1.
Why can't they get a bloody web site sorted too?
For a site to be worthwhile they'd need to keep it updated regularly as stock moves and they would have to include prices. Not sure if their staff would be up to doing that, but the last time I was in there they didn't even have price tickets on the basses hanging up. Its probably about 'return on investment'. Having a professional web site probably won't affect the number of walk-ins from people who visit Denmark Street to trawl the guitar shops. If they were interested in doing mail order they'd probably be doing it already.
2. The only one I use is the Planet waves bass SOS. I can get my bass in tune in a few seconds unplugged with loads of crash-bang-wallop all around. Best tuner I own (actually I keep losing & refinding them so I have two spares which come in handy) http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/products/25...ss_guitar_tuner I can't actually tune the E string on my ashborys with any other tuner but an S.O.S.
3. 'cause you're not out of order. It sounds like the guitard is a total numpty who doesn't understand the difference between practicing and rehearsing. I record rehearsals & gigs so we all have CDs / MP3s of how we do the songs. Parts are practiced at home, then songs are rehearsed in the studio when everyone gets together.
4. I'd love the have the job of answering the phone for this catering company http://www.randykuntzcatering.com/
5. It sounds like they haven't even looked at it - I'd pick it up and take it to someone that does have a clue. If they ask for any money kick 'em in the nuts. Then again they could be hiring it out or using it for their own gigs.
6. I have a stylophone which Rolf Harris signed and drew a rolfaroo on.
7.
Yep, wack the old scratchplate on and you could achieve £500 upwards for it.
+1 - chuck the broken one in the bin. You probably won't get anything extra with the basslines pup installed, so it might be worthwhile to put the original back in as well & sell the quarter pounder separately
8. It comes in a Ritter gigbag perhaps?
9. The Hawks backing Dylan on the '66 tour "Play ... f**kin'... loud!"
10. beware of imation - with that logo ?
11. I dont like it Maybe I'm making myself look ignorant, but I've never heard of Hadrian Fraud
12. Both are good, but I perferred (& bought) a lovely apline-white epiphone one, but probably because of the more fender-like construction. I'm not a big fan of set-necks as it limits the setting up low action to how low the saddles can go.
13. I built a fretless precision bitzer using a sunburst alder Brandoni body & quartersawn maple neck with unlined ebony board. It was easy to put together and all the bits were within your budget. Although the resale value is probably next to nothing, I think it is easily as good as something a lot more expensive.
14.
...he complained about being tired because it was he first day back to art college after 4 months off.
Its understandable - he's bound to have been knackered. He probably had to draw something earlier.
15. I doubt its a '78 this as I have a cherry sunburst precision like that (bought new in '82 and weighs a ton) and they were only made in '81 & '82 in that colour. The serial number probably suggests '78, but a lot of S8 & S9 serial numbers ended up on basses as late as '81. If there's a date scribbled on the end of the neck I bet it'll indicate that its an '81. A modern Fender US pickguard should fit, but you'll need to drill the extra holes for the pickup cover using the original as a template. Alternatively get a 70s pattern one from WDmusic: http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/product/Precision..._|_Black_PB-403
16. I agree, a new socket should cure it. Best to get a switchcraft one if they make one that's suitable for your bass. Surprised its happened on a USA fender though - I've had this issue with inexpensive basses with cheapo hardware, but not a US fender.
17.
So I was wandering around Brighton today while MrsW was at the Psychic Fair in Hove Town Hall...
No one had written "cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances" across the signs?
18. Why pimp when you can build? This looks like a fun way to spend just over £70 http://www.thomann.de/gb/layla_bassguitar_kit_pstyle.htm
19. I quite fancy building a mcMeat - a DIY clone of the LoveTone meatball.
20. I depends what you want to use it for. As an example I use a Behringer BLE100 bass limiter/enhancer and since I got my first one (which was £20 new) I am no longer seeking my perfect compressor. For a long time I thought I wanted a compressor to even out my volume, and tried every one I could get my hands on and even bought a few, but all along it turns out that this cheap little limiter pedal is exactly the right tool for the job I need it to do, ie to even out my fingerstyle playing so I can play with a light touch and let the amp do all the hard work without getting massive peaks in the sound when I do hit a bit harder. I now have two BLE100s as I scored a spare one on ebay a few days ago for £9 including delivery. I think the original owner may have been disappointed that he couldn't hear what it was doing, but the transparency is one the main things I like about it - it doesn't make the bass sound 'squashed' like some compressors do.
21. Sometimes o5b have so long between rehearsals &/or gigs that often when we do play together it does seem like a reunion.
22.
Didn't that make the bass lean forward, requiring more pressure from your right arm to hold the body upright?
It did tend to lean forwards a bit when the right arm was moved away, but its a very light bass, so just having the right arm in the normal playing position without applying any pressure was enough to put it right. When playing it was remarkably comfortable. It didn't feel like it was trying to push forwards at all & was certainly a great improvement over holding the neck up with the left hand.
23. Epiphone thunderbird - cured by moving the front strap button to the neck heel Daughter's daisy rock heartbreaker (now sold) was even worse for neck dive though - added a strap button to the bottom horn (or should that be bottom bulge) and it balanced beautifully, although looked a bit odd at first. What's this kit of parts? a strap button & a screw?
24. reminds me of an Ashbory - where some people put polyurethane strings on them to replace the silicone rubber ones
