I can see the romantic attraction of vintage instruments but don't know enough about maintenance to keep one myself. Also it would be interesting to compare it alongside a brand new USA Jazz to feel and hear the difference and see if it justifies 3x the price.

1972 Jazz on Reverb from some shop in the UK I've never heard of. Looks great, costs near 4 grand.

That does look lovely. Not what I was expecting as I've not kept an eye on Chapman at all, maybe I should have!

Badass II Bridge, uncut saddles

In my twenties I wasn't in gigging bands. I sold off a Warwick Steamer LX and Warwick Sweet 15 amp together to pay for a training course my employer wouldn't pay for on my behalf. I often think I could have done more with that bass. Other times it's just the processing through of gear. Buy something, it doesn't do what I need so I sell it for something else. I took ages to decide to sell my MIJ P Bass but haven't regretted it for a minute. I got a good price and invested in a jazz that suits me a hundred times better. I now have an 80s Aria that I'm not sure about keeping so will see how that goes and maybe move it on but not sure I need four basses at all. At the moment I feel guilty about the amount of gear and am selling bits off with no solid plans of spending the money... Yet.

Reccommended sellers for a decent budget Jazz bass neck?
uk_lefty replied to mikem8634's topic in Bass Guitars
Someone mentioned jinwan necks in a recent thread here. Chinese seller on ebay where you can get a neck for 70 quid. I haven't ever held one but there was one or two people with high opinions of them if you do a search. -
Love the Dano double, what a beaut.

The End! “Auditions for The 602...a diary.”
uk_lefty replied to AndyTravis's topic in General Discussion
I love it when there's fantasist out there who think they're the next Mick Jagger/ Jimi Hendrix and they get really shirty with you for not being professional enough while also begging to have an audition... At least you don't have to waste your time meeting this one! -
Did music lessons at school help with your musical life?
uk_lefty replied to Nail Soup's topic in General Discussion
My school music lessons involved a fight to get a shoddy electric keyboard out of a cupboard then we had to magic up the ability to read sheet music and play piano. You shared a keyboard between two and just had to sit there and work it out. Hardly education. One week they asked us to do a rap. That was excruciating. -

Double P pickups... Fender Precision Elites from the 80s, Westone, BC Rich, Warwick buzzard basses... Double P looks awesome to me.

Basslines you struggled to learn then...BOOM!
uk_lefty replied to donslow's topic in General Discussion
Ah, well mine was the intro to Sweet Child O Mine. Not at all complicated, and I play far more complex things, but somehow this eluded me for years. I was blagging it on a dep gig just playing something that kinda fit... Then my boss had a week's holiday so I had some day time to noodle about on bass and using songsterr helped me nail it. I now play it almost every time I pick up my bass just to keep it front of mind. It's silly because it's not a complex line but I think I kept getting frustrated and quitting. -

I've only recently discovered Songsterr where it plays a backing track and moves along the tab at the right tempo. It's really helped me learn some tricky parts that stumped me for ages. -
Harley Bentons new bass range! Heads, combos and cabs!
uk_lefty replied to maidens97's topic in Amps and Cabs
Aha, thanks for that I did suspect it was guitarist gear. It says its full range flat response though... Which I thought meant "takes anything"? Is it "takes anything that sits within its certain frequency range"? -
Leo Quan Badass II Bridge. This has served faithfully on my old jazz bass, and even my precision for a while, absolutely loved it. Some may say high mass bridges don't do anything, I personally disagree, whichever - it has "BADASS BASS" embossed on it and that's good enough for me. Selling because I have ashtrays ready to go on my jazz and the Precision bass has gone. This needs to be used and loved. The saddles are not cut but that was never an issue for me. There are some small Grooves forming where strings have sat in the past, see pictures. Mounting screws included in sale. Postage is possible, contact me.

Harley Bentons new bass range! Heads, combos and cabs!
uk_lefty replied to maidens97's topic in Amps and Cabs
They have a 2x12 powered speaker cab specifically for using with amp modelling fx, wedge shaped. I think it's around £250, saw it advertised yesterday. Wondering if it would be good for bass or not, could be a good multi amp solution. I've now got a guitar multi fx as well as a bass multi, both with good amp modelling though they're older tech than the Helix and other stuff you can get now. I follow Harley Benton on Facebook which was a bad move. Too much GAS...! -
If they did that design in full scale I'd be tempted. It looks great but I just don't see the short scale attraction I'm afraid.

If you wanted to be snotty you could ask them how they spend the 10 quid. Do they re pack it or go to any extra effort or do they just look at it, sigh, then tell Gina in accounts to send you a fine letter and it gets posted as you had packed it? You'd get a cow poop reply but it would allow you some small sense of moral victory. Or you could write saying its my first offence guv, didn't know the rules, have sent loads with you without a problem. That way you might get let off, you might not, but if you don't ask you don't get. I've got round a few parking tickets that way, not 100% of the time though!

Satin neck finish. Just feels right.
