1. Can you tell me, is the string spacing on the BB3000s tighter than on the BB3000? I have a BB3000, it's a fantastic bass but after pulling my Warwick Thumb out of hibernation yesterday and giving it a spin. I found it so much easier to play than the Yamaha. I think maybe it's the string spacing or width of the pickup making my plucking hand position incorrect or uncomfortable... Any ideas?.. I don't really want to get rid of the Yammy if I could tweak it somehow to suit my playing I'd be more than happy. Cheers
2. Youtube Fishbone. The Thumb is much more than just a slap machine. It’s the Swiss Army knife of the bass world.
3. Very sad. R.I.P.
4.
They did that at Manchester last night - a comprehensive romp through all of the albums (only exception was Antipop) as a trio, then the Wonka set. Encores with the cellist and percussionist were brilliant!
Yes, Manchester was great. Some excellent song choices, loved cellist and the chap on percussion. The Wonka set was bonkers, had a laugh when the umpalumpas had the 2 footy strips on in the club shops, didn't know which one to boo the most, nice touch though. The 2 half hour drive home was a killer but worth it.
5. Fantastic bass, some one is going to be very happy with that.
6.
I bought it new last year from PMT in Birmingham..... I paid £980 for it. It had been hanging around in the shop for two years... They had forgotten to put it on there web site and never noticed... Know one new it was there, and over time, as the lack of perceived interest continued, they kept lowering the price on it, thinking they had a lemon on their hands..when I first realised it was there, and what it was, the deal was done in 2 minutes..... The original price they had it up for when they got it was £2300. It was literally pushed to the back of the shop, believe it or not with a BB2025X (again not on the web site) which was marked up £1200... (negotiable) I went back a couple of weeks later and the 2025X was sold, awaiting collection. Luckiest bass buy of my life...
Wow, what a stroke of luck. A 2024x is still on my hit list, but for now my early 80s BB3000 fills that void perfectly. In fact, I havent used my Warwick Thumb for nearly a year.
7. That looks sh*t. Warwick... remember when you had some class?
8. Pedulla Mvp, Tune Bass Maniac, Warwick Thumb, Yamaha Motion.
9. Jeez...that would give King Kong a hernia. Awesome bass, good luck with the sale.
10. The wife bought me tickets for Manchester... awesome!
11. Looks like a useful bit of kit, put together by a very experienced team. The RRP doesn't seem too unreasonable, but, like everyone else on this thread I haven't tried one... yet. Well done and good luck. I'm looking forward to reading and hearing genuine reviews.
12. Very nice. I'm hoping they bring out an updated version of that combo in 2015.
13.
I find I have to sleep on it. If I'm finding a cover, or certain part of a cover hard to digest, I will play the hell out of it, then the next day after a good nights sleep pickup my bass and it comes to me. Sometimes a few sleeps are needed but anything can be done with enough day to day practice.
Works for me. Sleep on it, let your body take it all in. Next day, it's coming out of your fingers like some kinda voodoo. I'm not saying it's perfect, but it's a lot easier than the day before.
14. Fantastic band. I went to see them play at the old Mayfair Club in Newcastle many years ago, Doug hadn't been with them that long but they were great, and still are. 'Nothingness' was brilliant live. I like the darker sound of the band after Doug joined. I'm sure he did a Trace Elliot tour around the same sort of time, we watched him torture his trace rig at posh Hotel in the Toon, I think he was on Warwicks at the time.
15. Billy Sheehan gets a great sound. Well controlled distortion...
16.
I'm trying to remember when it was. I'm thinking maybe '88 - '89. Any idea ?
Could be 88, I was in London with art college, a couple of us took a detour to visit Forbidden Planet then called in to see the guys at 2000ad, I'm sure the comic shop was near Denmark St... being a spotty glam rock student I couldn't resist the lure of a brilliant pink Warwick.
17.
Only one I've played was for sale many moons ago in of the smaller shops in Denmark Street, London. A kind of pink colour. Previous owner was some bloke called Cass Lewis.
Small world, I had a rattle on that bass too. I didn't buy it but did eventually end with a Thumb NT4 which I still own. Sounds great, looks great, plays great... Every one should try a Thumb.
18. Thanks, Paul. I'll take a modern 1225V light. I've had my Trace from new for 20 odd years, it's proved to be very robust, unlike my spine... that's totally bust.
19.
Great vid.....is the string spacing on his bridge really wide on the A and D strings?
It looks like it is
20. I'm back in the UK next week, if this is still available then, I'm on it.
21. Nice touch, Tom
