1. When you say lightly aged is it a closet classic finish, relic or a NOS with a bit of real mojo going on? It is sex in timber form regardless.
2. Interesting, my last post on this thread seems to have been removed.
3. Utter, utter crap instruments with no redeeming features other than proving that some people will buy polished sh*t to be a bit different.
4. So there's eBay, aiding & abetting a fraud. At some point the buyer will realise he's been conned & he will never know that eBay were well aware of it & did nothing to stop it.
5. Which begs the question "why didn't he start the auction at £2500?".
6.
These 'Dan Smith' Fenders are excellent (had several...) Fender brought him in in '83 to sort out producton quality issues... these are the result.
Dan Smith joined Fender from Yamaha in 1981, the 1982 models were the what collectors call the "Dan Smith" guitars, made in small numbers & its rumoured Fender were losing $100 on every guitar made in 1982. By '83 Fender CBS were spiralling towards bankruptcy & trying to increase production whilst cutting production costs - hence the introduction of the 1 piece scratch plate on the Jazz, the top loaded tele & the 2 knob, non routed trem Strat. Still a nice Jazz though & well worth the asking price.
7. Station Music in Germany have some Classics with roasted maple necks (no ebony board tho). http://www.station-music.de/bass/musicman.html £900 more than this beauty though!
8. Almost a perfect replica! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Paul-Mccartney-Wal-Style-5-String-bass-Guitar-/291008623953?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item43c1773551
9. I love Dingwalls, the fanned frets make for an incredibly even response, they are super comfortable to play & a doodle to adjust to. Great price, great bass.
10. To be honest Andy, I've seen a few things on here lately that are disappointing. Queue jumping, gazumping, sellers not answering PMs, "buyers" pulling out or just going AWOL. It's almost as if the fact we have to pay to sell means people don't need to bother with common decency anymore.
11. That is astonishing, Dave. Out of my price range but, by god, I'd love it.
12. Not familiar with Raygunrelics but that there is an example of someone who has no clue what an aged guitar looks like. Hideous.
13. Denis Fano makes remarkable, innovate & beautifully crafted instruments. This looks fan(o)tastic.
14. That was a steal, £304 for a BB1200? The world's gone mad.
15. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FENDER-P-BASS-GOOD-CONDITION-RECENT-QUALITY-STRINGS-STANDARD-SCALE-/261312006983?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item3cd768cb47 That bottom part of that headstock just doesn't look right to me.
16. This sounds like it could be my dream bass &, for once, I have some money to spend. Looking forward to the pics.
17.
When will the pics be up. Waiting in anticipation
+2
18. That's a crime really. I've owned a lot of high end basses & played even more and nothing made my jaw drop like the first time I played an XL2, someone will get sonic nirvana with this.
19. Forgive the slightly off topic question but is it right that Gibson have a number of containers in a car park that are filled with enough Steinberger parts to make several hundred new basses?
20.
This would be relevant if you could buy a new 1961 Fender Jazz in 2013... Whether you think the asking price is reasonable is another matter entirely, and we are all entitled to our opinions. Some would argue a 2013 Jazz is superior
I think you may have missed the joke. If I had £11k i'd buy it in a heartbeat.
21. Another sale thread asking more for a secondhand bass than a new one goes for. Seriously, that is magnificent & Rick's eloquent post sums up why things like this attract the interest & prices they do. I love it.
