, I'd bite their hand off
  18. I'd go an see a teacher for a couple of face to face lessons at the start, for no other reason than it's good to get the basics of your physical technique on the instrument. Once you have that down, you're much less likely to hurt yourself & can take the path of online/youtube/books/whatever floats your boat... There's bound to be someone in your neck of the woods that can set you on your journey
  19. Nextdoor (in my town) seems to be for closet racists and weirdos. One to avoid if you feel badly about FB groups -> the nextdoor mob will take you to another level!!
  20. For me the thing that makes me chuckle about FB groups/newbies seeking knowledge - especially the larger groups, is the people with relatively little knowledge of the subject in hand piling in and flooding the thread with bad advice (this is FB, not here!). But life is too short to react or get annoyed by it, so just scroll on
  21. MPC 2000xl - drum sequences EBMM Stingray 3EQ - bassline Korg Triton - EP chords Downloaded accapella for vox Everything played live (except the drum sequences) into Logic Pro X using a cheap Yamaha Mixer and an Audient Id14 interface Only stock Logic plugins.
  22. I decided to skip this purchase based on the comments. I found a 3/4" strip off a cheap Magic Eraser worked really well, slipped under the strings behind the bridge - happy days!!
  23. Has anybody tried this contraption https://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/products/gruv-gear-fump-bridge-side-bass-string-dampener?variant=45003427578150&currency=GBP Years ago I had this handy little fabric pad which I slipped under the strings on my Jazz (both the pad and the Jazz are now long lost) - was wondering if this would work in the same way?
