1. I now have Molan's Eden D410 XLT ...which is great BUT chuffing heavy, and so I'm after a set of castors. It has sockets underneath for castors, as pictured below. Can anyone advise me of what the best thing is to do get wheels under this big boy?
2. I'm edging closer to commissioning Mr Shuker, based on the fact that a year wait will give me a chance to save for it!
3. I'm all for decluttering the active 'View New Posts' section. I've no problem with keeping out bumps within 24 hours. I've mentioned before, that it would be good to keep out non-interactive threads (i.e. posts that do not require a response). These include Feedback postings as well as Sold/Withdrawn thread enders.
4. It says on the back of the driver, "April 07 1999 Eden EC1560F 8 Ohm". This came with a D115 cab that has a 350w Eminence fitted, so this, the original, came with the deal. I've no idea of it's value, but I could do with some cash to help pay for some covers I've ordered for my Eden cabs. It's a bit dusty, but otherwise it has no apparent damage. I assume it works, but in the event that it doesn't, I'll fully refund. I can post, but I'll also take it to the bash on the 15th. Just to be clear, the speaker is in the buff, so needs an enclosure.
5. I'm walking past the venue this aft, so I've done a poster to drop off there. If anyone wants a copy to post up on their local music shop or whatever, PM me. I've done it on Powerpoint, and that's the way I'll have to send it, as I can't seem to convert it perfectly to pdf.
6.
Seeing as it's about three minutes from my house (depending on traffic lights) I'd better be there! I've a jazz gig in Bradford in the evening if anyone wants to sit in. Could possibly accomodate a freindly basschappie (if too drunk to drive home!)
Glad your coming ...I missed the Baildon one, so please bring some of your nice basses again. I'm playing in York that evening ...in case it's of use for a lift to anyone.
7. I like it BUT ... 1) the reality is that 100% of pledges will not convert to paying up ...so an 'overs' target needs to be set (say 110 pledged tenners or whatever you feel is safe). 2) Have you really considered the time it takes to email & chase 60 or so individuals for payment (some will buy more than one ticket), as well as the costs of receiving payment? If this was a commercial thing across any and all items other than just musical instruments (maybe an idea!) then there would probably be an escrow account set up, so pledges were actually returnable payments (returnable if not enough 'tickets' are sold). Good luck anyway!
8. +1 for the humbucker. It's not the only reason, but it boosts your chances with all the other elements.
9.
Might be able to make this one. We'll easily make it there and back in a day and I'll bring what I can
Hope you can make it ...some fab gear you got listed there!
10.
15th - arsebiscuits, think I'm playing that night....
I'm playing that night too ...and I'm organising the bash! Noon till 5 PM. Hope to see you there!
11. Good luck with the sale Dave. I guess you won't be coming to the Yorkshire bash, but if anyone else has one of these that they can bring to it, I (and I dare say a few others) will be very interested in trying one out.
12.
Any of you local to the North East? I'm interested in buying one and I'd like to try one out. I've got a seven string already so I'm part of the way there!
Come down the A1 on Feb 15th, as two members are threatening to bring their sticks to the bash!
13.
It has to be Ear Protection .. ok.. so it's not specifically 'bass' kit.. but how many people spend hundreds maybe thousands of pounds on bass gear yet *still* insist on spending as little as possible on looking after their ears? (Or not spending anything at all on them!)
Here, Here! (or is that Hear, Hear?)
14. I don't mind being ignored by the public, but when it's free ale at the bar for the band - I make damn sure they now I'm one of them!
15. Sorry if this is OT, but I had a listing pulled once, because I said it was being advertised elsewhere. IMHO it is one thing having totalitarian rules that allow this to happen, but quite another thing that it happens without warning. If they had emailed and said, "we have deleted the 'illegal' reference, but you are free to continue, edit or cancel", then fair enough! Rant over. I hope you win at the right price.
16. Can we now have a Wet Basschat T-shirt photo thread? Males excluded.
17.
people who play 6+ string basses in rock bands Spalted maple tops - yes I'd like to have some overpriced crap that looks like OSB put on the top of my bass and I'd like you to charge me one squillion pounds for it.
Funnily enough, I got a spalted maple Spector 6-string in the summer and gigged it with Chainsaw and got more positive feedback in those four gigs from the audience than I have probably had for the last four years. Then this Māori sounding guy hypnotised me and turned it in to a five string Spector What's OSB anyway?
18.
Ahem, duly noted. I think its a nice idea but I think I've mentioned previously that if we modify this off-the-shelf forum software, its more difficult to implement upgrades. The alternative is bespoke software which costs probably more than this site could afford at commercial rates (and then there's the ongoing maintenance needed). If I continued the survey I could offer a range of options and ask how much per month would everyone be prepared to pay for having access to that feature. That would give us an idea of where to invest any income. Alternatively it might just mean that forums aren't really capable of generating much investment without huge numbers of members paying a relatively low cost subscription every month.
A way round the software thing is to create microsites. So, the forum stays as off-the-shelf, but 'new' elements can be linked to seperately constructed web pages.
19. Brummy 'name' bassists? Geezer Butler?
20. After a few takes in the studio last night, I slipped out a pick without mentioning it. The result was the best rythym section take. Although I was playing a funky two-chord thing (in the style of Burlesque by Family) the pick just gave the sound a sharper tidyness to the stoccato. My conclusion is that I think that playing totally on your own, requires a different right hand 'feel' than when being a component part of an overall mix.
21.
we need a thread of people posing/gigging in their BC gear!!
Yeah, s*d the "got mine"s. Post them proud pics!
22. Phil Lynott Me! (black one and cherry SB - both in the 70s)! Lemmy Gallagher & Lyle chappie But hats off to Chris Squire ...he owns that sound IMHO
23. That's a bargain. It's interesting how these don't come up for sale hardly at all at the mo. Most owners will have got past their honeymoon period on them by now, so my conclusion is that most must like 'em. I certainly do!
24.
Me too. Has there ever been a 5-string double bass?
Yep. Commonly found in orchestras, Martin.
25. There's the Rough Beats festival held in Yorkshire in the summer. email Mike at [email protected]
