I have an arctic white epi t-bird. I look after it and it doesn't have a scratch on it. I know how gutted I'd be if if was damaged like that. I don't lend my insruments out, except for the cheapo squiers which I don't care about, but if I did lend out my t-bird & got it back from a mate in the condition your one came back in I'd expect him to buy me new one and & keep the one he damaged or pay for the gallery to do a proper repair. Asking you to claim on your insurance is ridiculous - he should claim for it on his own insurance if he wants anyone to commit insurance fraud.

Alex[/quote] There's nowhere else to clip it on an NS upright. It does clip to the headstock of my Peavey 5er, but it isn't easy to tune the B properly on that either. Maybe one with a 'bass' mode that can accommodate a low B would give better results.

I have one which I bought to clips handily onto the stand mount of my NS CR5M upright. Its not very good for locking onto the pitch of the B string as I have to put it into chromatic mode - the Bass mode only does E-A-D-G. It gets there in the end, but is slow & frustrating to use as the virtual needle jumps about all over the place. The Planet Waves SOS tuner on the other hand enables me to tune all the strings in seconds visually in seconds, is good for B-E-A-D-G-C and works with my CR5M & ashborys as well as it does with 'normal basses'.

It would look even better if the bass was sunburst I'm really going to have to get a brown tort guard for mine now. Not sure where I'll buy it though...

This thread has made me want a brown tort guard to replace the stock red tort on my 1990 MIJ '62 RI precision.

There is a 30" short scale version available as well which would have been right up my street had it been about a quarter of the asking price.

A few years ago I really fancied an unlined fretless precision, but Fender weren't making them so I put one together from brandoni parts.

Hang on - you didn't mention earlier that it was warped I'll take back what I said earlier. As its warped I think that is better cause for returning it than "it don't blummin' fit!" - packaging removed or not. There's a chance that a warped pickguard would have shrunk as well, which in turn could cause it not to fit.

Difficult. I'm sure you're kicking yourself for not trying it before removing the film. Is the PG within spec for a US PG? If not (for example if it has shrunk), I'd think you have a case for returning it as faulty. I know a standard USA PG would fit my 1990 MIJ 62RI precision, so maybe the shape changed for later ones? Mine is the model with 70s style tuners, but in nickel. However if the spec of a '96 MIJ precision is different to that of a USA precision, I don't know if there's much you can do about it unless they said specifically that it would be right for your particular bass.

I hardly touch my db, but wouldn't be without my NS CR5-M. Even though I tend to take my mustang to most gigs and an Ashbory to jam nights.

I reckon that [b]IF[/b] it is original, it's an '82/83. Headstock just like my '81. No holes in body/pickguard for pickup/bridge covers. Holes for thumbrest, white pickup.

The synth tracks well on my GT6B with my mustang - not that I ever use it in anger though. Are you using a 2 pickup bass. If so try using the neck pickup only & roll off the treble

No contest - get a Japanese Mustang reissue - mine is my no 1 gigging bass. Secondhand ones crop up for around £300 on ebay for the standard colours of white or red, a bit more for the non-export colours which don't come up very often.
