1. Am I alone in wishing there was a small bass power amp (like the size of a VHS cassette) that is designed to fit on a floorboard?
2. With a heavy heart, I need to replace myself. I've enjoyed over two years with this wonderful eight-piece band, but I'm taking time off from gigging, having not had a break for 33 years of regularly live work. Excellent band camaraderie. We part on very good terms, and will stay mates. Within The Blood were formed by three brothers about 20 years ago. I replaced one brother when he relocated to Spain. Line up is: Steve: Vox & guitar Bex: Vox & nice dresses Ben: Drums & BV Terry: Rhythm guitar & BV You?: Bass (BV would be a bonus) Rupert: Baritone Sax & BV Justin: Trumpet & BV TBC: Alto sax Repertoire involves soul/ska/pop/rock Equipped with van, lights, P.A. More details http://www.withintheblood.co.uk/ Gigging regularly. Always go down well, with encores. Contact me or through the band's website Cheers, Phil
3. MIM are definitely better now. I suspect it's down to modern day CNC machines. That's certainly been a significant factor in entry level instruments made in the far east. I was visiting Fender Corona last year and noticed that the necks for higher end Mexican instruments were being made in Corona. Then sent across the border. I've put my personal GAS behind both. I bought myself a new MIM stratocaster which is totally ACE, and I've now got a Custom Shop '64 relic Jazz. Both offer Damn good value IMHO!
4. Can I suggest someone from Basschat posts up a poll to see what previous and recent show attendees thought of year's event? There were about ten repeat exhibitors absent this time. If that pattern continues, there won't be a bass show to go to. It was commercially successful for Bass Gear, as well as being a blast. So we're happy. The exhibitors who stayed at home may be encouraged to come back, if folk thought it had improved.
5. I just bought for my personal use, a Markbass Alan Caron combo. It's worth checking out the YouTube video in which he explains the origin of this (slightly rare) signature combo. And yes, it ain't cheap!

8. As a previous organiser of the Yorkshire (Basschat) Bassbash, and as a previous attendee of this event, I wish all the best for the day. Molan is attending it via coming in to our showroom on the way. I'll make sure he has something to contribute to the raffle prizes. Sorry I can't be with you but I'll be on duty at Bass Gear. Have a great one! Phil
9.
How long has that been there? I had no Idea. Handy for me in Maidenhead. Good news.
Coming up for two years now, Phil! Free parking too. Directions are here. We've a got a regular stream of customers from Maidenhead, including a gigging 5-string player who has been playing since the late 1940s!
10. 11. My Mrs went to the previous Shuffler/Jazz Cafe and still raves about it
12. Believe it or not, we get some customers deciding against buying these because they are only £359, and are thus sceptical about them. We don't stock them because they are at this price, we stock them because they are an American-made amp of quality and flexibility. I have case histories of customers buying them in as a standby head, who then end up using them as their primary amp. I personally gig one in a 2u rack. I find the 2 ohm flexibility damn useful.
13. Thanks John (and everyone else's kind words) ...and thank you very much for the box of goodies received in the post from you! Next time you come, there's a little 'thank you' waiting for you Phil
14. I would have liked a Richard Sinclair signature Jazz bass but when I met Richard he told me his dad had made it! However, I really would like to see a replica model of Dave Peg's Precision. He used it for the classic Island Records recordings for Nick Drake, Fairport and so on, plus he visited Leo Fender with it and he routed in (personally I believe) a Jazz bridge pickup. I now wished I'd taken a big breath and bought this bass when it was sold by Dave on eBay about four years a go.
15.
Only three days to go! Here’s a quick update to let you know it’s all coming together nicely! Along with Scott and Phil, we have confirmation that Paul Carmichael, Chris Hargreaves, Chloe Treacher, Spy Austin and Chris Attwell (plus band), will all be getting their groove on for the evening showcase… And the afternoon get together is looking good too – with a load of industry friends promising to pop in and hang out – even I’m getting excited! And, in the spirit of caring and sharing… we’ve decided to spread the love by offering some reckless discounts on the day. So, if you’re teetering on the edge of ordering that special bass you’ve been lusting after, this will be your chance to catch me feeling mellow and generous (if you talk to me nicely and maybe buy me a drink!)… See y'all there! Chris
We should be there early afternoon, Chris. ...before you loose your voice Phil
16. Had to look Bachman Turner Overdrive up on Wiki, but Fred Turner is/was their bass player. Any more?
17. Right now, I'm just a bit focused on all things bass, emanating from the great country that is Canada. Genuine question: Apart from Geddy Lee, what other bass players are there from Canada? Cheers, Phil
18. Gutted. My only constellation is there's a gorgeous Veilette 5-string fretless coming in on Tuesday as a commission sale. I've played it before, although it gave me the distinct impression that it was playing itself.
19. I think you should, Clarky. Preferably before you get caught up in the football season. We've got stuff that's just come in or just coming in that hasn't even made the website yet, so you might find something you like.
20. Oh no! I'm even tempted to reconsider my personal "never-ever-sell" ex-Richard Sinclair 1985 CIJ fretless Jazz Bass!
21. Here's a "Please don't bring this to Twyford or I'll end up doing a ridiculously generous trade" kind of bump.
22. I had the privilege of fondling an MB-2 fretless yesterday and I fell in love with it. So light, yet beautiful sounding and easy to play. Now on my personal wish list come the glorious day when I can buy things for just ME!
23. Hi all. We have had a few Apologies For Absence in the last couple of days. Not a great surprise, given the ever shifting dates of gigs, rehearsals and work diaries. This is a freebie and some of the techniques explained and music performed will be much appreciated by bass players with an appetite for learning. You can just turn up, but it would be polite to let me know before hand. Thanks, Phil
24. Your suggestions please for the (Spotify) Bass Buffet Playlist for listening to tomorrow ...even if you can't make it down. Phil
25.
Got to be in East Beds at lunchtime, but may well be free after, what time will you be there until? Would love to come along and have a chat!!
10am until 5pm ...unless it's too much fun to stop
