Very difficult, it will use a programmed chip, so it's basically a mini computer, you'd need the code and even then you probably couldn't do it exactly, and even if you could, you'd probably be breaking the law.
Fair enough, I thought it was maybe just a whole bunch of resistors and diodes and stuff rather than programs. Just thought you buy can a hell of lot of electrical components for £700. They do seem like crazy money but if you want/need it then that's the price you pay, I'd be worried about buying one now and then they fall out of favour and are only worth a couple of hundred. I'm sure when I had my Unibass they were nowhere near that sort of money, even though discontinued.
 2.
I think that the OP may be the only bass player who has never heard of Billy Sheehan…!
I had never heard of him when I bought my first bass (BS signiture Yammy), I just liked the minty green colour and the black offset blocked fretboard. I'm a bit embarrassed by that now.
 3. I bought my Line6 X3 Live secondhand and it came in a proper branded gig bag, and a really nice quality one at that. Not much help I know but it shows they are/were available I suppose.
 4. As an electronics dumbass, how difficult/expensive would it be to make an identical clone of these? As there not particularly old I assume all the components are still readily available. Just an idol question before anyone jumps out my monitor and brands a Behringer logo on my ass .
 5.
Nice bass but no hat
While I still have hair??
 6. Here's one of me with the Gedo from our Eden Project gig last Friday.
 7. Update, a bit of confusion on the list of peeps but seems to be in order now. These will be on there way to Johnny D by the end of the week, PURPOLARIS you're next after Johnny I think, sorry.
 8. I enjoyed reading all of that, thanks. Some really useful info in there
 9. Well I've just managed to snag this lot for £80 so hopefully it will do all I need, and can be set up out the way somewhere to not annoy others. I'm picking it up on Tuesday. 10. I'd definitely keep the fretted bass as well even if you are all about the fretless, you just never know. Unless money is an issue then get rid and replace when more suitable. Unless it's not financially viable to sell and then replace as you'd lose too much. Ahh what help am I? I've been trying to do a similar thing but it appears (in my head) that I still need a 4 fretted, 4 fretless, 5 fretted, 4 acoustic, 4 semi and my Variax because it's so versatile. Oh and then the EUB and acoustic doublebass .............. oh yeah and the homemade UBass I'm in the middle of. What I did manage to rid of it would seem is most of my will power
 11. Right I'm done with these now, I think PURPOLARIS is next so I'll PM him. These are very nice strings for my style of music but the RABs have just won over them. Soundwise, to my ears, they are very similar to the RABs, a tad darker sounding maybe and a touch louder, there are subtle other differences but not, I feel, enough to make a difference when playing amplified using a piezo (also EQ can make both strings sound alike). I liked the higher tension but some of our songs have quite fast fingerings and it's quite a workout by the end of a set. I'm comparing them to RABs because they are similar strings and I already have a set of RABs, if I already owned the UBs I'd probably favour them over the RABs. But I'm happy to trade a tiny preference in sound for a bit more ease of playing and not have to shell out for another set of strings, if they were a lot more superior I'd do it but I don't feel they are. Please excuse the bad terminology but hopefully you get the picture. Again, thanks to Daf and Innovation for giving us the chance to try out these strings for a couple of weeks free of charge, it really does help .
 12.
Yes I know, I've been feeling bad about it since I clicked on the 'Post' button...
You shouldn't feel bad about being truthful
 13.
How many encores is this getting?
I wouldn't worry about it, it's not 'A Major' problem.
 14.
My complaint about Strictly is that no bugger comes out till it's finished. My band played a social club gig last night, due to start at 8. Four (4) paying punters in the room. Hirer suggested don't start till 8.15, by which time a few more had drifted in, but the place didn't really fill up till half way through the evening, so people paying £6 on the door for half a night's entertainment. I suppose they're the ones losing out in the end.
If you knew in advance what songs they were all dancing to you could put a big screen (with no sound) in the club and do live versions of the strictly songs, in whatever style your band normally is .................. I want to see a psychobilly band do it
 15.
I've never looked, but I think my ring tone's a lightish brown.
And consider the tone ................. lowered!! Not a bass tone as I could never hear it in the workshop where I work so I have the intro to 'Dead Skin Mask' by Slayer, that cymbol can be heard above a surprising amount of noise
 16.
Rubbish! Seasick Steve is doing OK.
He certainly is but is it new? But that's a whole different debate.
 17.
That's why I said 'in 30 year's time'
Fair play, by the time I'd read through all the posts I'd forgotten that bit. In that case, I'm not sure, I'll ask my kids. I know that I don't buy enough new music anymore to know. I suppose that so much music being made electronically these days must mean that we've already slashed at least 50% of the new musicians off the list of possibilities.
 18.
Then start it yourself.
Game changing scenes are a young mans game .
 19.
Stop someone at random in the street and I bet they couldn't name even five bass players.
Hold up a guitar and bass and ask them to point at the bass and they'd probably fail . I typed general public but suppose I meant folks into music but not into playing but I know what you're saying. I'm so depressed now I'm going to sell all my basses, but nobody will want them anyway . I've been waiting for the next big game changing scene but it doesn't seem to be coming.
 20. The trouble is it takes a while before a bass player is cemented into anyones psyche and held up as a 'god'. All the players in the OP are 70's or 80's, more recent additions would be Flea, Chris Wolstenholme, Matt Freeman, Fat Mike, all from 90's bands (yes they were around before but I wouldn't say mainstream then) but it's taken a while before the general public saw them as bass gods. So maybe todays most elite players will take another 10/20 years before they're considered gods. Maybe sadly music doesn't matter as much nowadays, it used be a defining trait of who you were growing up, if you were into one thing then that's pretty much who you were, you didn't get involved with other genres, it was an all encompassing scene, almost territorial . Now teenagers are into all sorts of music, the different genres are merged, this may be a good thing but I think it means people aren't as passionate about music so can be happy with bland dross were the bass isn't even noticed. And if you can make your fortune by playing bland bass in a band that's popular because marketing says it will be, then who can blame the players. I feel it's watered down because a band with a different style or sound come along and 'make it', then every other record label finds or creates a band that sounds the same so the originals don't stand out anymore, maybe it's always been that way but it never felt like it. I grew up in the 80's so I'll use some bands from then as examples, Madness were a band with an unmistakable sound of their own but other record companies didn't try to recreate them, Duran Duran, The Cure, were others, yes some sounded similar but not to the extent it is today. A band are popular and suddenly within six months there are a dozen others that sound the same. Obviously this doesn't mean there aren't youngsters who are passionate about music, my two are and I'm very proud of them for it, but it seems an awful lot of people are happy to buy music that doesn't stand out or move them. I'm a miserable sod !!
 21.
If they think it's going to improve things, then why not? Rather that than a guitar track. I'm sure they can afford him.
I'd certainly rather that than a guitar track but my point is if I was in a four piece band then I'd write music for a four piece band, if you need the fifth member then market yourself, including promo pics as a five piece. Not a big deal, it just slightly annoys me, but then a lot of stuff seems to nowadays .
 22. This thread has cheered me up, just the tonic!
 23. There's no right or wrong answer to this, just what different folks want to see. I'd rather always see live music played live, but a lot of folks are happy to see a one man band playing to backing tracks. What I do expect though is that the musicians that are there are actually playing their instruments or singing. A one man band with a guitar playing to backing tracks is fine, not my cup of tea but fine, as long as he's playing that guitar and singing, when it becomes deception I have a problem. Our band has a private gig where we've been asked to play 'Blockbuster' (the song not the video place ) and we have a loop of the opening siren, it's a backing track of sorts so where do you draw the line. On a similar note but the opposite end of the spectrum, I have issues with established bands bringing in non 'known' members to play live shows. Green day have always been a three piece punk band (don't get into the punk debate) but when I saw them on the American Idiot tour they had a fourth member, The Kings of Leon are a four piece right? So why was there a fifth member when they were on telly the other day. If you're an established act with 'famous' members then personally I feel you should write your music so you can play it live with the members you have. I mean KoL have two guitars, bass and drums, do they really need a third guitar to play live?
 24. I expect a lot of you have seen this as it got sent to me via Facebook, but it made me chuckle .
 25.
How can you think about music when Susanna Reid is cavorting for your viewing pleasure? Some things are more important than bass , and Susanna is one of those things .
Oh I dunno, I always lower the tone when she's mentioned, it's all about the bottom end
