1. Billy Sheehan gets a great sound. Well controlled distortion...
2.
I'm trying to remember when it was. I'm thinking maybe '88 - '89. Any idea ?
Could be 88, I was in London with art college, a couple of us took a detour to visit Forbidden Planet then called in to see the guys at 2000ad, I'm sure the comic shop was near Denmark St... being a spotty glam rock student I couldn't resist the lure of a brilliant pink Warwick.
3.
Only one I've played was for sale many moons ago in of the smaller shops in Denmark Street, London. A kind of pink colour. Previous owner was some bloke called Cass Lewis.
Small world, I had a rattle on that bass too. I didn't buy it but did eventually end with a Thumb NT4 which I still own. Sounds great, looks great, plays great... Every one should try a Thumb.
4. Thanks, Paul. I'll take a modern 1225V light. I've had my Trace from new for 20 odd years, it's proved to be very robust, unlike my spine... that's totally bust.
5.
Great vid.....is the string spacing on his bridge really wide on the A and D strings?
It looks like it is
6. I'm back in the UK next week, if this is still available then, I'm on it.
7. Nice touch, Tom
8. Jim Fleeting - Ripon I've just had my Thumb Bass in to get the frets levelled and the ' just a crap nut 2' replaced. The frets were in a mess from 10 years worth of heavy handed abuse but Jim worked his magic and brought them back to life, the horrid plastic nut was replaced with nice piece of bone that had been dyed black to fit in with the look of the bass. A lovely job. Once home and plugged in it became apparent that Jim had transformed this instrument into what it should have been all along... a high quality, professional instrument. It plays like butter... Thank You.
9.
Truly bizzare, as someone comments on Mark's facebook post, that is going to look a complete mess if used by a regular gigger!
It looks a mess when new. It's bloody awful.
10. Check out The Smyths. I've seen them a couple of times and they have always been great... and I've never really been into The Smiths.
11. That is a very nice bass.
12. Norwood says 'let it hang... real low'
13.
Yes He has agreed a sale with me --Just awaiting his details! Will.
Sold to this man Details sent. Thank you to every one who expressed an interest, even the odd ball who wanted to sell me a laptop
14. I'll try and make this event.
15. Thank you, TPJ. It sure does have a big big sound.
16. £150... sounds like a bargain to me
17. I've only seen one other in the UK, and that was in the early 90s... Yamaha Motion Bass in white. The colour has turned to a more old english off white and the body has a few dings and mark on the back towards the bottom, near the strap button. A passive bass with a great tone... £150 ono Will be posted in a cardboard box, the bass will be covered in bubble wrap. I'm in the North East, collection is an option. Cheers
18. B9 on it's way.
19.
when I first started playing I had a thing for a t bass on a local shop, never had the balls to try it. What are they like?
I went from a 4 string Ibanez SR800 to a 5 string T Bass, it was a bit of a culture shock. The bass was very well made and felt rock solid, the neck was wide but shallow in section and the radius tapered from B to G. It also looked fantastic, sonic blue with a white scratch plate but it sounded mechanical... Clank, Clank, Clank, not a harsh sound but lifeless. I tried to get on with it but gave up after a year. Basically, it was too cumbersome for me and I thought it sounded sh*t. I sold it on ebay around 10 years ago and bought a Thumb 4 string which I still use.
20. I tried a Sandberg California yesterday. It reminded me of a 5 string Trace Elliot T Bass I once owned. Beautifully built, awful to play... 30 seconds later and it was back on the stand. I was gutted, it looked fantastic. On the up side my GAS is cured.
21.
http://www.gak.co.uk...om-b9.1ut/26145 one of these. Amazing bit of kit! Sounds great (to my ears anyway) through earphones. Plus you're buying a very usable bit of gear. Its pretty big though so perhaps its not a perfect solution, but such a good deal just now!
Wow, that looks impressive. I'll do a bit of research on it, thanks. Thank for all the quick replies.
22. Hi, I'm getting back into the groove after a number of years in the wilderness. So I've dug out my old gear, Warwick Thumb NT 4, Trace Elliot 1225v and a Zoom 506 box. The bass has been away for a service and is sounding great, and the combo still knocks out a fantastic rumble. But together they are way to loud for home use. I invested in a pair of good head phones and wired up the Zoom 506 for a good rattle... it sounds crap. Cheap with a big dose of hiss. I'm looking for a box (?) to plug the bass and headphones in that will give me a warm, natural sound without having to use the Trace Elliot. I haven't a clue what is available so any help would be appreciated. The last boxes I can remember getting reviewed were Bass Pod and a Sansamp. At the time they both received good write ups and I always thought the Sansamp looked cool... I could go to £150-£200 so anything below that would be great, second hand gear would not be an issue. Cheers Bren
23. Wow, this thread takes me back to the mid 80s. Windows Arcade, Newcastle upon Tyne had a music department in the cellar of the shop. I remember when they first had this style bass guitar in. I'm sure they originally sold the Tune Bass Maniac then started selling Bass Collection. I think the first Bass Collection necks had Phenolic Resin finger boards. A great bass, light as a feather with a fast neck.
