1.
That's what I thought until I actually had one in my hands and it dawned on me that what you get isn't just 5 paltry extra notes but a whole extra slice of a neck. Now a E root starts on the 5th fret instead of the open and it follows that all the scales down to B occur in the same way with the added bonus of the extra notes on the 5th string - the G string.
+1 And having read some quite sensible posts, I am pleased to see how others, like me, discovered the benefits. And having only a few "extra notes" really isn't what it's about, for me. It means adding a different feel, or putting in a contrasting octave to a pattern and so on. What I'd hate, is if there was to be a perceived inferiority thing about 4-strings. That would be nonsense. Like having low profile tyres and a spoiler makes you a superior car driver . I really think that an instrument should be used to suit the band you are in, regardless of format. In my case, I have one 4-string fretless, and one roundwound 5-string for rock/funk (+ a back-up) and another 5-string with flats for a quiet band. It just helps to have different tools in the toolbox. And, I can't wait for an excuse-cum-funds to get a nice sixer again. But back to Molan's OP. I hope you find what works for you in the band context you are in, and find the tool that fits the groove.
 2. May I suggest you put on 'Topic Description' a warning that at this moment in time, it hasn't arrived? Some of us with excitable dispositions, require our expectations ...a little 'managed'.
 3.
8 minutes? pah your drunk! i say its more like 7mins 30 sec
I'm allowing for en route relief in the bushes!
 4. Let's hope it stops raining and starts sunshining very soon!
 5.
Fab... I'll have a word with the rest of 'em!
And if you've still got that Schroeder that I lust for, that'll be even better!!!!
 6.
Hello! Are Geordies invited?
Definitely! Especially if you bring your harem of Fender Follies.
 7. For those traveling with only carryable gear, it's worth knowing that the venue is only an eight minute walk from Hornbeam Park railway station (Leeds-York line) and just two minutes walk from the 36 bus top (Leeds -Ripon frequent service).
 8. Firstly, IMHO there's a tool for each occasion, and numbers of strings shouldn't be an issue, it's just you use what's needed for the thing you are doing. I've played only 4's until this year (and that's for 35 years) but I dabbled in to six-strings on a low-cost used one, then went for the Spector Euro 6LX that blew me away. I brought it along to a gig and tried it out at the sound check, and then carried on using it as my main bass for several gigs. What surprised me most was how incredibly useful the lower B was for doing 5ths. Then (and the story is too long for this post) I changed it for a Euro 5LX. Going from six to five just seemed to make it so much simpler! So, I now only use fives, because I actually miss the low B whenever I try a four string bass. But I'm anxious not to make an issue of it, as some folks seem to think there's a Them & Us situation. I just don't know why it took me so long to discover the ease & benefits of five strings! But there's no right or wrong on string numbers; getting the groove is all!
 9.
I also recall those wierd Gibsons with a sliding pick up.
I remember now ... Gibson Grabber. What were those Gibson boys thinking about!
 10. Nostalgia. I used to pick them off the wall to try upstairs at Rumbelows in Friar Street, Reading, in the 70s. They were considered to be in the prestige/price bracket of being between a Columbus/Antoria copy and a Fender. I also recall those wierd Gibsons with a sliding pick up.
 11.
Just resurrected "High Road Easy" by Sass Jordan
Cor, I completely forgot that one ...we used to do it about ten years a go!

 15. I find FX are great ...at home. I plug them in when sound-checking at a gig, and when the rest of the band gets going, I realise they get in the way. But hey, we got to have toys eh what?

Just bung me all the details to go on there. and again, good woork!
Thanks Rusty. You have the venue, date, time, it's free entry, bar & food available. Not sure what else to add, except a description of what will happen, which er ...is currently a load of bass players bringing along their gear to show to each other! A link to the forum and, if needs be, an email address to find out more.
 17. I'm thinking of finding something with five strings as well as retro/old looking, now. But have a bump on me, and good luck selling it!

 20. Could this trump the original quote? I found this, minutes a go... "For sale my lovely American Peavey G Bass in stunning custom holoflake green with chrome hardware & beautiful graphite neck as per Modulus/Status bass.I'm informed that the neck is actually made by Modulus or Status." Click here if tempted

 24. Hi, I'd really like a few more votes before fixing the date with the venue. So if you are hoping to come, please do the poll if you haven't already. Once I have the date firmed up, I'll post the venue's details. Ta, B2BM I'll give thee a Yorkshire Bash
 25. I've bought eight items on BC and sold five. Out of those 13 transactions, no one has asked for, or given, feedback. However, I do occasionally cite some of those that I have traded with as 'referees'. So, patently it is not a system that has been adopted fully here. This suggests to me that this is partly a system thing and partly a policy thing. Maybe a tick box needs adding to each trading thread so that regularly automatic sweeps can PM the OP to tick 'feedback received' or 'trade not completed'?
