I have Thomastik JF324 flatties on my CIJ reissue mustang. They only come in a floppy light guage so they are very fast & easy to play. They sound perfect - deep and huge. If anything the short scale makes them slightly darker sounding than comparable 34" strings on precison as far as I can tell.

I have a pair of Kent Armstrong jazz lipsticks in my j-retro equipped highway 1 jazz. Great pickups.

the irons from maplins are OK but the crappy lead-free solder they sell doesn't flow. I'm in south london if anyone needs anything melted.

I love daisyrocks - I bought one of these for myself after my daughter refused to let me borrow hers - I was surprised to win it after placing a lowball bid though. She wants to put her purple heartbreaker bass on eBay as well, but I don't think its worth doing for the meagre price they go for at the moment.

I'd check the relief first before diddling with the bridge. Most basses need a truss rod tweak twice a year when the seasons change. I can't remember when I last tweaked my short scales though, but the long scales certainly change with the weather.

Jazz basses including basses insired by jazzes. Give me Precision or mustang any day. Roundwound strings Any Rotosound strings Any music software running on a PC straplocks never found any that work properly except ones from Grolsch bottles or shower hose washers. Pleckies - Nah I won't go there. I'll just say they're not for me and we'll leave it at that.

Prefer less cables so I can pick it up with one hand with headphones & bass plugged in and when I put it down it stays where I put it with the screen & controls facing where I want them to. Maybe it should have an extra 1/8" input for the poor sods using non iPod MP3 players as well. (although iPods only work properly if they're syncing with iTunes on Macs - iTunes on windows is just as annoying to use as anything else on Windows.)

Something that I would definitely want to buy if it existed. I'd like something like this: to fit one of these: With the features of this: But the sounds of this: So a tough battery powered/rechargable ipod dock that holds the iPod securely with headphone & stereo phono outs & also also charges the iPod (if its plugged into the mains) This would enable me to practice the songs I'm learning & mix the backing track with bass amp & fx modelling including a decent fliptop tone into headphones. If someone can make one of these for £100 I'll be first in the queue. What else (bass-related) doesn't exist yet but should?
