You know what really bugs me? People who start a sentence with "You know what really bugs me?"

Not sure if.............this is the right place

Just stop it! I mean what's wrong with you people? I have no need for another amp or any more basses. Well maybe just a quick look, I mean where's the harm in that? -
The Variax had a good upright patch on it when I owned one, pity they never did a new version.
The trouble I find with my Variax is that, although the upright setting is convincing enough in a band, not being fretless makes it a lot less convincing. On DB I like to slide around a bit and transferring those songs onto the Variax is not a pleasing experience. I suppose what I'm saying is, it definitely needs to be fretless. I can get a very similar sound to the Variax out of a normal bass using the resonator setting on my cheapy Toneworks AX3A pedal, with a fretless it's really good. So maybe try an effect before buying a new bass.

Re the lined/unlined thing, I started with unlined and have never seen the issue, the side dots are all you see and need. And the plus is that unlined looks far nicer imo. It's not as difficult as it seems it would be, although if you're gigging the need to hear yourself clearly is more important.

Unfortunately I prefer the styling of the 4005 over the more common shape of the 4001/2/3/4, price is a serious problem as the make the others look like pocket money. Maybe one day when I'm rich

Are 'Encore' basses handmade? :|
Some people are born with the "gift", these were usually the folks that "made it" and were light years ahead of everyone in terms of talent and ability even in high school. I gig every weekend and practice every night and I've been at this for 45 years. I'm still average, this stuff does not come naturally to me. I really have to work at it. Blue
I'll agree with that. A lot of people have told me I'm a natural bassist, which I take as a nice complement, but I'm not at all, it's bloody hard work and I struggle to breathe and play bass at the same time, let alone talk to punters that insist on trying to chat mid song.

I say give the guy a break. So he didn't like Rickenbackers, that doesn't mean he doesn't have other valid opinion. I liked his insistence to add harmonium to everything, that could really add to a bands sound.

This thread is so like, whatever!

I like to cut the scone in half, then spread jam before cream on one half and cream before jam on the other, people just can't cope with that.

Blimey! The Rickenbacker thread has just kicked off again!

I've never even bought one! -
I find Rickenbackers to be like Dairylea, you can get a screwdriver to stand up in it but sometimes, on a warm day, a marble will sink in it. I liken Dairylea to Pol Pot but history records don't show he ever ate it, if he did then that's for another thread. Makes no difference anyway, as long it's spread thick enough on the paving slab it'll all be good. You've made your point, now enough with the pointless crap

Could a moderator swap this thread title with the "Why I sold my Rickenbacker bass" one please. Sorry Bubinga5, as you were
Personally, I blame tight fitting underwear.
I concur, I'm sat here naked and I feel as chilled as a mofo. BTW the Rick gang didn't want to fight so I'm back here, turn out the rumours are just rumours.

Do you/your band rehearse with full gigging set-up?
Maude replied to Lozz196's topic in General Discussion
most of it ...except the spandex of course
What, completely naked then? We're lucky that we rent a basement permanently between the three bands that we're all in so we leave all the amps drums and PA set up, just bring guitars and pedals and away we go. -
Yeah this forum's too aggressive, I'm going over to Rick Resource to explain how my Variax does a good Ricky sound without all the sharp edges. I may be some time :/

There's a cream and mint one on ebay at the mo, collection only and it's miles away thankfully On of my bands is considering going for a full glam set, we include a fair few now but if we go the whole hog then a gold sparkle one would be perfect. I refinished my Variax to my taste so I wouldn't need any more basses. But they're sooo perdy!

I've been having lustful feelings towards Longhorns, mainly the 'Dead on 58'. I have no real need for one but that doesn't seem to matter. I nearly bought a used one on ebay a year or so ago just because I loved the look of it. The urge went away but I've just noticed that Thomann are doing them for less than £300. Hmm, gold sparkle or copperburst? No, must resist! Mmmmm, copperburst

I bought cheap from a well known, large german instrument supplier, an acoustic bass for £36 to be precise, and was so impressed with what I received that I bought another. So I'd agree with that saying, I bought cheap and bought twice
It's a bass that divides opinion judging by some of the comments on here. I remember when I first started playing, all I wanted was a Ricky - mainly because Bruce Foxton used one in the early days of The Jam. When I eventually got to try a couple out I remember feeling quite disappointed - didn't get on with the shape or feel of them (especially the fingerboard). However, it doesn't mean that it's a poor instrument - the number of top name rock bass players who have used it successfully in recordings proves that it has its place in music.
How dare you come on here with sensible opinions

So from this thread I've learnt that the OP comes across as an angry person, and that basses right across the price spectrum are perfectly useable in the right situation. But I already knew the second point. Bronner have you learnt anything from this thread?

CuteCube² Guitar - Play-in System for String Instruments
Maude replied to low&'s topic in General Discussion
I had one of those, I left it turned on in my pocket by mistake, it had turned me into an old man by the end of the day. Granted it made my Encore P play like a vintage American Fender but I can't lift the damn thing with my arthritis and the alzheimers means I forget how to play. -
Behringer XM8500. Less mid-biased than the SM58, but it may be possible to see what it`s based on...... Oh, and for £20 these can`t be beat. I sold my SM58 as I prefer the XM8500. http://www.gak.co.uk/en/behringer-xm-8500/1062?gclid=CjwKEAjw56moBRD8_4-AgoOqhV4SJADWWVCcYWdDbJfTvYjcHSwS9IC0fZPrBKNUNT46IDQPKcNdshoCc6zw_wcB
I bought three of these in a decent case with clips and adapters for £35, can't remember where now but they are fantastic for the money, heck they're fantastic without the price coming into it. Had them a few years now and no problems.

I love f but my all time favourite is y.
Looks like you get what you pay for. Soak them in almond oil, fine sand them with wet and dry, shave off burrs with a cut throat razor, play them in for a few months and you'll be fine!
Yes I read that post after Andybass mentioned TB, it doesn't look good does it. But having said that, if they are good strings after all the faffing I could fit them to my EUB for practice at home and once run in transfer them to my gigging DB, but I doubt they are good once played in. I imagined they wouldn't be good but you just never know.
