  1. Okay, I understand. Without wishing to be awkward, did the passive Wal Pro's not still include a single passive Wal pickup? My point was regarding Wal pickups and electronics.
  2. For me, as a former Wal owner, it is the pickups and electronics that make them special. Wal instruments ergonomic design and woodwork - although flawlessly executed to the highest standards - are not particularly ground-breaking or extraordinary. In fact, they are a bit marmite! Fabulous basses as they admittedly are, lose the pups and electronics and you completely lose the Wal mojo. I think a scaled back budget Wal would be a serious mistake. Just my tuppence worth.
  3. Just watched this and really enjoyed it. Thanks for the recommendation 😊
  4. I don't doubt it however, it doesn't match my own experience.
  5. I've had a wooden neck on a very expensive handmade bass completely fail back in the 80's ... not cool. That led me to purchasing my first non-truss rod graphite necked bass. Tbh I won't buy any bass without at least graphite rod reinforcement nowadays.
  6. The way they leave the Mexican factory is very hit and miss in my experience. At least you're sorted and now up and running! No tension on the rod is to just invite a bow given that the neck is under string tension.
  7. It all depends on which factory we're talking about. Regarding Fender QC, there's nothing that would surprise me.
  8. Cracking bass and very interesting to see a pared back paintless view of the neck construction. That's also some wild flamed maple! Great project; please update the pics as you progress.
  9. Hope the OP doesn't mind me butting in. These are 90/10 - that is, the neck features a 5 piece laminate (3 x maple + 2 x thru-neck graphite rods). Very, very strong and Uber stable. Mine is a 1990 model, has perfect relief, crystal clear clarity/sustain and no dead spots.
  10. Love this series. Top player, top bloke!
  11. Overrated: Rolling Stones. Just don't get it, never have and I guess I never will. Underrated: Deep Purple (not oft quoted nowadays)
  12. The thing that gets me is that I felt the need to move my favourite bass on last year because I couldn't live with the weight (10.8lbs) anymore ... an Overerwater Progress 5 string. A - I never thought of this solution B - If I had I'd never have thought OW would entertain it. #:-(
  13. This is what the basschat community is all about: a wonderful story, and exemplary craftsmanship and personal service from OW. What a beautiful bass!
  14. Super bass. Wal's are hard to beat. Congratulations!
  15. I absolutely love and hate Rick's in equal measure; gorgeous lines, THAT sound, THAT vibe ... I owned 2 back in the day and I miss them, and am also glad I got rid of them! So confusing!!!
  16. Three examples for me that really stand out: John Entwistle's live Alembic Exploiter with The Who Geddy Lee's Wal Power Windows recording Jimmy Johnson Alembic live with Alan Holdsworth
  17. In 40 years of playing bass (and owning everything from Alembic to Wal) my ACG is the best sounding bass I've owned. Glwts
  18. Absolutely... incredible instruments.
  19. No consolation to the seller but under normal circumstances I'd snap this up however, these are not normal times!
  20. That is very kind of you. Thanks, stay healthy and enjoy 😁
