1.
Are Sadowsky "totally ripping off" Fender because they do a superior take on a Leo Fender design?
Superior to the early 60s jazz? But yeah, Sadowsky, along with a number of builders, are ripping off other people's designs.
2. He certainly did use Spectors, you can see one in the videos for Fight Like a Brave & Knock Me Down.
3. Blatant shilling, let's see what eBay do about it.
4. I bought a Spector USA Shorty this week. It is superb.
5. There a big gap between an asking price & a selling price & a lot of 'ray owners on eBay are being wildly optimistic. £700 would be my upper limit for a modern 'ray.
6. No interest so I'm putting this one back in its case.
7. Compare the price of a Super P4 with a Fender Pino or a Super J4 with the price of a Sadowsky Will Lee. For a bespoke Canadian made bass with a custom made bridge, pickups & electronics (i.e. no bulk purchasing of established parts), Dingwalls are more than reasonable.
8. Well the 3 that really intrigue me are the Dingwall Super P, the Xotic XP & the Lull. I don't see much mentioned about Mike Lull but what I do see suggests he makes a very special bass.
9. Grand Wazoo makes a great point about the evenness of sound across the strings. It's hard to explain but you don't appreciate how different the B,E & A strings sound to the D&G on a normal bass. With the Dingwall it sounds like every string is being played on the same instrument, same presence punch & sustain. What I appreciate most about this is that eq'ing the amp stops being a compromise between tight enough to make the lower register sound clean but no so tight as to make the high register sound nasal. Oh, & Sheldon Dingwall seems to be a top bloke. It would be very easy for anyone making such a great product to disappear up their own arse about it but he seems totally grounded & interested in what all his customers have to say.
10. I'm gutted to be selling mine. Amazing necks, amazing build & tone to die for, best bass guitar I've played in 30+ years.
11. Yes, no problem, I've sent you a PM with some prices.
12. OK, a last sniff folks, £1099 until Sunday night & then it's staying put.
13. A little bump, lots of interest but still available.
14. Thank you for all the positive words, I hadn't realised quite how many people were aware of how good these basses are. Still available BTW.
15. Ah right, never knew that! I thought it looked damn well made, thanks for the heads up.
16. Sold Pending the usuals. [s]Hello Folks! As my Dingwall isn't moving I'm offering up my Yamaha BB1200 for sale too. This is the bass that was made famous by Chris Cross in Ultravox, the blokey out of Herbie Hancock's band, Hooky & some fella called McCartney. Yamaha's take on the P Bass but with a through neck & the pickup reversed. Alder wings, 5 piece maple/walnut neck, quality bridge & tension adjustable machine heads. The bass is in superb condition for a 33 year old instrument, a few pin head sized impressions, one larger dink through the finish is pictured - that's the worst mark on the bass. At some point a bespoke scratchplate has been fitted, it's a very professional job, properly shaped & even has the cutout to access the truss rod. Frets are as new, truss rod turns in both directions & its got a brand new set of Chromes on it. Included is the original Yamaha case (well worn!) &, remarkably, the original booklet, cleaning cloth & tool kit are all intact. If you've been looking for one of these you'll struggle to find a nicer one. It's a through neck Japanese made bass from Yamaha's golden period for less than £500, nothing to touch it at this sort of price. I have a suitable box & packing and am happy to ship at your expense.[/s]
17. So the seller shouldn't lose money for something out of his control but the buyer should? Seller's an arse &, regardless of his disclaimer, he is liable for safe delivery under EBay T&Cs.
18. Ok, you pick up a bass in front of a few friends, which song do you launch in to to really impress everyone?
19. I love the look & sound of Thumbs but I've always found them very uncomfortable to play. That stubby top horn means it it sits too far to the left on me & makes anything below a G a real stretch.
