Awesome bass !

I've got a 96' MIK: really good bass. Perfect neck, one of the best i ever played, and a nice jazz sound with stock pickups.

One per instrument. 4 basses, 2 guitars.

Exactly the same feeling. Except the bass sound that i don't really like, even if it suits perfectly the song.

To me, a musician is someone who makes music, whatever instrument (or anything that can be used as an instrument) he uses to do it. The difference would be more between a musician and an artist. The artist is a different animal, with an active creation side which is not always there for the musician.

Keeley bassist. Perfect if you like transparent compressor. The only thing i add permanently between bass and amp.

My first bass line was... on guitar. That was the first time i ever took an instrument: the old beaten guitar from my father. And the first thing i've ever tried to play by ear was the bassline of "Scatterling of Africa" from Johnny Clegg. As i wanted to learn guitar, I became guitar player for 7 years, before falling definitely into bass. I've understood way after this first try that it was "a bass line". That was 2 weeks ago. Our jazz trio with a reader. We did it as a single event project: mix music and text reading. The guy is a professional; his main gig is to read in public as "the man who reads everything". You give him a text (from book, songs, ads, Tv program, newspaper, ... anything you want) and he reads it live with his artistic interpretation. It was an awesome experience for both 4 of us and we have decided to continue together; as a side project of the jazz quartet we already have with a sax player. Pics of our better gig to date:

I went to five, after several years on a warwick corvette 4, with a nice warwick thumb. Then i sold the four and tought the 5 was MY bass. I played it exclusively for 2 years. I enjoyed it but then came a strange feeling that my playing slowly becoming sterile, stucked in a "vertical" way as if i had to play only in a four frets area, and couldn't expand it on the rest of the neck. Then one day, i took a 4 from a friend too noodle with and then came the light: suddenly i felt free and my left hand started to move on the horizontal highway. That sounds strange but it is. I sold the thumb, had a nice Cort artisan B4 and never looked behind. That was more than 10 years ago.

Great album with a very musical use of slapping, especially on this tune. Then it's also a matter of taste. I saw Marcus on his last tour. That was a blast, but i found Marcus repeat himself in slap thing, the same impression than others in this thread. Perhaps it's me and start to be boring by Marcus...
