1. They do want to gig but they don't know it. Gawd the energy you get from a great crowd... It beats sex.
2. Wow. How did this become a pro/anti Barefaced thread then? Please guys... knock it off? Jeigenbass, like you I have been on this quest for portable cabs, preferably one cab that can "do it all". You see, combining two cabs and then planning to only use one of those two for small gigs means your amp will be working at 8 ohms, which in my opinion is meh. There are several factors that decide the portability of a cabinet. Weight of course being the primary one. The shape of the cab however also becomes pretty vital. A 1x15 or 2x10 isn't gonna be very tall. You will have to bend towards the ground to lift it up and to toss it into the car. The latter was for me the reason to go look for a one lightweight but tall cab solution. I ended up looking just at vertically stacked 2x12" 4ohm cabs. Over the years I have been playing through various combinations of cabinets. TE 4x10 and 2x15 cabs, SWR 4x10, 2x10, 1x18 and 1x15 cabs, Eden 2x12 and several others. Of these the TE 2x15 was the easiest to lug around as it had casters and handles which allowed me to roll it around and tilt it into the car/onto stage rather then lifting it. Because our rehearsal room was sold by its owner I now have to store my cab at my attic though, so a 55kg 2x15 is not gonna work for me any longer. Right then. I was going to spend quite some money as I wanted a really good cabinet to complement my Mesa bass prodigy lightweight (13kg) tube amp and I ended up choosing between these three:

VanderKley 212MNT
Barefaced Big Twin II gen 3
Bergantino HDN 212
It was hard choosing one. Bergantino and Barefaced cabs aren't for sale anywhere around here (in the Netherlands) and I had read awesome reviews/experiences about all three cabs. In the end I went for the Barefaced and am very happy with that. It has low colouration of my tone, the high frequency unit never sounds harsh and the low end is really tight. I guess I would be equally happy with either the Berg or the VanderKley though. The 2x12 has casters at the bottom of the back side and a handle on top + at the sides so it is very easy to lug around. So my advice: Look at good vertical 2x12 cabs for max comfort.
3. Awesome bass, Awesome guy. Welcome on BC, S! Have a free bump.
4. How often is it that England wins any footy game? Rejoice!
5. It is easier then you think to rally up some blokes in their 40's or 50's and start jamming. Many many people are "used to be in a band" types who would love to play again but somehow have been too busy having jobs and kids through their thirties. A lot also have kids that are old enough to look after themselves while daddy is off rehearsing and having laughs with the band. The only thing that needs to be done is connecting with those musicians. Jamsessions are indeed a good startingpoint.
6. ch ch ch changeeees I sometimes just can't make up my mind.
7. Having small hands is of no consequence whatsoever so have no fear for big necks. There's people playing broadneck 6, 7 or even up to 11 strings or whatever. The trick is in the thumb sitting at the back of the neck at the right position (somewhere in between your index and middle finger) Wrong hand positioning means a painful experience on any five stringer imho.
8. I am a bit of a Darkglass nut and a spoiled little brat. Compressor -> tuner -> TremoLo -> raunchy dirt -> preamp with/without mild dirt -> amp/console. Tremolo on its own seems useless but within band context it brings a lovely atmosphere. I use the cheapest possible power supply with isolated outputs, which plugs straight into the mains socket without any need for an external adaptor and the thin wires that come with those. Never any problems, but I do keep a spare one at hand.
9. Yes indeed. My Big Twin arrived early february replacing an Eden 212. Never been happier about my tone. The five way preset switch and EQ on the amp seem to have more effect since switching cabs.
10.
I bought one, running it through 2 Barefaced Big Baby 2's, simply awesome 😊
Almost the same here... Bass heaven! [sharedmedia=core:attachments:212243] [sharedmedia=core:attachments:212242]
11. Oooh sexy! Let us know how you like it once it has arrived plz.
12. Hi. Is shipping to the Netherlands possible? Thanks, Marco
13. Hello. 1994 Sonus 5 here. Awesome bass. Very articulate yet warm sounding, absolutely love it. It has a Bartolini two band pre-amp which I use with the low end at 75% and the pickup volumes at 100% / 80% emphasizing the neck pickup most of the time for some more growly mids.
14. Cabbage upgraded.
15. Practice rig. Neighbor friendly. Neighbor unfriendly version will be posted next week. Buckle up.
16. Sounds to me like you want more beef/substance to your tone. Bit warmer in the mids, more buttery/fluid yet remain articulate. I got there by using and amp with tubes in its pre and adding a good compressor. Yes it took me years before I was finally satisfied. Your existing cab is well capable of delivering the goods.
17. Short answer to "Could you turn your backline down a bit?" is NO. Band runs the show, not the soundguy. He will not get sub lows coming off the stage. We can haz shelving EQ cutting off any subs from the bass stack on stage. Why do we need a 250w all valve head? Because we can and it sounds dope. Next.
18.
Soooo tempted to take the Lightwave system out of my Sonus and drop in Barts. Love the Lightwave system for 'everything' except palm muting, which due to the way it works means you don't quite get the same thud as mags give.
Shouldn't be too much trouble considering it has a "virgin" body. And well worth it tbh. Do it!
19. Just finished setting the zon up to my preferences. Lowered the bridge saddles about 2mm. How some people manage to play on action that high I really don't know... So... Action is now nice and low, plays smooth and fast. No truss rod so no further tweaking needed. Loving it so far, nice fat growly sound with boatloads of substance to it. No regrets selling the Warwick SS2 and getting this Zon instead.
20. This baby arrived today while I was in bed having migraine. Good thing my lady was home as well. So yeah still a good day!
