1. Just realised when buying something tonight from ryancowell25, that my Bongo has been around even more folk than I originally thought! How it's so mint is beyond me. Doesn't even have the obligatory headstock chip. :-) Here's its path... unknown (TB forum) -> garythenuke (EBMM forum Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo, California) -> unknown -perhaps Strontium Dog (Kevin, somewhere UK) -> Playground_Martyr (BC-er) -> ryancowell25 -> cocco (BC-er) -> Robert Manning (BC-er) -> mikegatward (BC-er) -> cloudburst (BC-er) CB
2. Just bought a book "Brave New Bass" off Harry. Now I just need to learn to read. What a great straight up guy. Thanks Harry!! CB
3. It will help with your sale if you amend the title and description to say "Multi Drive" rather than "Metal Drive". That's the one thing you do want to get right in an advert :-) CB
4. It would help with your sale if you said "I am selling my Phil Jones Briefcase" rather than "I sold my Phil Jones Briefcase". Apologies if it is actually sold, but judging from yesterday's bump, seems it's still for sale. CB
5. Wow! How great to see it's still possible to find vintage instruments in this extraordinary condition. This will make someone very lucky! GLWTS CB
6.
When I do a bit of tossing I keep a firm grip on the object.
And presumably not over the OP's gate. :-) CB
7. The bass wasn't tossed* over the gate. We all know the bass wasn't tossed* over the gate. The OP knows the bass wasn't tossed* over the gate. Had the bass been tossed* over the gate, the box in the photo would have looked rather different. * on the assumption that the act of tossing involves the item leaving the hands. CB
8. It would be great if this Bongo was a really nice shade of blue pearl with matching headstock, white scratch plate, rosewood fretboard and lightweight tuners. Due to the use of the term Direct Message as opposed to Personal Message, I'm going to guess the seller is based in Lowestoft. And for those of you who don't like the 5HS, there's always the slim chance this one might actually end up being a 5HH. Purely speculative and I may be wrong of course :-) CB
9. I've had my fair share of Parcelforce over-doing it on the 'force' bit. However, in this case the package which was declared as being "tossed over the gate" had no signs of impact damage and the OP started the thread before even checking this. I reckon the OP has a case of Premature Exaggeration :-) CB
10. Nice - I've a 74 Jazz too (had it since new) and love it. My serial number only about 9k away from yours so I'd imagine yours will be an equally great bass for the lucky buyer. GLWTS - ps: wrong head-shot :-) CB
11. Here's an nice video of the EBMM production process, hosted in the factory by Sterling Ball. Interesting to see how our basses are made, with very apparent care and attention to detail and consistency. CB https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_oXBvr8AhU
12. I didn't think Fiesta Red was a colour option on the Jazz Bass in 1975. CB
13.
@Cloudburst: did you get it?? I am interested in getting the para too...
Yep. Have used the ParaDriver v2 in two situations so far with mixed results. Used it at a small (ie without our drummer and with acoustic guitars) gig with my Steinberger XL2. On listening back the tone was much too distorted and I much preferred previous sessions in the same venue. It may be that the iPhone mic was causing a lot of the distortion but I think I need to find a much more subtle set of settings. Used it (BUT with its foot switch turned off) to record my MM Bongo XLR DI into Logic Pro X via a PreSonus interface. Best recorded bass tone I've ever got. CB
14. As most of us have discovered painfully, different basses suit different situations. And it's not always the bass you expect that does well at any given task. Like many of you, I've struggled to find a bass tone that I'm happy with when recording my band's tracks. And quite by accident, I've discovered a great setup that goes way beyond my wildest dreams in terms of my tonal expectations... Musicman Bongo 4HH -> SansAmp Para Driver (all EQ and Drive turned off, just using as DI) -> XLR -> PreSonus iTwo -> Apple Logic Pro X If you haven't tried a Bongo, please do, if you have the chance. I'm not sure how it sounds so good in this situation - perhaps it has to do with the 18v preamp etc? CB PS: Sorry to be a bit 'gushy' :-)
15. In the time-honoured spirit of the BC marketplace....if this had one less string, I'd be all over it. CB
16. I've just ordered the newish Version 2 of the Para from Sweetwater in the US. Will let you know how I get on with it. CB
17. I've an Aero I can offer as a trade. It's mint. CB
18. I'm in Northern Ireland just now and this seller is only a couple of miles from me. Not sure if there would be anything to be gained by paying him a visit? CB
19. Just received Dan's 3Leaf Groove Regulator. Very well packaged and instantly posted/delivered. Couldn't wish for a smoother transaction. Thanks Dan! CB
20. Have just seen one advertised for £3000 so have decided to hang on to both of mine. :-) CB
21. Here's an "I'd quite like a trade for a blue Rickenbacker 4003 for my 50th birthday on Sat" bump. :-) CB
