ok so I have now tried my 200watt combo at a gig and it was ok but i had the amp running at full, so i have taken the plunge and bought an ashdown mag 600h woo hoo. now this runs at 575watt at 4ohms. im picking up an ampeg 4x10hlf which is 400watt at 4ohms. so as this is more than enough power for me im really happy and cant wait to get them and try them out, my question now is how can I get that extra 175watts of power out? as far as i can tell is that if I run another 4ohm cab that takes my impedance to 2 ohms which will ruin my amp(not an option) so wondering what would be the effect if i ran a 8ohm cab?? or can I in some way run 2x 4 ohm cabs in series and whats the difference running them in series rather than parallel if thats possible of course?
Running the MAG 600 into a 4 ohm load, the amp will be capable of knocking out it's full 575 watts if you turn it up full. Which obviously you don't want to into a cab that can only handle 400 watts. If you hear the speakers starting to make nasty noises, turn it down or back off the bottom end. If you run a 8 ohm cab with your 4 ohm one the total impedance will be about 2.7 ohms, which will risk damaging your amp. By running two 4 ohm cabs in series you'll be into the same scenario as adding a cab to your H+K - you'll reduce the wattage available from your amp, though you'll probably get the same sort of overall volume (though it's worth noting Bill's caveat above). I'm not quite sure what you mean when you say 'into one line'. I'm assuming you don't mean you want bass>pedal>pedal>amp, as this should be fairly self explanatory. Let us know exactly what you've got in mind and I'm sure someone will be able to suggest something.

Vintage MIJ (formerly J@pCr@p) Spotting

Personally I use the Amazing Slow Downer to work stuff out, which also gives the added bonus of knowing that what I'm playing is actually accurate - I don't think I've come across a completely correct tab yet. Best Practice is a freeware version that seems to be virtually identical minus the EQ that the ASD has. I can't give you any specific recommendations for a book, but I'd suggest learning scales pretty thoroughly as it makes learning tunes by ear much easier.

Played a brand new Fender 2009 P Bass tonight...

I think you may have to reconsider your user name Stevie. -
Powering a bass off my PSU's daisy chain or another 9v adaptor?
Musky replied to kingforaday's topic in Effects
I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work, though I'd have thought you'd have to remain fairly static - those power supply leads aren't very long. FWIW I've got an active bass that is phantom powered from a power supply via an XLR cable. -
I've got to admit I hadn't heard of Rick Knapp. I thought the thread was going to be about a stolen Rickenbacker.

It doesn't look like you can add another speaker to the Rumble as it's already running at 4 ohms. There's not really a 'best' at any price point as it's all a matter of taste, but if you're looking for value for money you could do a lot worse than look at Peavey.
-
Not exactly a practice combo, but used Peavey TNT combos go for about £150 or less. Depends how important portability is to you though!

Hookys6stringbass bought one of those - he didn't think much of the bridge pickup. It's almost certainly an importer's brand, like most of the other brands on far eastern instruments that pop up seemingly over night. I've no idea of the factory though, or even the country of origin. Maybe Hooky can enlighten us.

Bill's forum is definitely the place to ask about the speakers, but as far as I know the Omnis have now been replaced by the Jacks.
Here's an interesting thing, taking the Aria-but-not-Matsumoku idea a bit further, and of course dragging the thread even more off topic! Careful with this, I have to warn you, it's a g*it*r: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=170392904930 It's a old & pretty Les Paul copy with an original mid 70s Aria logo. It's also a Kasuga. OK, there's a possibility it's a bitsa with some Kasuga parts, but I don't think so. The big giveaways are the tuners, which are actually Kasuga logo'd. It also has a distinctive shaped truss rod cover which matches the ones used by Kasuga, and a plain MIJ-stamped neckplate, which we don't tend to find on Uncle Mats. There's a precedent for this too. Kasuga did use their own branded tuners (made by Gotoh) on other off-brand instruments - these appear on the Canadian "Northern" brand, which Kasuga built. Anyway, as you were. J.
And there was me thinking that it was safe to call any '75 to '87 Aria a Mat. That's a lovely looking guitar, regardless of who made it.

The 6 bolt neck on that might suggest it was made by Moridaira - but maybe not! Bassassin is the resident JapCrap (a term of affection, not an assessment of quality!) expert here, so maybe stick up something in the JapCrap spotting thread in the ebay forum.

Just to throw another option into the hat - Danelectro French Toast. It's distortion and octave up. Maybe a bit fuzzy for you, but they sell for peanuts.
Well, that's why I said Aria/Matsumoku. It's unlikely all Arias were Matsumoku-made, particularly the earlier ones like this. Also it seems Aria, or Shiro Arai Co, acted as a sort of middleman reseller for Mat & possibly other factories. If you look at the older Greco catalogues you'll see credits for Fujigen and Aria at the back - at the time their guitars came from Mat & Fujigen. I've seen the 6-bolt plate on an Aria Jazz copy - in fact it's right here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;hl=aria+jazz Just goes to show, in the world of JapCrap, nothing is quite what it seems. Trouble is, we don't ever know exactly what it is! J.
Now there's a weird thing - 6 bolt Arias. And from '77, when I thought Mat were exclusively producing for them. Or does that mean Mat were knocking out some basses with 6 bolt necks... I think I need a lie down. They don't like making IDing these things any easier do they.

Really that could be almost anything. There were no S5 serials (let alone S+ 5 digits), the font is wrong for the serial, and the serial shouldn't even be on the headstock with the serif 'Jazz Bass' logo. Though why anybody would make mistakes like that if they were really trying to create a fake is beyond me. Maybe it is exactly what he's claiming - and older refinished Jazz with plenty of parts replaced.

looking into having a seperate cab for my distortion sound
Musky replied to 0175westwood29's topic in Amps and Cabs
Surely the easiest way to keep the bottom end when using a pedal is to find one that doesn't lose any bass, or to use a blender to mix some clean bass in there. Or do both. Of course, it wouldn't be as Doom though. -
You reckon that might be a Mat then Jon? I saw the six bolt neck and thought Moridaira.

Love the username. I think we need pictures of that Angelica as well.
I'm sure there's some tool out there somewhere who'll pay up. My 300 quid amp recently came up on Ebay US for 2500 US Dollars (1800 quid or so?), and if someone offered me that for it I'd take the money and run
True. A guitarist I used to play in a band with picked up a great condition OR100 and matching 4x12 for £180. And that was from Denmark St. A year later he picked up a 2x12 combo version for £150 from the same place. Mind you, you could pick up AC30s with blue speakers for under £75 around that time as well.
-
Hmmm... Stuff with bent coat hanger wire for a string retainer and little plastic sliders for pickup selection usually go in my 'just don't' category. Never tried one of these though, so maybe it's a diamond on the rough.
I think the amps are very well made, and provide a lot of options. The only thing is, for the price, (and I realise it has a lot built into it) 450Watts for micro head now is near the lower end. The Little Mark 3 might be much simpler but it puts out a healthy wattage, and is rated at 500W. Shuttle 6.0 is sorta 600W..... Shuttle 9.0 is 900W.... Dont get me wrong, Id like a TC Amp, Id just like one thats say 600-700W.
The volume difference between 450W and 600W is at the margins of audibility in a real world situation.
-
Interesting that so many people don't consider heads to be part of the backline (at least for purposes of kit sharing). I've never come across this before and I've got to admit that if a venue or band said they were providing backline I'd assume this meant both the amp and cab.
now that i cant add a cab without losing power, can anyone tell me if this amp will hold up in a gig, i ususally gig to about 50-100people. it has 200watts going into a 15"driver, any thoughts guys
The answer is... it might do. Or not. The problem is that the wattage actually tells you very little about the volume you're going to achieve, and even less about how that's going to fit in with your band. A 200 watt amp plugged in to one of Bill Fitzmaurice's (very efficient) cabs will sound about twice as loud as if the same amp was plugged into an inefficient Acme cab. You've then got to consider your EQ - scooping the mids will mean your bass won't cut through as well, so you might find yourself needing more volume to hear yourself. And likewise if you've got a loud guitarist and drummer. I'll stick my neck out and suggest for the size gigs you're playing that the amp will be loud enough. I play with an SWR combo that is only knocking out about 120w into it's internal speaker, but I've still had an engineer come up after a gig and tell me that he had to pull my bass from the PA because I was too loud. But like I said, it all depends.
